When you see such a huge number in one day it becomes pretty hard to see the XB1 doing anything close, especially with the higher price and lack of good will.

Good news indeed. Seems like it will be next to impossible to get one at launch here in europe, I've called every retailer and all Ps4's has been pre-ordered. I only know 1 place that will get in 30 PS4's on launch that you can't pre-order. Going to be a cold night for me it seems.

Hopefully it keeps selling. The last couple of years had me scared that video games as we know them were dying a slow death.

My first instinct was that that was a low number, but after looking at the other launch numbers: good for them.

As a person that's happy that my PS4 seems perfectly fine, I'm happy to hear that Sony managed to have a successful launch.

My inner 360 fan wants Microsoft to have a nice launch as well. RROD aside, I have fond memories of that machine.

Okay, this is more than PS1 or PS2 but how many units did Sony ship for those consoles? Have they ever even shipped a million units on day 1 before? These numbers mean nothing without that information.

I'm in Southern California here in the US and I could totally go to a walmart or a Best Buy and pick one up right now. Yesterday I had to do some shopping and I saw that they both had boxes for sale.

Also this graph is for the first month. The PS4 figure is for the first 24 hours. It is really insane how much they sold and how much Sony could also ship.

The vast majority of people not like you and I who go online and keep up on game console news, still think the Xbone has always-on and crazy DRM. The vast majority of those kind of people are the target consumers of Microsoft's entertainment division, which holds the Xbox department and receives $2 billion in Android patent fees yearly.

I'd just like to see how many units Sony actually shipped, along with these numbers of sale-to-user.

I'd also like to see these honest numbers from Microsoft next week, but I'm not expecting anything but PR bullshit and shipment numbers. Please surprise me, MS.

Why does it mean nothing? The fact that they had the ability to have that many units available at launch and sold them seems like quite an accomplishment. I think they would rather sell a million + and still have some available rather than sell 20% of that number and be able to claim "Oh em gee we sold out".

Interesting to see this though with the few news things I saw lately how with the lack of demand or the newness/cost of it, there's been some people getting mugged or homes broken into as the damn criminals wanted to get their ps4 from someone else.

Soon you guys will have your hands on it too. It'll be interesting to see how well PS4 does in other regions and how those numbers stack up to the X1.

I wonder what is the actual number of defective units out of that 1 million sold. A lot of people were reporting issue with their consoles, way more than "a few isolated cases" would warrant.

It got to the point where I'm kind of nervous about picking mine up at the end of the month as I really dread any sort of refund process.
