Considering that I just caught a shiny weedle out of the blue in my copy of Soul Silver, I wanted to see if any of you have caught any shiny pokemon, barring the obvious red gyarados. I do recall catching a purple drowzee back when I had regular gold, but I don't think I have ever seen one in either Ruby/Sapphire or Diamond/Pearl.

Have you ever caught any Shiny Pokemon?
My memory is hazy, but I remember in one of the versions there was some type of cow pokemon and I came across a shining blue version of it. Unfortunately it was a really low level, so my choice was to either risk attacking it and lowering it's hp for an ultra ball or wasting my master ball on it. I attacked it. I killed it.
In my old version of fire red i caught a diglet that had a blue nose instead of a red one....i at first just thought it was a glitch in the game, but it was pretty awesome.
A green Marill and a Ponyta with a blue flame...the blue flame looked awesome till it evolved and went grey.
Never. I've also never played more than about 7 hours of Pokemon in total, which might have something to do with it. I've never been able to get into the game, unfortunately. I tried, but it really isn't for me.
On second thought I probably shouldn't respond, but I now feel compelled to press reply.
Have a shiny Clamperl in Emerald, used to have a shiny Bellsprout in Leaf Green but somehow lost it somewhere. :S
Have also managed to chain enough with the PokeRadar in Platinum to get 3 shiny Shinx, but by the time you start doing that shinies are so easy to come by they sort of lose all of their appeal. :/
and would anyone have any tips for finding them? I know the PokeRadar is supposed to be good for it in D/P but I don't really know anything else that could help. Is it really just chance?
Shiny Roserade in pearl. At the Safari zone. I am horrible at the Safari Zone. I (figuratively) shit my pants when I saw it. But then I caught it. I still use it in Soul Silver.
Just keep repels off and go. Each time you run into a Pokemon, 1 in 8192 chance of it being shiny." and would anyone have any tips for finding them? I know the PokeRadar is supposed to be good for it in D/P but I don't really know anything else that could help. Is it really just chance? "
For Pokeradar, there are tutorials around the web, but basically you want to use a repel, then use the radar and see which bits of grass in a patch rustle (and make sure you pay attention to the way it rustles, too). Run into a pokemon and you'll begin a chain. Each time you run into these Pokemon, make sure you kill them. You then need to run around the grass enough with the repels to recharge the radar before using it again and trying to walk into the same type of grass patch to get another Pokemon of the same type. After you get to a chain of 40, just keep running around the grass and resetting the radar until you see a patch of grass that sparkles, then go into that patch and you'll find your shiny.
There's also a new method that raises your chances which involves breeding. Basically if you breed two Pokemon caught in different regions (one Japanese, one English for example), you'll have the chances of a shiny hatching from the egg quadrupled if I recall correctly. I don't think this method's as easy as chaining with the radar but it's still viable.
I still have yet to catch or even see one. It's ridiculous. I've played every game that's come out, and I put over 100 hours into Emerald. I don't think I'll ever see one. When I was playing Diamond I ran into the blue version of Snellos and thought I finally caught a shiny. I was so happy that day, and then I came home and found out there is two versions of that Pokemon. What a cruel joke.
" Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but a shiny pokemon is just a pokemon with a different color scheme? "Yep. when you find it, there's a crazy sparkle that goes over them (along with the different colour) so you know there'ssomething going on. See- Red Gyarados, most people's only encounter with one.
nope. after all the ridiculous amount of hours i have put in each pokemon game.. still none. (each one has at least 200 hours..) red garidos but that doesnt count..
I think I've run into a total of 2 Shinys in my lifetime, I think. I remember the first one was a golden Hoothoot, I didn't even know about shinys then. The worst thing was that I couldn't even catch it since I was at the very beginning of the game and didn't have any Pokeballs. >_<
I think I accidentally killed the other one, it might have been a Stantler.
