PopCap Games, Inc. is a casual game developer and publisher, located in Seattle, Washington, United States. The company was founded by John Vechey, Brian Fiete, and Jason Kapalka in 2000. Their first game was Bejeweled, which has sold 50 million units and has been downloaded 350 million times worldwide.
Most PopCap games can be played for free in a web browser, with downloadable deluxe versions available. The games can be found on PopCap's official website, as well as other sites such as Yahoo! Games, Shockwave.com, and Microsoft Gaming Zone. Some of the games have also been released on platforms such as cellphones, iPods, Microsoft's Xbox consoles and Sony's Playstation 3 console.
PopCap was initially known as Sexy Action Cool (based on a Seattle Metro bus ad for the movie Desperado).
It was later announced by EA, on July 12th, 2011, that they would acquire PopCap Games for $750 million and $100 million in stock options. Once the deal goes through, PopCap will be part of the EA Interactive department.
