"  It seems as tough they try to defend "big" Business. For example I see people on many boards defending DLC practices- such as DLC Maps released a week after the game.Defending Sony for removing the other OSDefending MS for giving them a 3 year warranty on RROD's ( sure it was nice but when the Warranties up that's it you're done for)Defending Nintendo for abandoning the core games and producing Wii"titles" (Wii Fit, Wii Music etc.)Defending a lot of bad business practices like DRM and a crapload of other things. What is wrong with today's gamer? It seems like they are to busy kissing the companies ass and adoring them for making more money. But keep in mind the more money a company makes the worst they become. I mean look at nintendo.... flithy rich but they forgot about the core gamers! A lot of the stuff being done is for the benefit of the companies who pretty much like to screw over the gamer as of late. I kind of miss last gen (the second golden age of gaming) Stuff was a tad bit simpler but companies are screwing over almost everyone as of late.... I just can't fathom how people can just defend them. I'm sorry but a selfish consumer is better then one who bends over and accepts the rape. Why? Because the consumer holds more power then the company... With that being said gaming is in a sad state of political affairs that harm the gamer more then benefit.  "

People like you who are overly nostalgic and cynical.

Which is honestly not much to complain about because this is nothing new, just aggravated by proliferation of the internet which is comes with the territory I guess.

The only other problem with "kids these days" is I'm not sure how dedicated they are to knowing the medium and sticking to it as it moves forward.  There will always be people that do but how many is the question.  Not knowing the answer is I guess an issue.

" No, since im a hiphopper and they would NEVER talk about hiphop on a Whiskey Media music site. "

I already go to Okayplayer.com for some pretty awesome reviews for albums that conform to what I would be interested.  That is hip-hop and likewise music that it has sampled.

I think we need to make sure Screened and Tested go off without a hitch before music enters.  Everyone who says it wouldn't work is being a hypocrite because how is "movies" not too general?  Hell even video games are huge but generally the guys behind it should have the judgment to know what is relevant to their tastes and generally the fanbase.  I would agree that genre-wise it would require a bigger staff but the wiki would be really helpful to have.  I would fully support another reasonable look at music but I only worry for how much focus is placed on which genre.  Solve that and you're golden.

" After I read the initial paragraph about linear shooter not giving the player enough motivation to use all the other weapons at your disposal, I just thought, "What about Bioshock? Hello?"  It's a mostly linear, multiplatform game that allows for a variety of gameplay paces and styles. With all the stuff you can pull, headshots are probably the most boring way to play it, and they don't make the game that much easier either. "
Bioshock is a prime example of what Jeff's talking about.  The basic wrench plus electroshock is probably the most effective weapon in the game, incentivizing players to just use that. "
I think that's just a very stubborn philosophy to playing a game.  I would personally get sick of the same old thing really quick and change up my playstyle at least slightly.  If the alternatives are not practically effective, I can see what Jeff is saying but  I was skeptical when Jeff said he kept using Mark and Execute in Splinter Cell and Vinny never used that throughout the game.  I can understand what he's saying but the examples he has cited in the past sound exactly like someone not making it fun for themselves.  I definitely agree with Jeff but he's only half right in my opinion.

You don't get better than Michael saying "Mr. Francis York Morgan..."   Fuck that other guy's name.

And dude hella Twin Peaks.  Way too much.

It's creepy seeing a moving game look so different though from the product we see each day.

Writing in games.  Frankly it's just going to take a while before the idea that writing for a game is different than anything else sets in.  Too many times writers are brought in from somewhere else and pretty given the job of writing the game...without game writing experience.  This is especially true of humor in games.

Lack of options.  Nothing pisses me off more than a lack of options in a game, especially for the PC.  A lack of options leaves out people who speak a different language, have an auditory or visual disability (more so color-blindness), parents who want more content control in their games etc.  Games these days are really great except when you aren't given the options you feel you should.

This goes for game modes as well as say allowing you to have all the characters in a fighting game unlocked or wanting to unlock them manually.

Tutorials need to be better.  I'm talking about who the tutorial is for because frankly no one knows the answer.  Is it for first time gamers?  Do you make one for them?  New to the genre?  Or people who've played the genre but the specific mechanics need some teaching?  It's a confused question that is probably the last thing games need to solve besides making sure we teach the newer generation of video game players where they come from and how to appreciate games.

Honestly do any of you actually enjoy video games?  Amidst the legitimate excuses of bugs, lack of time, and actually bad game design, the word "boring" comes up more often than I can count.  Fuck people get it together.

Daikatana

There's only so much a man can put up with.  This is truly a game I just was incapable of getting through.  Arrived to the Roman/Greek levels and just couldn't take it anymore.

Superman 64

I tried so many times with this one.  Usually playing the first few levels maybe, then skipping into later ones.  I was so stupid back then that I kept trying.  Even with cheat codes full on, could not beat the game.  Besides it descended from Satan's asshole of bad games.

Hexen/Hexen II

Finished the original Heretic games and although really hard it was still able to be finished within reason.  Hexen and it's sequel...I've never been so lost in tedium.  Back tracking across whole worlds and sections to get an item that opens a third part which then opens a fourth and then you have to back to the second...ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unreal Tournament III

I am still a hardcore fan but that single-player is so difficult and tedious it sucks the fun from playing.  Luckily Greed is a brilliant mode and did sink some time into the last of that generation of Unreal Tournament games.
