Never before have I wanted to delve into a character's past more. Kaim was a phenomenal main character, mainly because something happened to him that is absent in a lot of video-games these days: character development. Yes, he actually changed from start to finish. At first, he's just this awesome badass, who's immortal, takes on entire army's, and survives giant meteors. So he's cool, but generic. But wait a minute, is that emotion he's showing? As the story unfolds, Kaim's true nature starts to show and it is only reinforced by the beautiful dream sequences. Now isn't that strange? A badass main character who actually shows emotion and is generally interesting? (Not to mention has a great voice actor) The thing is, this kind of thing shouldn't be "Strange" in the video-game world, it should be a necessity. Character development is more important than a good story most of the time, as the characters can carry a game; Lost Odyssey is a perfect example of just that.

Honestly, the only reason Zidane is so high is because he is so different from his VII and VIII counterparts. After playing as these boring characters for the last two installments, it was a relief to see a main character that had so much charisma and had a surprisingly interesting back story.
