I had some good fun playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions, so I'm assuming that anybody who really likes the Persona series will give this game a go this year too. Therefore, I would call TMS a must-play game in that regard. As it is, I also do enjoy me some Fire Emblem every once in a while.

I remember there being a boss battle that seemed impossible, and so the game wasn't fun. Then I realized that I had to level up somewhere else outside the main story, and then come back to the boss battle, to move on. Looking back on that now I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that, but at least now I've learned from it! So there's that. I've read that you can finish the Main Story in around 17 hours, so your 25 sounds like you did some extra stuff and the story. Which is cool. I've actually put on my list to start (and finish) Mass Effect 2 by the end of the year, and I think I'll see if I can finish the main story in around 24-25 hours. I'm at this point in my life where I have to chart how many hours a day I want to play a game so I can A) track my progress (because that's part of the fun), and B) have motivation to finish a game. I have a hard time finishing a game now and that disturbs me. So I made a spreadsheet!

Anyway, I think you will like ME2 a lot, and from what I've played in the past, it was a great time. I just need to see the ending.

I have a few I'd like to add:

I bought a Wii so I could play Guitar Hero: Metallica in my room.

I pretend I'm good at fighting games when I'm really not.

I put in over 150 hours into Dragon Age Inquisition and still never saw the ending.

I played World of Warcraft for about 3 years and made 2 friends.

It was easier for me to set time during the calendar year and make that time a priority not to buy any games for myself to play, new or used. For example, I tried Jan-June this year, and I got to around the 20 something of May. So that worked for me. Good luck on your backlog!

Also, it helps if you have an accountability partner, someone who does the same thing as you. Can you find other here on GB doing the same thing? If so, make a group about it and stay connected.

Yes, I could play retro games for a year. I'd go with the games that I already like from the NES, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD days of my past, though.

The Wii U for me was the first console that I was able to play among the current generation of home consoles, so my comparison lacks the obvious evidence that others have. My appreciation for the Wii U is based on the fun gameplay that I've had. This was the first time I've owned a Mario Kart game. I was also deeply interested to try Hyrule Warriors because I really dig hack and slash style of games. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was a challenge for me, a challenge that I took on when in the past I would have looked over the game. I tried out how amiibos work and had fun with that too. I think I have 3 amiibos I've trained up in Smash 4.

I've also purchased Metroid Fusion and Fire Emblem on the GBA and tried those games for the first time. Having an easy to use eShop that offers these games is convenient. The next one that I'm looking at purchasing is Ninja Gaiden III from the NES. The Miiverse experience for me has been friendly, and I'm always impressed at the drawings that others like to share. My latest enjoyment has come from Tokyo Mirage Sessions, a game I hope other Wii U owners check out some time too. All in all, it's been a great console for me. I will probably pick up Paper Mario Color Splash in October and maybe the new Shantae game in September.

As somebody who has enjoyed each Monster Hunter experience much more as time has gone on, I'd say that going with Generations would be a good way to go. The key to understanding for me was spending time with collecting materials and crafting weapons and armor over a long period of time. Once I began to get into that kind of game, I really started to enjoy Monster Hunter more. I haven't tried the multiplayer stuff yet in Generations, but I have really enjoyed the solo experience. Not all of the gathering missions are the same, as some require you to collect a certain amount while others just say 'explore, collect whatever you want, then come back when you're done' kind of thing. There is so much choice in Generations when it comes to weapons, too, that you'll have a blast trying them out.

In my time with Pokemon X, I found that it was much easier on me to try out different ones as I caught them, and then build a team that worked on progressing the story along. I felt like if I tried to catch every one it would drive me crazy and I would not want to play anymore. I don't want that to happen for Sun/Moon so I'm not going to approach it as a completionist and or as a trainer for every Pokemon, but rather just pick out my favorites and enjoy the adventure.

I started to play yesterday and I just upgraded the Sword and Shield to level 2, bought two combo books, and hired a felyne named ROOT (not a bad default name). I'm still trying to figure out stuff and get started, so I just wanted to say thanks for this thread and the comments so far.

Yoshi's New Island has been the game of choice lately on the 3DS while I've been away from home.
