I didn't get a chance to play many of the titles others here have enjoyed from the early 2016 release schedule, but I have to say that Tokyo Mirage Sessions has really been a lot of fun to play, and so far it's one of my most favorite Wii U games too. Tomorrow I'm intending to pick up the new Monster Hunter game and hope to dive into that and finish up Tokyo Mirage Sessions so I can be ready to enjoy Dragon Quest VII upon release date in September.

This is news that I didn't expect to hear about today. I view the hardware not as competition to the eShop but rather a way to get more interest in the eShop. If you think about it, the best way to generate excitement is provide a way for more players to engage with the games. So why not bridge another gap between 1980's Nintendo and the HDMI world of today? I really like my Wii U and the eShop is filled with interesting games that I want to play. What Nintendo is doing here is really smart because it's affordable, it's filled with timeless classics, and it's portable (to a degree). It's not impossible to see this as a hot ticket item for the Christmas rush this year, and to see the overall reach of Nintendo to gain as 2017 comes upon us and more talk focuses on the NX and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

@sloppydetective: I tried the 6 month approach because I knew I couldn't go a full year without buying games for myself. I made it about 5 1/2 months, so I'm proud of that. :)

Thanks also for mentioning the Severed game, as I didn't know anything about it. I'll look for it when it comes out on Wii U during the summer.

When I was 14, I was on a bus trip to play a basketball game for school, and I packed in my bag a mix-tape of ACDC songs. I sat down, and then looked at my bag and stared...I could not get enough courage to put on my headphones when nobody around me did so. Then a fellow teammate sat down in the seat behind me, turned on his headphones, and all of a sudden, everyone could hear ACDC's song 'Big Gun' because he had his headphones on full blast! I laughed at my insecurity for a good while. I was a teenager, though, so I still couldn't get the courage to put my own headphones on, but it did make me think differently about that kind of thing.

When it comes to games, I'll bring my 3DS when I'm waiting at the doctor's office or the dentist and on airplanes when I'm traveling. I almost played Mega Man 1 to completion on the 3DS on my round trip adventures a couple of years ago. The thing that I do is I bring some headphones with me so that the sound doesn't directly disturb my neighbors when I'm traveling, and I see people all the time doing something with electronics. On one planeflight, the guy in the seat next to me was watching the HD streaming of a golf tournament, and I thought that was awesome, because I got the impression he didn't care one iota what others thought about it.

CIV 5 - 5/5: I wanted something low-key after work so I could get a nap in before my boyfriend got home. Started at ~7ish and played till he got home at midnight. I was Babylon and made BFFs with Korea which has been incredibly helpful. The Dutch tried to take me out but I got William to surrender and give me two cities. I have 8 cities and 23 happiness and about 80 gold/turn. I'm usually never this successful with that game. I couldn't stop taking more turns. I'm thinking about how to take my continent back from Carthage.

Also, TMS#FE - 4/5: Easy just relax and play game that's lighthearted fun and I enjoy the battle system. Story's not grabbing me or keeping me at the edge of my seat but at least it's entertaining and I have something for my WiiU. Wish there was more variation in side-quest stuff but hey, I'm having a pretty damn good time with it and that's what matters (to me).

Count me in too for Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, as I find the battle system to be really enjoyable. I think for me the game is 5/5 because I want to spend more time playing it and see how the characters develop.

I'm sorry to admit that I hadn't checked in with your blog until the 2013 one, but the games here on your 2014 are more of the ones that I've played. For example, Hyrule Warriors and Kirby: Triple Deluxe are some of my favorite games that I've ever played. Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is a game that I'm currently playing on co-op and still have fun with. I think your blog series is a nice way of celebrating games and remembering them, and I like the fact that you've taken the time to write up a post to talk about them.

Which brings me to a question about 2014. I had a lot of fun playing Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker that came out in December 2014. There's a nice surprise for folks who own the game and Super Mario 3D World. I've also really enjoyed Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, another title from 2014. Have you tried these titles by chance? I would like to give Donkey Kong another go soon.

These days I'm finding that I do play video games more often than I used to. When I was in graduate school, I had to spend so much time reading and writing that when I got done with these activities, I'd just want to watch someone else play games, either at home, an LP on Youtube, or here on Giant Bomb with the Quick Looks. I didn't want to spend a lot of brain power playing a game. Now that I've graduated, I find that I do play video games once again. For example, I hit the 50 hour mark in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE and I think I'll probably hit the 100 hour mark before I get done playing. I have had times where I've wanted to watch back to back Quick Looks as well, but that doesn't happen very often for me.

Sensitivity to violence no matter what you're watching is indicative that your threshold for violence is going down, and now you're reaching your limit faster. Being desensitized to violence is part of culture, but I do think as we grow older, it's natural for us to recognize something is affecting us more than it used to. I want to include that I, too, have become more sensitive to violence, enough to where I rarely watch a rated R movie anymore. I used to watch rated R movies a lot more, but not as much these days. I have also played a lot of M rated games, too, but I'm slowing down in my consumption of them. I think it's natural to change in this way and that the change is handled differently for people.

One of the most important lessons I've learned from video games is teamwork. Another lesson is that games inspire creativity in other people, driving the industry forward.
