  • I really can’t say anything about this game that hasn’t already been addressed ad nauseum. Not only is it my favorite game of 2017, but it might be my favourite game of all time. The sense of scale in both map size and verticality is staggering and really helps add to the wanderlust when exploring a long-ruined Hyrule. The story is superfluous and the voice acting is terrible, but those factors don’t hinder the overall game and the sense of accomplishment when scaling a large mountain, discovering a heart shaped pond, or finding one of a billion Koroks (and dropping rocks on their heads).

Much has been made of the supposed lack of typical Zelda music, but I think that BOTW’s score helps immerse the player with subtle piano riffs that compliment the exploration (and the Goron City music is fantastic). It still blows me away that Nintendo made something so removed from the typical Zelda mold and still nailed the core elements of the series, and moved the entire open world genre forward in some breathtaking ways.

  • Fighting games often serve as a palate cleanser. They represent an escape from the hegemony of open world design and I believe that we all need that. Not only does Tekken 7 look gorgeous, but it also offers up a meaningful story that might be the best in a fighting game yet (I know that is a small pool to begin with). Additionally, I needed some laughs in the hellscape that was 2017 and Tekken 7 delivered with some of the funniest moments I have ever witnessed in a game (King just needs money to renovate his orphanage, ok?).

  • This game is good and I love being able to play it on my Xbox One.

  • Kill the Pope; legitimize your bastards; use cheat codes.

  • The upgrades make the replay loop here. I really can’t say how satisfying it is to do a third run and just crush fools. Infinite rocket launcher both breaks and makes the game. It is the Holy Grail.

  • So is the opening to this game a homage to Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Really excited that this game is going to get a second life on the Switch because everyone should try, or at least see, this game. RIP Wii U and long live Bayonetta’s hair suit.

  • His name is BT and he is my friend. I loved Advanced Warfare and Titanfall 2 plays into that frenetic style of gameplay. The fact that I cared about my relationship with a giant robot is really a testament to the storytelling here. Also, SERE Kit.

  • This game is too hard...there, I said it. The difficulty, however, doesn’t take away from the fact that I am obsessed with beating the Devil. It is cliche to say at this point, but even my girlfriend loved watching me play this game because the art is just that good. Here’s to hoping I can beat this thing in 2018. Porkrind!!!

  • So, lots of the surprises were known to me thanks to our friends at Giant Bomb, but damn, this game is a blast to play. I was debating whether or not to put this on my list, but the Christmas themed mission where you hunt down Harry and Marv from Home Alone sealed the deal.

  • I still have no idea what the dragon in your base does besides eating all my fruit and vegetables. This game was a lot of fun and probably represents the last time a 3DS game will be on my top 10.
