DEVELOPER DIARY: User Moderation System

Just a heads up that we're going to be launching a new User Moderation System (we're calling it the Karma System) sometime this week. Basically we needed a better, more efficient way for offensive content to be flagged and sent to the moderators.


This system will be outlined in more detail when we launch, but it will essentially allow each user to flag offensive content found on the site (starting with the Forums and moving on to Comments, Reviews and possibly PMs).

More details to come, but here are some screenshots so you guys can see what we're working towards:

Will the mods be able to tell WHO flagged a comment? We'll need to know so we can bash whoever flagged something unnecessarily.

Yes, there will be a full fledged mod queue that tells them who flagged the item, how many times its been flagged, and the original reporter of the flagged content. 

Also, each time you flag an item, you lose a karma point yourself, and after you get past a certain threshold you cannot flag any more content until the next day (when you get your points back). This will all be explained in more detail as the system gets closer to launch - thanks for your interest :)

 I know more details about this system than Coonce has explained here, but all I will say is when it gets added you guys will love it. No longer will you have to worry about PMing us when someone deposits their porn collection on the forums. This new system will be slick and awesome. Nuff said!

Some great work from Coonce and Snide has gone into this. Mods and users alike will be psyched to see it put in place!

And will karma work like other sites, where it adds up into a certain score or something (I'd be -5, most likely (which would be good)).

I trust users less than I trust moderators, and I trust moderators about as far as they can walk after a hard knee in the crotch, which isn't very far at all. Although I don't support hitting people in the crotch. No man should. Jesus it hurts.

If the engi's can make this work and I can still use the F word in fun ways, I'm all for this =D

Well I'd assume any swear words that are directed towards another user, or used in an excessive amount.
