@KaosAngel: Portal 2 takes place almost 200 years after the Half-Life 2 games. For all we know, most of humanity was wiped out (and only those in bunker-like buildings survived) and the Combine left.
Already had Trine, knew nothing about the other two games, didn't really care about the unreleased stuff. Played five bucks, and glad I did. The Shadowgrounds games are pretty fun!
I'd say being a gamer is all in the mindset. Do you consider gaming an important part of your life? Then yes, you are a gamer. Is it just a social thing that you do, like playing Rock Band or Call of Duty with your friends? Then no. You may play games, but you are not necessarily a gamer.
As for a real gamer? That's just a term elitist douchebags use to make them feel better about themselves.
@Twitchey: Just learning the basics, it wasn't that difficult at all. The software itself is super complicated, and there are still a ton of things I haven't learned to do yet (I'm just wrapping up my first year), but just the things that you need to know in order to simply animate, once you learn what everything does, it's not that difficult at all.
Now making your animation look good, that's the real trick. ;)
I am using Maya, however from my understanding, for the most part, the software is fairly similar, so you shouldn't have too hard a time getting the hang of it.
