I.. don't think you've been on the streets of London recently. There's not nearly enough bass and/or posturing for that.

Isn't that just Snide? I think I remember someone saying he was the designer in the crowd.

I don't think Resistance 1 was a very good game, so.. I find it difficult to believe that Resistance 2 will be a good game, let alone as good as gears 1, let alone as good as gears 2. That's my take on things, anyway. Gears 1 was a phenomenon around these parts when it was released, I played it through probably 5 times with various friends, a number of those on the hardest difficulty, they really got it right. The multiplayer was hot for a month or two, too. Resistance always felt loose and weak by comparison. I think the biggest sin was how terrible the weapons felt. I guess that's all fixable for Resistance 2, but I don't see them pulling it off. That E3 demonstration really nailed home to me how hacked together the game feels.

My thoughts are that it is stupid as hell in the PS3 controller already, it's still not yet proven itself to me even on the Wii, and it will be just as stupid on the 360.

So far my favourite has probably been the excellent FF4 remake. I've also sunk over 80 hours into Final Fantasy Tactics A2. TWEWY is a pretty excellent evolution on the stagnant JRPG genre, too. The RPGs i'm most looking forward to this year is probably the Chrono Trigger remake, but I'm also interested in Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days and Sigma Harmonics. Dragon Quest 4 is getting a release too, which is regarded as one of the best games of the DQ series. Bioware are releasing a new RPG soon, which is pretty exciting since they're pretty much kings of the western RPG these days. That game has had some really positive previews. If we're just talking games already out this year though, I guess FFCC: Ring of Fates is worth mentioning since if you get together with some friends that game has some amazing co-op. FFXII:Revenant Wings is also pretty good.

It's actually pretty surprising how people are split on the different games in the franchise.
Yes! Fans of the series are all over the place on what they consider the peaks and troughs of the franchise. It's pretty tough to predict how someone new to it is going to feel about the games. And for the record, I don't think I can name my favourite-- Twin snakes, MGS3 and MGS4 are three of the greatest games made in my opinion. The only one from the main series I don't think I'll ever replay is 2, though I don't really consider it a bad game.

I was excited for Braid and Castle Crashers until I heard the prices. Sorry, but I'm not paying more than 800 points for either title, on the principle that I'm only likely to play these XBLA games as casual pick up and play endeavors. I bought Geometry Wars 2 though, and I can't recommend it enough. It defines how I feel XBLA titles should be like, in my mind. I don't know much about Galaga, and I'll be buying Bionic Commando on PSN, so I guess Geometry Wars 2 wins my vote be default.

This is just how I feel about the game. Others feel differently and that's fine. I think he should take everyone's opinion and make his own decision.
Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion and I can see where you're coming from, I just get really narked when people try to put words in my mouth by presumptuously speaking for all true fans. We're more divided than you realise on this topic.

That's what I was afraid of.

It makes me laugh that you ignore two or three people sharing their opinion that you'll be fine playing Twin Snakes first, and when the first to suggest the PSX version comes along that's when you start weighing in with the "damn, really? aw shucks". Twin Snakes is much more playable and fits better with the series in retrospect. The PSX version was brilliant at the time but it hasn't aged well. I'm as big an MGS fan as you can get, but the people who say you have to play the PSX version first are just clinging to some worthless emotional weight that really doesn't accurately reflect the real world; you're much more likely to enjoy the modernised game.

Ignore Dissolve he doesn't know what he's talking about and it pains me that he presumes to speak for all "real" MGS fans.
