Epic Mickey had flaws, but most of them were 100% because of the Wii. (bad camera controls, small environments, etc) and if you're a Disney fan, there was really a lot to love. I'm pretty excited about this one.
Considering the Wii had Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, I fail to see how the console was responsible for Epic Mickey being a bad platformer. The technical limitations of the system had nothing to do with the quality of the game.
Nintendo have slightly more insight into how to develop for their own console. Perhaps the control issue was partly the fault of the developers, but if it were just played on a standard controller, there wouldn't have been a problem.
The problem with the environments was completely because of the Wii though. Even just looking at the artwork, you can tell they wanted the game to be huge and the idea of being able to explore a twisted version of Disney World was super appealing for me. But because of the technical limitations, the areas are all very small, there's no detail and no sense of exploration or wonder. On the 360 or PS3, that wouldn't have been a problem.
Considering that SMG 1 & 2 are probably the best in the genre, to have made Epic Mickey like the way they did is not something you can blame on the Wii really. Like goddamn, that felt like a mid-life PS2 platformer for all the wrong reasons. I wanted to like it so bad.
Anyway, a little off what they're doing with the sequel, but I wish Warren Spector would go ahead and make something I could get interested in.
