There sure are a LOT of words in this game's title. Liking the look of the animation though - something about it reminds me of the old-school Capcom Dungeons and Dragons arcade games! (Which could make sense, depending on who left Capcom to form Inti Creates.)
When was the last time they were positive about something?
Yesterday. Possibly even a few hours or a few minutes ago. Are you keeping score?
(Also, a lot of confirmation bias here - slightly-negative impressions probably wouldn't bother y'all so much if you didn't visit Giant Bomb with the mindset of, "Ugh, I'll probably find something negative on the website".) Like others said, if the content of a website consistently annoys you to the point that you're going to complain about it publically, maybe you shouldn't visit that website. It'll make you feel better, anyway.
If the game of Deception had something written into the rules like, "The objective of
the players is to single out a specific demographic of the population and brutality and systematically suppress all expression of dissent", then yes, that would be tone-deaf.
I'd love to find another game that acted as a spiritual successor to the Capcom Arcade Dungeons and Dragons games, and hoped that this would scratch the itch, but MAN the art-style is just so off-putting to me.
It's not just the "boobs that compose 3/4s of the entire female body", either (although that's definitely not a design decision that I find attractive) -- the booby-harpy looks like someone chopped the head off a parrot and glued the upper torso of a woman to the neck-stump, the men all look as if they have SEVERE microcephaly, and the general animation style looks like paper-dolls on static matte paintings.
That said, by no means am I saying people aren't allowed to enjoy this game. There's just something about its overall feel that aggressively rubs me the wrong way. :b
@broshmosh: Although you're correct on the pronunciation of "Moai", I'm going to keep the cycle-of-correction going and point out that the Inca people did NOT construct Moai statues; the Polynesian peoples of Easter Island did (specifically, the Rapa Nui.)
The Giant Golden Head in-game is based off the Olmec civilization's iconic carved heads from Central America (hence, the boss' name of "Olmec".)
Anyway, congrats Rorie! I still haven't even reached Hell. :(
