@jouseldelka: Quicksaves allow you to trial and error your way through a game far too easily. Mess up? Great, doesn't matter as you can reload with all your previous progress intact. No consequences, no challenge. Now of course, you don't have to quicksave at every turn but players will exploit that system as much as their grubby little hands can. I'd rather play an easy game with no checkpointing than play a hard game with quicksaving enabled because it'll make me think twice about taking any risks. I certainly don't enjoy having to start at the beginning of a level, but those are the inherent risks you have to accept. End the savescumming.

Ahhh Ahhh AHHH AHHHH GURL GAMERS RIGHT??? LOL

Stop the labels. Playing video games is a damn hobby not an identity. Doesn't matter if you're a girl or a guy stop calling yourself a media engineered label. Rant over.

Now who's up for some FOOTBALLS? Go Aggies!

The joke is distasteful, yes, but you didn't have to link your blog to the forums about it.

Why does this fucking matter? No, I'm curious. Who fucking cares what some actress has to say about her character? These are not real issues.

This is how it all starts.

So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends

Not with a bang but a whimper.

First they came for the designs,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a designer.

Then they came for the users,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a user.

Then they came for the wiki,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a wiki.

Then they came for me,

and there was no one left to speak for me.

Nay, rejoice! The War at long has been settled. We are victorious in this long fought struggle. The heretics at Gamespot have submitted to our layout style! Now our forces no longer remain divided against each other. Onwards brothers, resume our conquer of the IGN! Glory to the CBSi Empire!

@mariachimacabre: Aside from Leigh Alexander, Jessica Chobot, and Olivia Munn, I can't think of any other female who works in the games media. I'm sure plenty do, especially in PR, but they haven't made themselves well known. So I think it's understandable the curiosity people exhibit when they see a new face, man or woman. You see a lot of comments going "Who is that guy?" or "Who's the one on the far left with the bald head?" in the chat as well.

I honestly don't understand how id is still in business. They've been sporadically releasing games over the last decade and almost of them have been rereleases banking on their good name. RAGE was a shallow, aimless, albeit well-produced, first-person shooter that lacked serious direction and understanding of its own world. It's one of the few games that could benefit greatly from a sequel, but as of now it doesn't seem like id is working on one. Though I could be wrong...

Bethesda should have them pumping out games left and right and stop aiming for the always overambitious, underwhelming projects that they seemed to get themselves involved in with RAGE. Or maybe fold the talent into Bethesda and move on.

Great article. I don't understand where the sexualization part comes in (frankly some of your conclusions sound ridiculous), but I think your main point comes off wonderfully.

Crystal Dynamic's latest take on Tomb Raider series tries to present Lara and the Tomb Raider fiction more maturely, but it ends up falling flat on its face. Whether you agree with it or not, Tomb Raider has garnished a notorious negative label by media and feminists alike. As evident by its marketing, this latest game plays right off that narrative by doing the exactly opposite. Opting instead for a progressive audience and ditching its old prepubescent one, even roping in a female writer just for them. This new Lara is supposed to have character instead of boobs and to be more of accessible and human-like protagonist. But it seems Crystal Dynamics wanted to stay true to the Tomb Raider name by keeping everything else. Maybe that planned it that way along and just pandered to political correctness to rope in gullible RPS readers? Or you can call me cynical.
