I have not played any of these games, but they look interesting. I was thinking of trying the series, but at this point I have no idea where to start. There's just so many of them, and I don't know how if at all they are connected. I think the "rebirth" ones are remakes? So I put it to the Hyperdimension Neptunia fans out there: which one do I start with, and where do I go from there?

@riostarwind:Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking about the Danganronpa games. I remember Patrick really liked the first one a lot.

I don't know much about the Disgaea games. A good strategy game with humor sounds awesome! Should I play Disgaea 3 first, or can I just jump into 4? Are they connected by narrative?

I recently bought a Vita on a whim, because there was a great Ebay deal. I didn't put a lot of thought into it, so I really don't know what games are out there that I should buy. A little info on what I like:

  • I enjoy RPGs of both the Western and Japanese persuasion.
  • I like a good strategy game, including the FF Tactics/Fire Emblem style and also a more Civ-like experience
  • Adventure games are generally right up my alley.
  • I'll play action games, but I'd rather play them on a TV or PC monitor

I know I'm going to get Persona 4 Golden, but apart from that I have no ideas. Any recommendations?

Edit: spelling typo

I'd be interested in seeing a poll of this topic.

I think it would be cool if they put up a video alongside the audio upload. I always enjoy the livestreamed podcasts from E3 and such.

Look, GB has given out ALOT of 5/5 scores. I don't see the difference between a 5 out of 5 on GB versus a 10 out of 10 at GS. If they used to act like it was some godlike game achievement for a game to be 10/10 then that's super lame. No way in hell can you prove to me that any of their 10 out of 10's before this year were "Perfect" that's bullshit, no game is perfect.

Like on GB, a gamespot 10/10 is meant to represent games that play exceptionally well and are super well executed, nothing else. I cannot possibly see how they can go around calling any game "perfect". Good riddance to the old system if that's what it meant.

The entire point the OP is making is that a 10/10 from gamespot did not use to mean that and nothing more, hence the phrase "change in philosophy". Changing what the score represents has allowed them to use it much more willingly. This wasn't a qualitative judgement on whether games "deserve" the scores or not.

Not directed towards you specifically, but the defensive posture which some in this thread seem to be jumping to is bizarre.

Exactly. People just like to be defensive over nothing. OP, you are making a salient observation.

@zombiepie You like Mr. Plinkett and Redlettermedia a whole lot huh? Just giving you a hard time. I am loving this blog series.

I have really fond memories of this game. I absolutely loved it when I first played it as a 12 year old. It is really cool to see the perspectives of an adult playing it for the first time in 2015. It really highlights how seriously flawed the game is and how immature the storytelling really is. The bombcast guys were so spot on in their analysis of a "golden age" of games. I played this when I was 12, so to me it will always be awesome. I love this series, because it's allowing me to see these faults while keeping my own experiences and memories of the game intact. Keep it up!

Playing men crossdressing as comedy is considered transphobic. I am not as educated as I would like in order to eloquently explain why, but basically its the entire idea "oh a MAN dressed as a WOMAN oh and he's doing it to make a FOOL of and DECIEVE another man, hohoho!" comedy is harmful to the trans community, especially because it touches upon stereotypes and assumptions trans folk have had to contend with for decades now (in particular the deception angle).

Well put.

I was listening to some old Bombcasts and I stumbled across the 8-11-2009 Bombcast featuring Jared Rea. I had forgotten how great his appearances were! I know he appears on at least one other Bombcast. Could anyone point me to that/those episode(s)?

That high is pretty short lived. Dan starts to get old pretty quick, and Brad has become pretty annoying. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but Brad has just seemed like a jerk lately...

Edit: I should say though that Drew being a regular is the best thing that's happened to the Bombcast in a long time.
