People will yammer on and on about how all the kits in BF2 served their purpose and fostered individuality. Thats fine and all, but in reality there were only 2 kits used in clan-matches (I would argue that clan matches is the epitome of teamwork and all that, so this makes my point valid) medic and anti-tank.
From top to bottom:
Spec-Ops, only really useful for sabotaging in specific situations, so you would never have a spec-ops with you, just spawn in when/if you need one - which is very rare...
Sniper can't do shit in BF2, by the time he kills one, a medic would revive two. Useless close quarters versus someone who knows what they're doing.
Assault is only a medic without med packs and shock paddles. The noob-tube in BF2 is pathetic.
Support is it's own class, but should be merged with assault. Ammo have never been an issue when I've played BF2, if you live long enough to spend all your ammo, you have had 50 opportunities to pick up another kit from someone you've killed. This class needs to be made more useful, as it is now it's only used for excessive nade spamming.
Engineer only becomes useful when you drive a tank to repair yourself. You only spawn in as this kit when you're driving tanks, or secure a flag with mines - after you've done that you spawn as medic.
Medic is as powerful as assault, but have med packs and shock paddles. AK-101 is arguably the best gun in BF2.
Anti-Tank - you always need him, always. The most underrated class in BF2, imo. The only kit that can permakill someone beyond revive.
This is my (personal) opinion on how the kits works in BF2, I have no problem merging support and assault into one kit, engineer and anti-tank into one and spec-ops and sniper into one. This leaves 4 classes you could use whenever, not just when the situation warrants it. That leaves 4 kits, Sniper/Spec-Ops, Assault/Support, Medic and Anti-tank/Engineer.
