This was an especially good edition Zombie! And Merry Xmas, ps, if that's your thing. Thanks for suffering to give us the gift of these blogs. Much appreciated :D
Really bust a gut on your dead team vs the text book. Best non sequitur image in the series so far!
Once again, Black Mage Village hitting with those narrative haymakers. That location is responsible for so much of what I remember fondly of FFIX.
There's a part coming up (pretty sure very soon) I feel someone needs to say something to you about, but, it would be spoiling it. Dunno if your sherpa gave you any hints or what already, but good luck.
For as messy, inconsistent, patchy & cartoony as Final Fantasy IX is, it has a soft, human core at the centre. There's far more "sensitivity" in this game than in most. Questions of life and death can be so cliche and so boring and so try-hard. If anything can be said of FFIX I think it is that it is earnest.
The changes to locations over the narrative is definitely one of the standout achievements in this game. It really rewarded exploration and returning to locations. In most FFs, you might find yourself returning to X or Y place to cash in a sidequest or just stop in, but generally you found a static world or location frozen in it's previous peril, as if they didn't get the memo that things had moved on.
@convox: You're like the fourth person to inform me that 40 minutes isn't that long for a quick look. At first I thought people were deliberately missing the joke, but I'm starting to think it might actually be me.
Welcome to Giant Bomb!
This is actually a pretty short QL, in the grand scheme of things.
@efesell: Not sure what you mean by ideal tone for the world. I mean, stories about evil kings taking over the world are kinda par for the course when it comes to fantasy.
I think he meant not the ideal tone for OUR WORLD, right now, re: he is thinking about US politics maybe
I am really surprised how much I want to play this, considering how slight my experience with builders or Dragon Quest is. Been really liking the modern DQ look (this and Heroes).
That said, full priced games are completely out of the question for me, so, not happening any time soon. $80 bucks ain't nothing to sneeze at these days.. stupid poor life...
I actually like the fighting in this game. It's a like VF beta or something... It'd be cool to master the moves, I might delay the game if I can and try that, as I've heard some of the animations change.
