I had a feeling bioshock would overcome looking at the lists over the past week, nice to see gta v getting its props, and sweeet to see brothers make the list.

there's no way Syndicate or ZombiU would've even gotten close this year. I mean GTA V didn't even make it. a great year for games.

I think it's super dumb to try to tell people they liked a game too much.

yep.

it's as if you not being able to understand something is a sign that thing is not meant to be understood, rather than a sign you should really just try a little bit harder to understand it.

12 Years a Slave was spectacular and pretty much cemented Steve Mcqueen as one of the best directors today.

I loved his first film, but that last one, whatever it was called, about sex, i found that really overblown and unnecessary, so I've been hoping he'd adapt a novel or a true story again. it's not out here until Jan 10th, but I'm looking forward to it now.

No love for Captain Phillips?

it left me cold. i don't know if that ultra-realist style of Paul Greengrass has lost it's impact or what. i love his Bloody Sunday film, but i guess it all comes down to the material, and here it was not enough for me.

but I had a really bad theater experience with these two teenage girls constantly talking along with a guy who kept answering his phone and describing the movie to whoever called him. Also is texting during a movie ok? because I can't go to a movie without 4 or 5 people texting or going on the internet on their phone. I find the lights are kind of distracting, but maybe just need to learn how to ignore them.

this is all heinous. i go to the cinema on monday or tuesday mornings, when it's only ocd nerds like me who don't even eat in there, i cannot handle the behaviour in evening shows at all, so inconsiderate.

i go to the cinema a lot, i enjoy a lot of what i watch but it's rare there's even one film a year that i really like - last examples are Blue Valentine, Hunger, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

this year what i enjoyed most was Emma Thompson's performance as P.L. Travers in Saving Mr. Banks.

@xyzygy: yeh the game is pretty good about letting you see all the content without worrying about that stuff, then introducing the difficulty curve later. i only sorted out the bags thing in the last ten or so levels, and it can be a lot to take care of, even for just one character sorting through all that loot is a big task.

i like the multiplayer aspect, but as usual there is the element of being hurried along, there are quite a few quests that i wasn't able to figure out on my own, and now at the level i am, soloing the higher-road bosses seems impossible so it's full party or nothing, which means the pacing is out my hands, sometimes you learn a few things on a run, sometimes you don't get the chance.

@hh: Do the bosses really need studying on higher levels though? Are you sure you just don't have your equipment up to snuff, and have a good party/play online?

i don't know, maybe it just feels that way to me, i can see team-mates running clear at certain points and acting in unison at times, while i'm all caught up in some frenzied attack and about to die. i take pretty good care of what resistances and attacks i'm wielding for each dungeon - one of the things i love about the game - but maybe it's just that it's so chaotic in there and i need to get more familiar with what's going on beyond my own rotation, but i guess it never hurts to read up on boss attacks and weaknesses anyway.
