People, why would you want to watch a two hour segment, each week, of people talking into microphones about games?

Would you expect some sort of additional game footage running alongside the commentary, or something?

I'm sure it was more a dig at those people continually complaining and bitching about the subscription.  To be honest, if there were a part of this website where those members who felt the need to constantly scream about how unfair the membership scheme is weren't allowed, I'd be down... "
Yeah, but he wasn't talking about a "place for non-subscribers to bitch about subscribers" forum - which would be great. He was suggesting (I believe) a place for just subscribers to talk. Which is lame.

No.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke, but regardless - we're on the same page.

I'm sick and tired of the 'subscribers/GB/Whiskey are cunts' line - its fucking retarded.

" I think I'll jump in...maybe having money riding on this site would nudge me out of lurker status and into the seedy, neon light of the Giant Bomb community. I'm not surprised there's so much negative backlash because this is the internet, but weren't some of you naysayers wondering how in the hell this site was making money and hence curious about the viability of the site? Intermittent ads don't pay for a whole team. "

Hehe, this is my first post, my subscription is also nudging me out of lurker status. =)  Seriously, all the negativity around here is crazy.  How much of GB's amazing work have you guys slurped up over the years, without them ever asking for a dime?  How many QLs, how many episodes of ER and TANG, how many fucking AWESOME BOMBCASTS have we all been given?  Now's the chance to give back and say that you appreciate their hard work.  To the Whiskey guys: I'm sorry you have to put up with all this bullshit. "

  • I'd love to see a yearly t-shirt. I am cool with the $10 extra.
  • I would prefer GB-specific stuff on that t-shirt. Not general WM-stuff.
  • On second thought, why don't you sell (more) t-shirts? I mean that is the business model of those 1-man web comics like questionablecontent.net. It seems to work for them, an the shirts are cool.
  • Let the yearly subscribers just select one for free. Maybe add an exclusive choice.
  • Support paypal. You are probably not aware of that, but much of continental europe despises credit cards (which are used like debit cards here anyway).
  • Calendars of real chicks?
"
Both of these posts are amazing.

I'm so angry at those people that feel the need to bitch about this subscription model. Giantbomb have given literally days of entertainment to me in the last couple of years. I can be assured that if I'm bored, there'll be something on this site that'll entertain men.

The fact that people have been using this site for years, that now feel betrayed because Whiskey have the audacity to want to make some money from this place astounds me.

Get some perspective, guys.

What are you talking about?  The iPhone is trendy, yes, but there is also real function to the device.  There is value associated to the product and feature set, outside of its phone making capabilities.  Even items that have no function outside of being trendy have an unspecified value applied to the m to the person who chooses to purchase.  You're really failing in your business 101 seminar you're trying to put on here. "
I'm not trying to put on a business seminar, I very much detest that idea. In fact, I want as little as possible to do with "business" which is why I'm so disappointed in this site to begin with. Whether or not the item is trendy or not and whether or not that makes a person feel like it's worth spending their money on something is entirely beside the point. I think it's cruel and unethical to create demand by creating a situation where your product will sell, if you can't justify that situation's value in terms of what it offers to society as a whole (and I don't mean economic growth, because I couldn't care less). Simply put, it's conning people into buying stuff they have no real need for. I know a lot of marketing people con themselves into believeing that you can't sell people stuff they don't want to buy but that's complete horse shit. You absolutely can, it's done all the time, and I hate it. "
Look, you're absolutely entitled to your opinion, but what you're spouting here is absolute tripe.

You're arguing a point that has no business being here, on a videogames site.

Basically, your point is that companies should not charge for something unless there is a specified amount of social value associated, right?

This is complete bullshit, because without economic wealth, there is no for social growth. The line you're spouting falls completely on it's face. If you're concerned about where the $50 actually goes, take a look into how much tax Whiskey pays, and where that money goes to. I'm sure we can find something suitable for you get your teeth into.
