What are you talking about? The iPhone is trendy, yes, but there is also real function to the device. There is value associated to the product and feature set, outside of its phone making capabilities. Even items that have no function outside of being trendy have an unspecified value applied to the m to the person who chooses to purchase. I'm not trying to put on a business seminar, I very much detest that idea. In fact, I want as little as possible to do with "business" which is why I'm so disappointed in this site to begin with. Whether or not the item is trendy or not and whether or not that makes a person feel like it's worth spending their money on something is entirely beside the point. I think it's cruel and unethical to create demand by creating a situation where your product will sell, if you can't justify that situation's value in terms of what it offers to society as a whole (and I don't mean economic growth, because I couldn't care less). Simply put, it's conning people into buying stuff they have no real need for. I know a lot of marketing people con themselves into believeing that you can't sell people stuff they don't want to buy but that's complete horse shit. You absolutely can, it's done all the time, and I hate it. "
