@alex@vinny As I just played Sentinel (after ME1 Vanguard like here), a quick tip about the tech armor: You can turn it on long before the fight starts and it will remain until destroyed. So pretty much as soon as you get control of Shep Shep, you should pop that armor.

And you should definitely do the "Dossier: The Master Thief" mission as soon as possible. The mission itself, you'll like a lot and the SMG you get from it (Locust) is the best you can have! And the character is cool as all outdoors to boot.

So glad they did this all those years ago. I would have never given the game a chance if not for this (I was a Genesis guy, skipped SNES). RIP Ryan.

But damn if this ending sequence in the last two episodes isn't the best the series has been when it comes to the primary plot of the trilogy. There are still some individual character moments and stories that probably stand out more, but the Prothean VI leading to the Citadel, Saren, and the space battle still stands on top of any comparable sequence from both a story perspective and a cinematic perspective.

What I love most is that a throwaway moment near the beginning of the game (in 'Mass Alex' 1:00:07 mark of Part 2) you learn there is a scale model of a Mass Relay, and *that* turns out to be the Conduit all along. Such a great set up.

Not looking at things with rose colored glasses as, much like Alex, I'm just getting to the Mass Effect trilogy. I'm in the middle of ME2 (on the last loyalty mission) and I have to say, I like the gameplay of ME1 more. I mean, ME2 is just a well done cover shooter. But I dont really like cover shooters. I felt the play in ME1 was somewhat more 'dynamic'. Admittedly, there are many more varied environments, but in the end, they all feel like a corridor shooting gallery. I missed the open spaces of the Mako segments (mitigated *a little* by the Overlord DLC).

And I kinda really hate that my FemShep cant date Tali! ;) (I got a hug though....)

The quarian homeworld totally still exists. A lot of quarian culture is an expy of Jewish diaspora stuff, down to a lot of toasts and blessings revolving around seeing the homeland again someday.

Interesting. I immediately felt that the Quarians were representative of Roma/Romani culture, particularly the nomadic part. They rapidly became my favorite of the alien species, probably because Tali is just a fantastic character.

Call me crazy, but the galaxy map music always reminded me of the Subway sex scene in Risky Business.

Google "Tangerine Dream Love On a Real Train." You'll see what I mean.

You're crazy!
That aside, I disagree with you, but I can see how you'd think off that. Now you've got me thinking of Rebecca De Mornay again....

Anyway, playing ME2 now (1st time) and I really find myself missing the Mako. I'm not sure I agree that ME2 is the massive (pun intended) step up in combat from ME1. Probably is a better "shooter" than ME1, but only middle of the pack when stacked against other cover-based shooters. Story still seems good though.

Re: Hanoi - I've played a ton of puzzle games (including *all* the Prof. Laytons) and I'm sure I have come across that type of puzzle before. But never has it been as poorly explained as here in ME1. I only played that part about a week ago, admittedly, it was near the end of a long play-session (and day in general). But I could not suss out what it was asking me to do. Once I realized that you could only stack onto a larger object, it became trivial. But I didnt readily recognize them as physical differences. I thought it was just a weird perspective thing. A fresh look the next day, and grasping the controls, and I did it about as fast as Vinny did.

Re Alex's Gameplay: So glad Alex is using throw and marksman more. He is really tearing through the combat now! (Upgraded weapons/mods doesnt hurt). You may want to put your best "combat scanner" mod on a squadmate's primary gun. That way you can always see the baddies on the radar when guns are drawn.

Shepard can dance at the Flux club after you finish Virmire.

It's before that. You have to finish the side mission with the Quasar scanning/cheating given by the Salarian who got thrown out of Flux. Then Doran hits the dance floor (as he said and Alex reacted to) and you can 'talk' with Doran to dance.

The highest level of equipment on first playthrough of ME1 is usually around 7. I think weapon mods are hard capped to 5.

In a new game+ you can get up to 10 fairly easily but all the enemies are harder so it's not required on first run.

Level 10 is the hard cap across all Mass Effect games for equipment.

Nah, you can get level 10 stuff in a first playthrough. Maybe it is reliant on what level Shepard is, but I hit the level cap of 50 on my first (and only) ME1 run and at the end, pretty much everything dropping was IX or X.
