Game of The Year 2014

Well, 2014 is over, and so of course it's that time of the year where we all put up our annual game of the year lists. At first, like a lot of people this year wasn't that great for video games. There were a lot of disappointing games, Watch Dogs being the big one for me, and there were even more broken games this year. But why dwell on the negative where the is so much positive. Without further Ado, I now commence my yearly game of the year list

10. Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Kevin spacey, guns, droneds, jumpsuits. What more can I say?

I really debated between this game or Titanfall on my list, and although I spent some time figuring out how to set up a Korean vpn to play Titanfall a few days early, it just didn't have the lasting power of Call of Duty this year for me.

Plus Kevin Spacey...am I right?!

9. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I picked up the first The Binding of Isaac because it was the next game made by one of the guys who made Super Meat Boy, and although I really liked his previous games, there was just something about this experience that didn't really gel with me.

I'm so glad I decided to give this game another try, and had it not been free I don't think I ever would have given it a second try. I'm so glad I decided to give it a second chance because I've really fallen in love with this game that I originally didn't really like that much of.

8. Nidhogg

If you have never played Nidhogg than you really owe it to yourself to go out there and pick this one up. Nidhogg was by far one of the most rewarding games that I played this year. I've had matches that lasted a couple of minutes, and I've had matches that wound up lasting close to a half an hour. These long form matches are definitely some of the most stressful, yet most rewarding multiplayer experiences I have had all year. I almost punched my friend over this game, but that's a different story for a different day.

7 Mario Golf: World Tour

I promise I'm not a Nintendo fanboy, but you'll probably notice a trend from this moment forward on my list, and that is, that this year was a great year for Nintendo games. It all started with the release of this game in May. Mario Golf was released during my finals week at college, and during my downtime all I could do was play Mario Golf. It wasn't just that week that I played a ton of Mario Golf, but it lasted pretty much the entire summer. All those days I could have been out really golfing...I spent playing Mario Golf.

6. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Like a lot of people, I was completely surprised with Captain Toad. I fully had expected to not get a lot of enjoyment out of a game that was originally a few mini games in Super Mario 3D World, but when the early buzz was extremely positive about this game, I figured I had to check it out. Boy am I glad I did! I'm only about half way done with the main game, but I can already tell I'm probably going to go back and get all the secret unlockables, which, to my knowledge I've never really done in a game before, but with this one I just might.

5. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Growing up in the early 90's I should have been a huge fan of Pokemon, but I wasn't. That was always my little brother's thing, and I didn't want to be a part of anything that little twerp was into. I was three years his senior, and far to mature to collect those silly little Pokemon cards.

Crap...I just realized, Hearthstone is my Pokémon Trading Card Game. The things I always made fun of my brother for liking in Pokemon, is the exact same stuff I like about Hearthstone. Blizzard did the impossible. Not only did they make it easy to learn their collectible card game, but they made it incredibly hard to put down. With that said, I'm going to go play a round of Hearthstone right now!

4. Dragon Age: Inquisition

My dad once told me he'd kick me out of the house if I played Dungeons and Dragons in his house. Growing up in the 70's the only thing he knew about that game was that he heard from somebody that it was satanic, and therefore It was not to be played in our house. I think my dad is stupid...oh, and I really love Dragon Age Inquisition.

3. Mario Kart 8

There's an old adage that says, "your first Mario Kart is your favorite." Although I don't completely agree with this, Mario Kart 8 perfected everything that made Mario Kart fun, so much so, that I almost forgot that I ever played another Mario Kart game before. Mario Kart 8 may not be my first Mario Kart game, but it definitely is the best one.

2. Towerfall: Ascension

I bought an Ouya for the emulators and stayed for TowerFall. Every sunday for months we would go to lunch after church, and then go back to somebody's house to play Towerfall. Towerfall was our drug and I was the dealer. Then Ascension came out, and everybody had to come to my house because I wasn't going to lug my PC around to play the perfected version of an already perfect game.

1. Super Smash Bros.

The only game that could possibly overthrow my love for TowerFall is a Smash Bros game. The thing I love about this game, and every Smash Bros game is one of the exact same things that Towerfall gives me is that it's extremely easy to pick up, and incredibly hard to master. Just take a moment to look up pro tips on youtube, and you'll see what I mean.

I always expected to like Super Smash Bros, but the thing I didn't expect was how much I would like the 8 player smash mode. It reminds me a lot of the fun I had in high school getting 16 player Lan parties of Halo together every Friday. There's just something fun and chaotic about picking small fights in a game while a larger battle is going on around you, and that's the type of thing that the 8 player smash really provides.

Although I may not always be able to get 8 people together to play, I am positive that Super Smash Bros will be a staple of game nights with my friends for years to come. See you tomorrow Smash Crew!

2013 Game of The Year List

This year was a huge year for gaming, we saw the release of two major consoles, and at least one minor console...I'm looking at you my beloved Ouya when I say that. The thing is, this year I found a lot more enjoyment in games that came out before 2013, so my list isn't going to follow the conventional rules of "Game of the Year" because these were just the games I enjoyed playing the most this year, and not my favorite games released this year. Don't worry though, I checked the rules, I can put whatever I want on this thing, so that's what I'm going to do! I know that The Last of Us deserves to be on this list, but I couldn't really justify putting a game I never came close to finish on this list, so I'll save it for next year; which will probably be dubbed as "The Year of the Backlog". (I won't be picking up the new consoles just yet). I'll probably have to put it up on next years list.

10. Grand Theft Auto V

There isn't a lot to say about Grand Theft Auto V That hasn't already been said, but the one thing that I think does need to be said, is that I really wonder why this game is not on more Game of the Year lists. Not only is it a near perfect game, but it's also damn good fun to play! Either way I had a blast playing it this year and that's why it was good enough to make it to this list.

9. SimCity

I'm not going to lie to you, the launch of SimCity this year was a disaster, but for some reason I found myself over and over again being drawn back into it's broken arms. I never played much of the other SimCity games before this years iteration. I was always more of a fan of the more simplistic RollerCoaster Tycoon games instead, but the more I read, and saw about SimCity, the more excited I was for it. I've never been in an unhealthy relationship, but I can only imagine my relationship with this game was very much that type of relationship. No matter how broken it made me, I kept returning back for more. Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of the people who thinks that SimCity was a busted piece of garbage, in fact for me the only problem I really had with the game was with server issues. All told I've apparently put close to 90 hours. "Why?" you ask? Well, because I love it. That's why. SimCity really is a great game.

8. Tomb Raider

When I first heard Crystal Dynamics decided to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, I could not have been more excited, as a guy who has never really been a huge fan of the Tomb Raider games, I couldn't have given a crap before about them, but for some reason I found myself really drawn to this game. Then I saw the first game play footage of the game, and like a lot of people, I kind of lost interest in paying any sort of attention to the release of this game. When March rolled around, I had kind of forgotten about the game altogether, but when it started getting really good press, I decided to give it a shot, and much to my surprise it ended up being one of my most adored games of all year. In fact I'd be surprised to not see it show up somewhere on my games of my life list someday. It was really that great of a game! I got a free copy when I built my PC this July, and I'm really excited to sometime soon fire it back up and give it another play-through, and since I'm not picking up any of the new consoles. 2014 might just be the year to do that.

7. Gone Home

I find it hard to even consider this a game, because it isn't much more than just walking around a house finding stuff, but when you dive deep down into it, it's really a wonderful story. I will keep this short because I'm afraid I'll spoil it for everyone! Go play Gone Home Now!

6. Windjammers

I have only the Giant Bomb Crew to thank for my addiction to this game. I know I'm not exactly playing it the "proper" way, when I plug in my Ouya, and play it on an emulator, but this game was made for one thing, and that's fun. Every time I have people over we pop out my Ouya, and play some Windjammers. It's a huge hit with all my friends now, and I have this site to thank for that. This game is one of those games that's extremely easy to pick up and play, but yet it has enough complexity to feel like it's worthwhile to keep playing it. Here's to the hopes that somebody will make a faithful remake with an online mode, so i never have to stop playing it.

5. Divekick

Don't get me wrong, but Divekick is the dumbest game to come out all year. It really is extremely stupid. Everything from the characters, to the fact that there's a "YOLO gem" that is essentially like committing suicide before a match even starts. Not to mention their commitment to the two button format so much, that even the menus are controlled with the use of two buttons. In fact, writing about how dumb this game makes me want to go play this game again so...hey, this is Tom, and I'll be finishing this post for Caleb, since he had to go play more divekick. He really loves this game. Enough said.

4. BioShock Infinite

Once I started playing Infinite, I couldn't stop. I bought it, and finished it within three short days, which is a very rare occurrence these days as a college student. It's not a perfect game, but in my mind it is a perfect story, and the creators of the game have definitely crafted a perfect world with Columbia. There was a moment where I knew this game was special, and it wasn't anything in the game part of the game. It was a moment near the end of the credits where the two voice actors who play Booker DeWitt, and Elizabeth are sitting in the recording studio and singing the most beautiful rendition I have ever heard of the old hymn "Will the Circle be Unbroken". There really was a ton of love poured into this game, and it definitely shows. If you haven't played it it's at least worth a try.

3. League of Legends

I know this game came out in 2009, but I didn't even play it until this year. I do remember trying to play it once back when it was first released, but I was so confused how to play, I probably didn't even play a full match. I didn't even really play all that much of this game, but it made it on my list simply because of the experiences I did have with it. More than once this year did a few friends and myself get together to play some of this game in the same room. In fact every single match I have played has been with friends. It really hearkens back to a time when we would all get together and have Halo lan parties in high school, and for that. This game was great!

2. Dota 2

I think Brad Shoemaker has talked at such great lengths about this game, that I don't need to justify why it's on my list. I've come nowhere near to plugging in the amount of time that he has into the game, and in fact I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of this game yet. The thing is, for a game that I'm not really that good at; I still find myself returning to it an awful lot.

1. To the Moon

I told you my list wouldn't follow the rules. Who says a game that came out in 2011 can't be my 2013 Game of the Year Not to be confused with the game Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon, To the Moon is a small little indie game with one of the best, and most overlooked stories in the medium.. Without spoiling too much, it's a beautiful love story that is told through a series of vignettes. The game plays out through a series of vignettes, that play sort of like a 16 bit era RPG. There's no combat, and it's a story that can be wrapped up in less than 4 hours, but it kept me engrossed the entire way. This game is entirely deserving of being game of the year for the fact that, like BioShock Infinite, it was one of the only games to ever make me cry. Yeah, that's right ladies...I cried from a game. If you haven't played this gem then stop what you're doing and go play it right now, and come back in four hours and tell me what you think. I personally, loved this game to the moon and back...pun intended.

Waiting for Next Gen

Over the years I've had the privilege of being able to own pretty much every console that's worth anything, from the NES on. Weather I got it right away, or years after it was on store shelves, I still found a way to buy every console, and put it through it's paces. This year's launch is really the first launch, not including the Wii U, that I will be an adult for. With being an adult comes having a lucrative job, and with that job comes a very small amount of cash. I do have the money for one, but for some reason I don't feel the need to go out and spend my hard earned money on a console, that I really don't need.

When the xbox 360 came out, I was 15, and didn't have a job to pay for one, and although a couple Christmas seasons came and went without receiving one, I didn't really care. During those two years I was able to play a lot of games, that wound up in bargain bins when stores were trying desperately to get rid of their extra stock of PS2 and Xbox games. Not only that, but I was able to play through other older games from years past. I can foresee the next couple of years going in a similar way. The only thing is, I've played most every game from this generation that's even worth anything, but the problem is I haven't had the time to finish all of them. In fact, I've never once received 1000 achievement points, or gotten a platinum trophy in a game. That's something I really want to do. There are countless games from even as far back as the NES era that I've always wanted to finish, but never had the skill, the chance to, or I just lost interest in the game, and by the time I came back I was completely lost.

In the summer of 2007 I got my first real job in the world. I was lucky to work doing landscaping for a guy who owned a lot of rental property, and at 10 dollars an hour, I was living the good life. All of my friends had jobs that got them barely minimum wage, but not me. With no responsibilities except paying for gas, I decided that fall to go out and get a 360. I would have gotten a PS3, but at the time I believe it was around 100 bucks more. In my mind, that was 100 dollars more I could spend on games. I walked in that Gamestop with a couple hundred bucks, and walked out with more games than I knew what to do with. You see, if I had gotten that system at launch I'd be paying 60 bucks for games that I might not have had that much interest in, but since I did wait I was able to come out with a stack of games for the same price I would have payed for two games at launch. I think this is a great strategy for this gen as well.

This summer my laptop broke, and I was faced with a choice to either buy a new laptop, build a new computer, or just use my old desktop, and ipad for a portable solution. I opted to build a fairly good gaming PC for just a little over 500 bucks, the price of an Xbox One. Right now I can play Battlefield 4 at Ultra settings, and haven't run into a game that even remotely comes close to chugging my computer. Even though I don't have a console to play some of these games on, I'm sure a big majority will make their way to PC. Especially since these new consoles are the closest things we've ever had in terms of a console being like a PC.

I'm really excited for these new consoles to come out, although for some reason, I'm fairly apprehensive about purchasing one right now. There aren't any standout games, that I really can't go without playing. When Uncharted 3 was about to come out, that was when I bought my Ps3. When I heard Final Fantasy 13 was going to be coming to 360 as well, I jumped in. Although it wasn't for a specific game, I saved up one summer to be able to buy my Dreamcast because of the game selection on the system. Where it stands right now, the only games I'm really stoked for haven't even come out, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Ouya emulators will be a much bigger part of my gaming habits this next year as I try to go back and beat some of the old RPG's of yore. As for everybody else? Well I hope you guys enjoy your consoles so that I can buy your used games when your done with them!

My Game Of The Year Blog

2011 was such a great year for gaming, and although I would love to list my top ten games of the year. I just had to turn it into a top twelve list of games. So without further adieu I bless you with my personal game of the year list, and the reasons I chose those games.

12. Saints Row: The Third

The reason this game isn't further up on my list, is simply because I haven't been able to spend enough time with it. Although I did play it extensively the week I got it, I haven't really had the chance to go back and get really into it. With that said, this game is extremely good. What this game lacks in mechanics, it more than makes up in the way it creates a believable, and extremely ridiculous world. I honestly have never played a game that is anything like Saints Row, and it is by far the most over the top game to come out this year, and possibly ever.

11. The Sims: Medieval

This game came out at exactly the right time of the year for me. Although the month it came out was kind of packed with games, I ended up picking this one up the month later. I bough it on a whim, not really expecting much, but I really ended up falling in love with this game. The Sims Medieval is far from being an expansion pack, and in fact it was sold as a standalone product. It's really good that it was sold as a standalone product because it is packed full of content, and it honestly doesn't play very much like the typical "Sims" formula of games. In fact, this game plays a lot more like a very light RPG. You have characters that you level up, and take care of. Although it isn't very heavy on story content, it still is extremely great and engaging.

10. Mortal Kombat

Everybody, who was even slightly involved in the game industry was sucked into the hype for this years iteration of Mortal Kombat. The name says it all; after a few years away, Mortal Kombat makes it's triumphant return. The creators at forgotten realms knew exactly what they were putting out this year, and exactly what kind of fighting game they were putting out. This year fully solidified the fact that fighting games are back, and they are here to stay. Although Marvel Vs Capcom 3 didn't make my list It comes in a very close second to this years Mortal Kombat. I chose to put Mortal Kombat on my list though because although I spent some time playing marvel vs capcom, I didn't spend nearly as much time as I did playing MK. Between the fully fleshed out single player campaign, and all of the other modes. This version of MK has found a way to bring back the beloved series, and make it one thing the Mortal Kombat series has never been: A tournament ready fighter.

9. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

I know I might get crucified for saying this, but I was never a huge fan of the original Deus Ex for some reason. Maybe it was because I came to the game too late or whatever, but you will never hear me denying that it really was a great game, from what I have played of it. Human Revolution brings back Deus Ex, and it brings it back with a vengance. With a story that will compel you to keep pushing forward, and mechanics that will keep you wanting to continue leveling up, and expanding your characters powers, Deus Ex is a game to reckon with. Although the boss battles in this game are atrocious. I will forgive them because I had so much fun playing through the game, that I will remember it for a long time to come.

8. Gears Of War 3

The Gears of War series has never been the type of series that I thought would wind up on a game of the year list, let alone mine. Sure they are popular games, and they have always been solid games, but they never have been the type of game that is extremely memorable...until now. Gears of War 3 is by far the best Gears game in the series. In fact it is probably the my favorite cover based shooter to come out in a long time. The story wrapped up in a good note, and it was the first of the series to have me emotionally invested in the characters. You won't find a more fun game to play through on co-op for your 360. Although I haven't gotten into the multiplayer as much as I would have liked, it is amazing. I wonder if there's even a single megabyte of data that isn't being used on this disc because It is packed full of goodies. I'd highly recommend it.

7. L.A. Noire

Rockstar Games has started building a huge pedigree for creating high profile games, that actually live up to the hype for me. Last year it happened with Red Dead Redemption, and it's happened again this year. What I loved about L.A. Noire is that it played like the old LucasArts and Sierra adventure games of the mid nineties. On the other hand the game played a lot like other Rockstar games. Filled with action, and also a story that remains engaging all the way to the end, L.A. Noire remains one of my favorite games for this year.

6. Dragon Age 2

Although, for a lot of fans of the first dragon age, this game did not live up to the hype, it did live up to it in my book. I never finished the first Dragon Age, but for some reason I got extremely hooked on this game. I didn't play though it until October, during the extra life event, and I somehow managed to play through a huge majority of the game all during that night. For some reason I completely attached to not only Hawke, but all of the other characters of his party. I completely forgave the repetition in the environments to the fact that this game was completely engaging to me. When I get some free time this year, I'll be sure to get back to the original Dragon Age.

5. Tiger Woods 12

I will try to keep this short, but I put Tiger Woods on my list this year because I became utterly addicted to it after I decided to pick it up on a whim from an Ebay Auction. I mostly loved my experience with this game because it is by far my favorite sports game to come out since the Sega Genesis era. I've never once bought DLC for a Sports game. I didn't just buy a piece of DLC...I bought the whole bunch. Enough said.

4. Forza 4

Forza 4 was another case of a game this year that came out at just the right time. It came out during a month where I was getting an itching for a good racing game, so I decided to buy into the hype, and pick up a copy of this game. I will not regret it. Forza is by far my favorite racing game to come out this generation, and it might even be my favorite racing game to come out ever. Let's just say I bought a racing wheel just to get more immersed in the experience...and it worked.

3. Skyrim

Skyrim is the number one game on many other Game of The Year Lists, but the reason it's not up there is simply because I haven't had the time to get as into it as others have. I rented Skyrim the day it came out from a Redbox, and although it was rather hard to do, I had to return it a few days later. After only four short days I was completely addicted to the game. With some pressure from the girlfriend, who ended up buying me the game for Christmas, I decided to put off buying the game until after the holidays. I know it's been almost two weeks since I got the game, but I still have yet to put in any more time into Skyrim. That's mostly because of the Number one game on my list. What I can tell you about my time with this game is this: Skyrim is a game you could lose hours upon hours of your life into, and I can see why some of my friends have gotten so hooked on the game. I can't wait to get the time to get back to the game, but I don't know when I'll take a break off of the Old Republic to get back into the world of Skyrim. I look forward to it when I do.

2. Uncharted 3

Let this one thing be said first before anything. Uncharted 3 is a technical marvel. It is by far the most technically impressive game to come out ever. Without spoiling the game for anybody who might read this I just want to say there were points where I had to pull my jaw off of the floor simply to say, "how the hell did they do that?". Greater than anything this game achieves technically, Uncharted 3 manages to be one of the greatest games I have played in a long long time. The only reason I stopped playing the game, and still haven't finished it was simply because I didn't want the experience to end. That's why I tried my hardest to stay away from the game for short periods of time. So far though I still can't get the game off my mind, and I need to finish the game to see how they manage to wrap up this trilogy. If you have a Ps3 then you need to play this game.

1. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Never, in my entire life, has a game come along that I can't stop playing, but since I've started playing The Old Republic I haven't even touched another game for more than a half hour here, and half hour there. Although this game is an MMO I haven't really had much time to play in many groups. I've grouped up from time to time for the occasional flashpoint, or higher level quest, but mostly I'm playing this game as another Knights Of The Old Republic game. Every main story quest, and every sidequest has been extremely engaging. I absolutely am in love with this game. Being a 21 year old college student with a girlfriend means that when Christmas Break came I didn't have as much time as I'd have liked to have to play games, but to this moment I have about 25 hours logged into the game, and honestly I haven't even touched a single other game since then. Now that this list is done I'm about to get off this computer, and get back to playing it. I fought myself on where I should put some of these games on this list, and there are even some games I left off the list that I wish I should have put on the list, but there was never one question about it. Star Wars: The Old Republic is by far my game of the year. I can't wait to get back to it!

My quick impressions on Rage

Before I start with telling you my impressions on Rage let me begin by saying I am not far AT ALL into the game. With that said, I can already tell you this game is going to be great, and all of the reviews so far would probably agree with me.

Here's what I'll say about the graphics in the game. They live up to what was expected from the game. When I saw the demos from E3 on Rage I didn't believe that the console version would look anything like the PC version (like most other games these days). I can happily say I was wrong. The game looks incredible. In fact it's probably one of the best, if not the best looking, console games out so far. Also, I don't know how they did it, but they found a way to lock that framerate at a solid 60. It's great

One misconception I had on the game before starting was that it was going to be a lot more like borderlands, and this is not the case. If you are looking for a borderlands 1.5 then you should look elsewhere. Although there is loot, and some mild RPG elements, it's not a looting RPG game at all. There are quests, but the quests seem to send you into smaller environments that play a lot like other Id Software games. If you liked the gameplay of Quake, Doom, or even Wolfenstein you will enjoy what you find in Rage. It's Id doing what Id does best. I can't speak about the car combat yet because so far all I have had the chance to drive is the four wheeler that they give you at the beginning of the game.

Once I get further into the game I'll probably update you on how the game is fairing for me.

See you tomorrow,

~Caleb

Frustrating Boss Battles in Games

I was playing gears of war 3 today on hardcore, and for over an hour I was stuck on the same stinking boss. Now, I'm not the best player of games out there. I'm not in the MLG, nor could I even come close to competing with probably their worse players. I am, however, quite an experienced gamer. I've been gaming since I was all but 5 years old when my grandma bought my family a Sega Genesis with the Lion King.

When that boss battle came up today though, It royally kicked my butt...over...and over...and over again. How frustrating is that!? We've all been there, and we all know how irritating it can be when you've got a great flow going with a game, and then boom! A boss stops you dead in your tracks. It's not a good feeling one bit.

Product Placement In Games and Movies

Daily Blog Day 2 of 31

Today I went and saw the movie The Help. Now I know I blogged about movies yesterday, and aside from telling you right now that I would actually recommend that movie, I won't say anything else.  The one thing that that movies inspired me to blog about is Product Placement. The main reason for it is because there is a little monologue this woman has about how great of a product Crisco is. It actually was a fun way to do product placement, and it really made me want to write about the subject.
For as long as I can remember product placement has been a very big part of movies and TV shows. Aside from 7 Up's Cool Spot and a few other completely obvious product filled games, I can't think of any games that had product placement in them until about 10 years ago. I'm not saying it's a problem at all. In fact If it's done correctly it can even add to the media you are creating, but I'll get to that more in a little bit. What I am saying is that I'm starting to notice it more and more.
We've seen it done in some terrible ways, like in Alan Wake where we saw the main protagonist using a very obvious verizon cell phone. The Skate franchise has even had achievements in the game named after the product that they are pimping. I use the term pimping in this case because when product placement is done bad...it's done really badly, and it almost makes you think they are whoring out their products to these games and movies.
We've also seen it used in some really good ways as well. I found it hard to think of any prime examples of it without going back and playing a few games for context, but I guess the fact that I can't think of any specific ways it was used is a good way to prove that it can be done well. In those cases we've seen it done well it was used by putting billboards of popular products from the real world,
Product placement can be done well. It can also be done in the completely wrong way. The thing we have to realize is that product placement isn't going away anytime soon, and I don't think it will ever go away. When product placement is done right it can really help you be drawn into the game, but when it's done wrong it really pulls us out of the experience.
Before I finish up this topic I want to recommend a movie I saw recently on this very subject. If you've ever seen or heard of the film SuperSize Me then you might know that the creator of that movie recently made another film on the subject of product placement in films. To fund this project he acually decided to sell product placement sponsorship in his film. It even went so far as to sell the name of the movie to being: Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. If you haven't seen this movie already then you really should. I don't think it's been released in theaters yet, but it was so effective it made me want to go to Sheetz Gas Station to buy Pom Pomegranate Juice. It really opened my eyes to product placement in media.

See you guys tomorrow,

PS: Sorry for posting this after midnight and into the next day. I'm really trying my hardest to keep with this 30 days of blog thing.

Reliving My Childhood Through Star Wars

I don't think I'm alone in saying that I grew up on the Star Wars films. I'm not quite certain, but I think there hasn't been a single year that has gone buy since I was 6 that I haven't watched a Star Wars movie. Now I'm not saying I'm obsessive or anything, which I'm not, but I am saying that I love those movies.
To celebrate the blu-rays being released a group of friends and I decided to have a 2 day marathon of the films. Yesterday we decided the best thing to do was to skip 1 and 2 and just jump to episode 3-6. I'm really glad we did this because it allowed us to actually watch the greatest of the Star Wars movies without completely burning out on them by the time we got to 5 or 6.
Today we decided it would be the best way to end the marathon by watching 1 and 2 with Riff Trax for both subsequent films. If you've never heard of Riff Tracks or Mystery Science Theater 3000 (The place Riff Trax got started) just imagine watching a movie with your funniest friends creating a commentary track over the movie the whole time. Now multiply those laughs by 10. I would highly recommend watching a movie with Riff Trax on them. It's a great experience and I've got to say comedy gold. As for the people who have watched Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Riff Trax then you know what I'm talking about. Regardless of weather you've seen Riff Trax or MTS3K I highly recommend the Star Wars Riff Trax.
Hopefully this blog hasn't bored you. I'd like to see what other people have to say about their experiences with Star Wars as a kid. Who knows what I'll write about tomorrow, but the whole point of doing these blogs is to grow as a writer and to get back to what I used to be. Maybe I'll actually proof these after a while.

See you tomorrow,
~Caleb

So, I'm thinking about writing again...

When I was in high school I used to have a real passion for writing and for photography. For the past couple of years I haven't even come close to touching either of these two hobbies. For some reason or other I'm getting slightly tired of always gaming and reading for a hobby, so it's time for a change of pace. For the next thirty days I am committing to blogging once a day, and I figured what better place to do it than on Giant Bomb.

For the past couple of years I have been listening to the Giant Bombcast, and for whatever reason I haven't felt the urge to get involved in the community. I know there is a thriving community on this site, but I haven't been involving myself in it. Maybe in the next month I will be able to get more involved in the community, and if even one person reads one of my blogs I will feel satisfied. Maybe I'm doing this for my own solidarity's sake, but I really think there could be somebody out here in the community who is in the same place that I am right now, and who might be inspired to get back to a long lost passion like I am.

For anybody reading this blog, I challenge you to grow with me this month. I know my writing style, and skills aren't what they used to be, but hopefully by the end of the month I will be right where I left off. Today I'm combining my current passion with my old passion: Gaming, and Writing. We'll see where this goes :D
