 Who in the world would pay a monthly fee to access non-gameplay portions of a video game

Non-gameplay? There are people who spend most of their time "playing" the AH. Just like people who spend all their time buying low and seeling high on eBay, it happens in WoW aswell. I know this sort of thing is what alot of people have wanted for a long time. I wont be paying for this but TBH, its not alot of money. Since the Internet has got popular people seem to think charging extra for convenience is wrong, but i still do for many things.

I remember back when Halo was originally going to be a Mac game because Bungie developed games for the Mac. The first one was ported to Mac and PC but Microsoft ruin everything.

@yakov456:
On my 3 year old gaming rig i underclock my GPU  to about half the stock speeds (260Mhz Core, 602Mhz Shader, 400Mhz Memory) when playing this game and it still runs smooth, so im guessing it would run well on most newish rigs.

" I must say that peer to peer connections especially in Aus aint all that great, even on the 360 (being connected to you friendy americans) however the way l4d does it would be a good model to emulate. As l4d on the PC looks to see if there are any local dedicated servers to use and if not, uses a p2p connection. That way people with crappy connections in different parts of the world can still play without absolute lag.  If Infinity Ward did something like this i would not mind at all. "
L4d has a low player cap doesn't it? Not really comparable to something like CoD. I agree, p2p outside of the U.S. is just garbage with games like CoD/BF. "
Yes you are correct, the number of players in a L4D game is usually 4 but has support for 8 in vs mode. What i was trying to say is that the matchmaking with the ability to connect to dedicated servers would alleviate many of the issues when it comes to lag, while still meeting IF's objective of having matchmaking on PC. Still clans may have issues arranging games. But i feel as though we will have to wait to see how it all turns out. "
8 isnt the highest, I actually play in a 16 player left 4 dead server. 8v8 versus. Another example of why dedicated servers are so awesome. There are quite a few servers with 18 and 20 slots aswell but are usually empty. Kinda sucks most people dont know about left 4 deads server browser.

Uh, just reading peoples comments about this being nothing really aggrivates me. People dont seem to understand dedicated servers. The types of communities on a matchmaking and a dedicated server system are COMPLETLEY different.

On matchmaking its more about a select few friends and getting a game fast, with dedicated servers it is more about the community. All the PC games i play online i play on the same dedicated server everytime because of the community there (and usually because of the latency). Not every single player there is a friend that i would add to a friend list and invite to other games, but they are still part of the community in which i play and these people are why i choose the community. In matchmaking its just your friends and random people to fill in the gaps, these random people are not a community. To try and exaplin it better: take a forum for example (dedicated), lots and lots of people, only some of them are actual friends and you dont know alot of them but they are all part of the community. Now imagine that forum with just you and a few friends (matchmaking) and a couple random people that only ever post once and never return again, its definetly not the same thing.

Sure, matchmaking isnt a bad thing, it can even work on a PC game (look at left 4 dead) and not everyone wants/needs a community like that but for alot of people its a step backwards, they should atleast allow dedicated servers alongside this new service (look at left 4 dead again, it has the "openserverbrowser" command which i use for joining servers)

Also, dedicated servers allow for alot more customisation. And im not talking massive customisation like new maps, i mean slight gameplay tweaks and adding extras that dont come as standard. Most dedicated servers these days have their own server specific ranking system for example, completley seperate from whatever ranking system the game uses (if any).
