I'm wondering if, like the car business, certain game memorabilia comes in and out of periods of high demand and rarity. If there's anyone here on GB that seriously collects rare, vintage goods from gaming history, could you tell us what the hot ticket items are? And what periods are considered recent classics fetching high prices vs. ones that you can get for a steal that might go way up in value down the road? Do you have anything super rare, something that might not even have a page here on GB? I'm sure a lot of us have heard of the Panasonic GameCube, the Sony PSX PS2, the Majesco Genesis 3, and the Sanyo 3D0, might someone here own something even more obscure? I read a while back that IBM made some kind of PC attachment edition of a game console, I think for Sega, like a Saturn that hooked up to PCs... But maybe I'm remembering wrong.
Any JRPG period. THey WILL become insanely harder to find over time and will fetch insane amounts of cash later on if taken care of. I have Xenoblade just for that reason. Gamestop exclusive+nintendo shop and very limited amounts of art books=SHITTON of cash later on. Same with most pre-orders you can hold.
Oh, and SNES games are getting insanely overpriced, mainly for ones that have not been rereleased such as Earthbound which is now currently fetching 200 bucks easily. (If you have a cartridge of this... then **** you! Seriously, I myself have been looking for this game FOR YEARS!!!)
The rarest games though are ones which were produced in a very limited quantity and late in a console cycle. It will most likely go unnoticed until the collectors market hears news about it. I am fully expecting Fragile Dreams to have this happen, or Devil Survivor 2 happen to it.
