But the question is, can you honestly say "Street FIghter 2" and consider that a better version than Super Turbo, or even Championship edition? And what about Ms. Pac-Man? I find more people saying they love Ms Pac-Man than the original.

On this list, my favorite would be super mario bros. 3. I always go back and forth on which game is better. This or super mario world. I've never even played sonic cd and never will. I remember skipping school for days playing metal gear over and over with my cousin, it’s like the halo thing Jeff stated. I think my first game was Tetris. Pac-man I could play nay day of the week until I die so I think from this list it’s the best game ever.

Max Payne 2.  The first one was groundbreaking and I put alot of time into it.  When The Fall of Max Payne was released, I remember not purchasing it at first because of what I heard about it's "length."  Since then, I've referred to it as my favorite game for at least the past 4 years.  Can't get over how stylish, accessible, and playable the game is.  I've gone from playing like a coke-fueled killer, to a slow-mo, bullet dodging (pausing for dramatic effect) angel of death, to playing cat-and-mouse, to attempting to clear levels without firing a bullet, sneaking through the level.  Game's amazing.

Duke Nukem 3D is missing from the list yes.
I'd copy/paste the Halo comment to Diablo 1/2 if they would appear on the list. They were good games with some of the greatest soundtracks ever, but nowhere near being the greatest games of all time.
Baldur's Gate, Wizardry and Ultima had a few entries that could be worthy of mention though.
Or Hexen. That game was awesome, with graphics that still impresses me today (when compared with other games from that same era of course). It could be a contender for the beautiful first level with the leaves blowing around in the wind alone.

I know it's open to interpretation, but no Goldeneye and Halo is allowed?  Aren't they practically the same thing, except that Goldeneye had a storyline and something to do other than shoot things?  Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Halo fan, but the first wasn't that good.

Less pretentious and more accurate than Symphony of the Night is Super Metroid.

No Gta3? Or any of the main Gta games. Gta3 is one of my favorites 

Half-Life series without a doubt on my part, when it came out i was about 8 years old so its been a part of my gaming life for as long as i can remember :) Not to mention all the wonderful mods it has brought thanks to the community. Out of the series, the original is my absolute favorite, and i still play it to this day just to finish it all the way so i can keep it fresh in my memory :D

I Know. it came out right at the end of the previous console generation. But I'm only 17, and find it pretty much impossible to ever make any decision other than subjectively, so there it is.

Let's see, greatest of all time lists always rub me the wrong damned way.  There have been thousands upon thousands of games released in the time between 1978 and today, it's impossible to really say what the "Greatest Game of All Time" is.  The best one can say without looking like a total tard is the best game of a time, or the best game of a genre.

Clearly no-one understands the meaning of this list. 
It's the list of games Jeff can understand why people would say is the greatest, not ones he chooses. Dear me...

In all honesty the greatest game ever is Pong, solely for the fact that its like the Birth of games, if Pong was never made games wouldn't be as they are now. its all about taking some format idea and building upon it.
And TBH you can look at yourself in the mirror and say "Pong sucks". It's that awesome. It changes people.

Wait why wasn't Ocarina of Time here, it certainly has been called the greatest by many people, and it was a major innovation for games in 3d. OOT is my personal favorite game of all time, but Im not sure if its the greatest game ever made. I think its an understandable choice though.

SUPER METROID is the best game ever made!!!

Unless you are a multiplayer-centric gamer or must choose an RPG, it's simply between Half-Life and GTA3, which don't appear on this list for some indefensible reason (no, the defense you just thought of isn't valid, so it's still indefensible).
 
Any reason other than actually being one of the greatest games ever made is not a reason to be an option for the greatest game ever made. Historical significance does not a greatest game ever made make, that's only one part of the recipe. With any luck, the real greatest game ever made hasn't come out yet, and will be outdone after release, and on and on.

I dunno about Space Invaders vs. Galaga. Galaga's way more FUN, but it's not nearly as tense; a play-session of Galaga is rarely going to be as tense as a session of Space Invaders. Invaders uses such brilliant design mechanisms in its music and mechanics to evoke that, too. Galaga looks and plays better, but I'd still say Invaders is the better game because it has oppressive atmosphere.

No Command & Conquer? While the AI was pretty awful, I think it still holds up quite well, it's easy to grasp and play, and unlike Blizzard's RTSes it doesn't put a lot of arbitrary limitations in your way (like noticeable unit caps - there is one, but it takes a lot of effort to reach it, it also doesn't prohibit you from attacking the ground where you think there are cloaked units, even if you haven't explicitly detected them with a detector unit). Also, it's got FMV sequences, a decent soundtrack (where you can skip songs you don't like or set your favorite on repeat) and while somewhat linear, it almost ever gives you more than one mission to choose from, giving you a sense of personally controlling the battle rather than just being along for the ride.

Don't care how much hate this gets but as far as I'm concerned gta4 was a masterpiece, in fact the lack of any grand theft auto title on this list is a little suspicious.
