Thank you everyone that posted here, I find dreams and nightmares fascinating, and it's pretty cool to hear other people's experiences.
I was impressed by how many of you have bad dreams about school, probably because it's such a big part of our lives, or because it happens while we're still forming our character. @jeust, do you have any guesses about that? you seem to know a lot about the subject.
I also had bad dreams about school.
I've dreamt two times I believe that I had gone to school, and things were happening normal, and then I felt horrified, looked at my legs, and I had forgotten my pants. Everyone started laughting at me, and I runned away.
To me it talks about fear of the ridicule. And then at school, where I was at the time, and I felt hard pressed to succeed personally and socially.
I believe like you said that we dream about school or work because it is really a very important part of our lives, and we are pressured a lot to succeed, socially, by our parents, family, friends, teachers, and also by that and the results of the success and recognition we get, we start pressuring ourselves, until many times we can't conceive failing. And when we think about it we try to brush it away from our attention, so when we dream that fear comes again to our attention, when we aren't consciously controlling our thoughts.
Dreams effectively let us live what we consciously don't allow ourselves to live. As there are things we don't consider living and try to brush away from thought, they come to us when we can't defend ourselves from them.
And as we have many times difficulty dealing with those feelings and ideas consciously, we normally don't remember our dreams, or forget them after a little while. We repress those memories.
That's why to end terrible nightmares we should try to understand what they are about, what do they tell us about? At some point it will start to make us suffer thinking about the subject, that's when we are probably closer to finding the truth.
