Also the Michael Richards effect at work in this thread is pretty hilarious, what with the homophobes swarming out of the woodwork to "defend" Ryan in the same way that Bizarro drops babies into burning buildings as his twisted version of Superman's altruism.

Good on Ryan apologizing for something he feels he needs to apologize for.

However, I still can't wrap my head around how this community feels its ok to pick and choose what slurs/bigoted remarks are fine and what aren't. Just wish the same respect was shown all around and not selectively.

Yes, I agree. It's interesting how quickly and completely lgbtpeople joined the protected identity caste in the States (well for the most part, trans people are still bagged on pretty heavily, especially by gays)

Context is meaningless, because that word comes with too much of its own hurtful baggage to ever possibly justify.

 Thank you!

Nothing else about coachella matters except the fucking tupac hologram. If the fake computer man puts on a more convincing performance than the actual living flesh-and-blood performer standing right next to it, then you know that the FUTURE IS NOW

The "fetus is a human when it's viable ex-womb" is a tricky line of reasoning... what happens when we have immunologically bespoke artificial wombs that are just as good as the original? If at that point the courts said "look... you can either bring this child to term, or you can pay to have it grown in an incubator, but you can't abort it" does this sidestep 4th and 13th  amendment issues with regard to forced pregnancy?

I love GoG... I am happy that the internet appears to have gotten over its resentment over their dumbass "we're going out of business zz ;_;" ploy from a year or two back.

If I lived in CONUS I would ccw because I am a huge coward and would much rather shoot someone who was threatening my life than get into a struggle with them or desperately try to flee.

Barring that a cellphone is a pretty good fight defuser... just call the cops if someone is being ruff. What are they going to do? Call you a fag?

@fullmetal5550: Make sure you buy at least a .40 caliber, hallow point ammo, always have a bullet in the chamber, and make sure it can fire regardless if there is a magazine in it or not. Also, take self defense classes. There is nothing worse than being shot with your own weapon..

Keeping a bullet in the chamber 24/7 is a sure path to an ND and, yes, being shot by your own weapon.

Can you give us an example of a contemporary philosopher who you believe posits an objective meaning to life?
