So there are numerous rumors about the release of a new Xbox and PlayStation being released in 2012. I think it’s a year too soon, but hey I’m sure they know what they are doing. I hope.

I just am let down constantly by developers in this generation. Why are games being released that run sub 720p? Red Faction Armageddon and Trenched are two of the most recent examples.

Muddy visuals and poor rendering hamper these games significantly. They don’t look good, and they should. Will the next generation suffer from this as well? 720p isn’t to much to ask. If I wanted sub HD games I'll play my Wii.

Look, they gotta' get 'em out in 2012. That is their last chance to make money before the world ends!

should I laugh or cry? It would be a shame if they launched at they still didn't fully support 720p

I think their is too much at stake now for them to announce at may/june and sell in November. If anything they will announce in 2012 for a release in 2013 but even then, im skeptical

When it comes to developers, there are those who care about rock solid 60fps and those who just want to make your 360/PS3 melt in to a pile of goo.  Armageddon probably pushed it a little too far and had to pay with some pixels. Can't say the same for Trenched though, but that's typical of Double Fine.

Besides the 1212 slip up...  I don't believe that they'll release in 2012.  It's not enough announce time to launch time space.  Now, if you want to say that they're going to announce in 2012 and release in 2013 or 2014, ok, maybe, sure, I could see that. 

I really hope that it's not a 2012 release. Here is the news story I received my information from.Here is the next Xbox story.This is after both EA and Crytek denied haven development kits.

It's safe to assume that it'll be at least a year after 3rd parties receive a development kit that the systems will be released. L

My bet is that there is a new Xbox in 2012 releasing with Halo 4. PlayStation is in a lot of trouble (PSN Hack, retailers relationships over the PSPGO) and I could see them holding off.

I'm still under the belief that an announcement most likely from Microsoft will be made at E3 2012 for a 2013 release which to me is sensible as that gives the 360 8 years which is impressive and the Kinect at least 2 years to make profit without any new hardware to undermine sales.

I was under the impression that Microsoft recently announced the 360 to be the main platform til 2013? Or did I dream that somewhere?
 
I don't see Sony releasing the next-gen systems until at least 2014: I read somewhere that Sony won't be implementing a new console til at least 2015; granted, i read that on another forum, so it would be nice to confirm. 
 
Developers are just figuring out how to code properly for Blu-Ray and the PS3, so I don't see Sony rushing into a next-gen war any time in the very near future.

I think it's about 800 years too soon.  As for the next-gen, I think with a lot of the big games coming out early next year, it appears to me that this year and early next year developers will be ending their work on this current gen and moving on to the next gen which I think will begin in Fall 2013. I don't believe those rumors for a second that PS4 will be out in 2012. There's no way they'd be a year away from launch and we'd have no info at all yet.

50 bucks says no next gen console 'till 2014 (except for the wiiu, yo). 
 there is literally nothing that would make me want to buy a new console. 
the only improvements i can think of right now for xbox are: - better graphics, and blu-ray 
as for the playstation : - slightly better graphics, and a slightly better online platform 
 
i dont think there is going to be a graphical leap, in the near future, huge enough to validade buying a new console.

Ahh, 1212. The year Bran Castle was erected, the children's crusade, Frederick II was made King of Germany, and the Playstation 4 was released.

I do not think Sony or MS will release a new console until 2014. Foxcom can other manufactures can say all they want, developers can needle all they want, but the fiscal calculation doesn’t add up to new consoles coming out soon. The worldwide economy is still weak, so next year is the worst time to put out a new console that would have to cost $350 to $400. The only thing that would have pushed them would have been a Wii U that was filled with disruptive technology. The Wii U is the least disruptive technology we saw at last e3, it is status quo tech.

I hope not, I just bought a ps3 :o

Granted BFMC was ported from last gen and the BF3 shot is probably PC, but still. You get the point...

I know. I'm just saying there are 360 games that look like an Xbox games.

Trenched was a lot of fun, but it was janky (visuals control options) in a lot of ways. I guess I was disappointed in Trenched because it was $15, and it still didn't run at 720p unlike several other XBLA releases.
