@ll_exile_ll: No, all they need is a stability patch. The issue everyone has with ARs is that most everyone has one of those two exotic ones. A standard AR is not that powerful from long range. Medium, yes, as it should be. I should be able to empty a clip of 24 bullets into your head and kill you from medium range if you are dumb enough to just run at me in a straight line. The real issues with ARs are the two exotic ones. Nerf those. Regular ones are not overpowered at all. Nerfing things in wide sweeps is not the answer to any of the problems. It just creates more. Like now Scout rifles will be "too powerful" and everyone will bitch about those because they will be one shot killed by them. And everyone will be using them at all ranges. Plus they have yet to nerf the range on fusion rifles. Which everyone has an issue with. They are by far the most powerful special weapon. And taken advantage of the most.

It's not just exotic ARs, any green shingen c would destroy scout rifles at range, as would a blue shingen e to an even greater extent. My purple shadow price annihilates everyone from across the map. The nerf was needed for all ARs.

This patch is a joke. AR being nerfed is terrible. Shotguns range being nerfed even more than they already is pathetic. Why are hand cannons getting an accuracy increase? That makes no sense, they are the easiest head shot kill already. Stupid. Why no fusion rifle nerf? Most over powered weapon there is.

Bungie has no idea what they are doing with this game.

Auto rifles absolutely need the nerf. Right now auto rifles are outclassing every other weapon in crucible even at mid to long range, which is where scout rifles should be thriving. Right now there's no reason to use anything other than auto rifles in crucible, even on large maps like Bastion and First Light.

Hopefully by taking auto rifles down a notch and buffing scout rifles, each weapon type will now have specific uses and situations where they are best suited, rather than auto rifles be the best choice for every single map and situation.

I thought they were going to fix Bad-JuJu. :(

In the next full patch, this is a hotfix.

@ll_exile_ll: And by crazy you probably mean like 3 feet? Yeah, not really. The best range shotgun in the game still needs 2-3 shots to kill someone at medium distance. It takes twice as long as an Auto Rifle. Shotguns are not overpowered. It's just people not being able to handle the fact that some things one shot you.

Go make a list of everything that can one shot you and I guarantee you there are a lot of people that will say all of it is overpowered. If you got one shot by a shotgunner, you messed up. It's really that simple.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I understand that one shot kills are designed to be part of the game and I think they should be. I am also not complaining about shotguns killing me too much, in fact it's quite the opposite. I kill people from like 7-10 feet away in one shot with the shotgun I have, and it feels like too far.

I don't know your history with bungie games or what multiplayer shooters you're used to, but some of the shotguns in Destiny kill at twice the range of Halo's shotgun. That may be an acceptable range for a more "authentic" (in very heavy quotes) shooter like COD or Battlefield where it typically takes less time to kill people and positioning and mobility are less important than who fires first, but for the style of play the crucible seems designed around shotguns should only be viable in super close quarters.

The precision damage nerf on auto rifles is insane. I agree that Auto Rifles were too powerful, but you would expect a stability nerf to be enough. Also not happy about the shotgun nerf. Those things are already useless beyond 2 feet from your target.

Also, I was under the impression that Thorn would receive a buff? Guess I read it wrong.

If you have a shotgun that has range bonuses and spec accordingly you can get a stupidly long one shot kill out of it. I have a random blue shotgun that I use only for crucible that can one shot from crazy distances, it's really OP.

I think it's kind of shitty that Auto Rifles are getting nerfed, when they aren't that powerful to begin with when compared to some Fusion Rifles and Shotguns. Also, the way they keep reducing places where you can farm is stupid, meaning you have to roam around all over the map more in order to do certain bounties.

I'm generally in the Jeff Gerstmann school of balancing: When possible, boost the other stuff to the level of what's overpowered instead of nerfing the stuff you regard as overpowered.

But that just lowers the kill times for everything and completely changes the entire pvp sandbox. Scout rifles have been taking too long to kill and auto rifles are too quick. This patch should hopefully bring them both back towards a middle ground. If they just buffed everything that was underpowered rather than adjusting the whole sandbox balance the game would just become call of duty at some point where everyone dies in three bullets.

I've run the raid a bunch of times, but I've certainly run into some troubles finding that fifth or sixth person to fill out the team, so more duders on my friends list willing to raid is certainly welcome. Just send me a friend request on PS4 with giant bomb in the message and expect to get an invite if you're on the next time I'm setting up a raid.

If I had to choose one thing about this game that is absolutely inexcusable, it would be how you have to have "special" legendary gear to get to level 30. That is so incredibly stupid, it almost puts me at a loss for words, but I'll try to find some anyway. Forcing everyone to funnel into the vault of glass to get the same gear just to get to level 30 is lazy design. On top of that, you're still at the mercy of the almighty RNG trolls when it comes to the Raid gear actually dropping, as it is not a guaranteed reward.

I can forgive a lot about this game, since it is just so fun to play (by which I mean shoot stuff), but mechanics like this are just idiotic. It already takes enough time to just get enough ascendant shards to upgrade the regular legendary gear. There's no reason to force people to do the vault of glass, especially when it requires 6 people, and there's no matchmaking. I'll never be able to do this unless they add matchmaking. Thanks Bungie, for locking 90% of the player base out of content that is needed to advance in a game with already limited content.

This is a good post, though, with a lot of good information. I just needed to vent for a second. I really hate how you have to get raid gear, and it's still just legendary. They should have made it a different color like in other games that shows it's a set. Anyway, good post.

I'm sure there are plenty of Giant Bomb duders that would be glad to run the vault with you. If you give your PSN name I'd be happy to send you an invite next time I'm setting up a raid.

FES is all about manipulating your teammates into doing what you want them to and knowing how to use the limited the commands at your disposal to achieve the desired results. I certainly prefer the the Persona 4 style of direct control, but I enjoyed P3's battles as well.

As someone that is one piece of raid armor away from level 30 I already knew all this, but this is an excellent roadmap for those that had no idea where to begin with the Destiny's post 20 content. Fantastic post.
