@KingBroly: It is not that much of a mystery. The PS1 compatabilty was acheived through some very simple software emulation. On models that had PS2 back compat, this was acheived by actually including the relevant PS2 chips in the PS3 instead of writing emulation software, which Sony apparently feels is too difficult and time consuming to do for too little payoff. The earliest PS3s had full compat due to having complete PS2 chipsets. Then you got 'gimped' models that had some of the necessary chips, and a bit of software to get some titles to run, much like the 360 situation. Then finally the PS2 chips were deleted altogether, and BC was gone, as they show little interest in coming up with a full blown emulator. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have shown any interest in developing BC any further than they already have. And although not quite as convenient, used PS2s are dirt cheap anyway.....
Remember too that at the end of Mass Effect 1, you had essentially gone rogue, stealing the Normandy with Captain Anderson's help after the Council decided to pull you off the Saren/Reaper chase...so there was not really miltary protocols against fraternization then either. It may have been tacky, but not outright illegal to be with crew members then. Let alone now with Cerberus....  My female Shephard had been with Liara in the first game, but after the chilly reception she gives you in ME2  along with female Shepards not being able to get with Miranda, it means my Shephard is going to have to be taking care of business herself for a while :)
Splosion Man was supposed to be the first game that was to have it as an in game award. It has been on hold for a couple months now, and Twisted Pixel has said it is not on their end - they are ready to go. So for whatever reason, MS is sitting on this for now. As an aside, a video was shot by Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb where he was set on fire to promote this....and the video has not aired with the support not rolling out, even though the video was done over the summer.
Unfortunate for the people that lost their jobs, but not really surprising. These guys were just not big enough to survive having several indifferently reviewed and poor selling games come out together.
Got to agree with pretty much everyone else - why bother if it has no new features other than being a little bit smaller? Physical size of the console is certainly not one of my big issues with the system....
Came out at a poor time. And since it is not a sequel to an established title, have frag a second multiplayer or t-bagging, it does not surprise me this game did poorly. Saddens me, but not surprising at all. And for the amount of hype, Little Big Planet has done pretty poorly for the amount of attention it got. Less than 400K copies moved in a month and a half....
I have finished Ascension now, and it was a good, quick read as well. The only thing I would complain about is that it had to refer to the events of the Mass Effect game generically. For example, most people are aware that there is a decision you make near the end of the game that affects what ending you get. While the book refers to the battle at the Citadel and Captain Anderson, it does not commit to or detail one ending or the other as being the 'real' one. I know this is so that the book will 'fit' with a player's experience, but it feel a little insubstantial in the end. And Shepard is only referred to generically, as everyone's Shepard is different....still it was worth it for a nice read, and there are some recurring characters from Revelation, and it gives more details of life in the Quarian Migrant Fleet....
