Welcome Ethan!

The people here are nice, so hopefully your days at GiantBomb will end up being more fruitful than what happened at MyIGN. :)

1. Guy is busy doing his thing, probably having a rough time at his job.

2. Guy meets girl for only a moment, she may be into him a little bit, but more likely than not she's hesitant about him.

3. Good news! Apparently they are forced to enjoy each other's company through some activity!

4. Girl starts to come around, was she wrong about this guy? Could this be true love?

5. Guy screws up in some fashion.

6. Guy realizes his mistake and makes a dramatic apology (possibly with music/montage). Girl accepts it. It IS true love!

7. Everyone's happy (except that weird dude you saw 3 times in the movie, he's a dick and got what was coming to him!)

I like it when RomComs deviate from this formula :D

I played 999 when it was released. I wasn't entirely sure about it at first. But man, was that one strange and cool game at the same time. I guess I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that this game actually tried to be something new and quircky. It's not just the execution of the writing that is great, there's something genuinly different about it. Sequel fatigue is often discussed, but genre fatigue is where it's at! Entire genres lose my interest if they do not display some sort of innovation.

Idea: Discuss what truly differentiaties one game from another.

Good video to counter balance Patrick and these 8 girls opinion:

Oh, excellent video, I completely agree with that guy.

Now to add some fuel to the flame and address sexism! Can we please start objectifying men in video games already? I'm not talking about power-fantasies. More like full-blown steamy man-whoring. With any luck it will result in either of two solutions.

1. We (the men) will get bored/uncomfortable with it and ask developers to stop putting it in their games. At this point we can no longer ignore the women who are basically asking for the same thing and we'll just have to agree to get rid of sex in videogames altogether. A tear will be shed for the loss of virtual boobs.

2. We (the men) somehow manage to stomach all the man-meat in videogames, figuring virtual boobies are worth it. This, of course, proves our point that objectifying isn't always all that bad and everyone ends up happy and/or uncomfortable.

You're welcome!

There's also plenty of "Oh, it's so hard being a woman in the gaming industry, because I'm so attractive. All the guys want to date me. I get so much attention. It's like, really hard."

No... not really that at all. More like "I am constantly being inappropriately propositioned by people in a professional setting that would be totally unacceptable if I where in any other industry. If I bring it up, I'm an uptight bitch or a lawsuit waiting to happen."

You have a point and I don't disagree that that's inappropriate behavior. But it's not at all exclusive to the gaming industry. My point however, is that while this type of inappropriate behavior can be annoying, tough or insulting, it is miles away from things such as not hiring a woman because "she doesn't know anything about videogames", or not taking her game-ideas seriously based on the fact that she's a woman. The seperation between these two things, I believe, is very important if you do not want to polarize the community. I think many people are faced with inappropriate behavior in their working environment. They deal with it somehow, some people are more resilient than others so it's a different experience for everyone. Opinions about how to best deal with it (More focus! - vs - Suck it up!) are divided and personal. I don't think that behavior that prevents women from getting hired or doing their jobs (even though they are clearly qualified) is viewed with nearly the same amount of division.

This issue needs clarity.

There's plenty of legit sexist behavior examples in there. Vagina in the room? I doubt there's many people that would disagree that being sexist.

There's also plenty of "Oh, it's so hard being a woman in the gaming industry, because I'm so attractive. All the guys want to date me. I get so much attention. It's like, really hard."

One of these two is a serious issue, the other is not. The notion that men being attracted to female game developers would be sexist, is rediculous. The serious issue that does exist, gets muddled this way and it's why people react so strongly to this topic.
