I know Miyamoto has always expressed disdain for achievements, but I consider him to be one of the main progenitors in achievement-centric gaming behaviour. I spent a large amount of my childhood exhausting Nintendo's 1st party games with self-imposed challenges. Hack every single bush, bump every tree, bomb every wall and dig every spot of earth in Link's Awakening. Beat Super Mario Bros 3 in the fewest levels possible getting warp whistles. Do the same without warp whistles. Scan every single nook and crany of Super Metroid, shoot everything with every type of weapon. Beat rainbow road with koopa troopa and without releasing the acceleration.

You can say that there is no need for a formal achievement system to quantify this type of gaming. But the feeling I get from looking at my inventory in Link to the Past, with everything fully upgraded, all the bottles and every item, or from getting all those warp whistles, or from unlocking all those staff ghosts, that scratches the same itch that looking at a s-ranked/platinumed trophy list does for me.

I remember Dana White's comments in 2009, heheh.

I find this kinda weird, if UFC 3 did poor, and EA MMA was dead on arrival at retail, I wonder what EA's expectations are? Maybe they are going to have a big marketing push, but I won't be picking it up. Since Genki Sudo retired, in my mind MMA is now and forever associated with the last scene of Bruno and a bro fanbase that screams anguished denials about the homoeroticism of their favoured sport :)

I don't see why people are getting so blown away by 1313, and I really don't get the way people are bandwagoning praise onto it like a case of mass hysteria.

Maybe this is an issue with watching the video over the internet and it is more impressive when you see it in person, but people are acting like this is the 1995 N64 tech demos or the 2003 Halo 2 demo. More importantly than the graphical fidelity, the content appears to be Star Wars trying to be Uncharted. Well, I love Uncharted, but Star Wars remains dead to me and this just does not inspire me.

I do not think this looks "next gen". Perhaps some people are so desperate for PS3/720 that they are seeing a level of technology where there is none, like with the reaction to Watch Dogs?

I enjoyed Reckoning, Dead Kel and Teeth of Naros. Don't know that I was on board for an MMO, but certainly would've liked to see another single player game. Hope all those affected land on their feet.

Still at 1%. I ran installer as admin, I disabled antivirus, I ensured the requisite services are enabled and running, I am well acquainted with fussy installations. I have 7.6GB of data sitting on a disc in my DVD drive waiting to install, but it is just sitting there. I think the installer is waiting on the blizzard servers for some kind of go ahead, and is stuck because of congestion. It has downloaded the 65MB of patches needed for the EU English install, but they are just sitting there.

I may do a Vinny and install Diablo 1 or 2 off the thumb drive and play that while I wait...

Got home, unboxed my collector's edition, registered my key, started installation, it's been stuck at 1% for 30 minutes...

Bad business decisions all around. Microsoft are not swaying any format decisions at this stage. I don't know if they did in the first place, given I bought (and platinumed in spite of the bugs) the PS3 version, and intend to get GotY PC version in a Steam sale at some point. Anyone who did not pick up Skyrim yet s probably waiting for a GotY edition or does not care.

I would appreciate my XBL Gold money going toward original titles instead of depriving other formats of timed DLCs for Skyrim and CoD, which I will not get on 360. I don't see this as Microsoft bringing something to XBL users for their money, I see it as Microsoft incoveniencing PSN and PC users... Two months left on the three month gold sub I bought on offer for £2, after letting it lapse for over a year, and I doubt I will be re-upping when it expires. I am becoming more and more disgusted at the ad-ridden 360 dash and what you get for the gold service. Steam, PSN and especially PSN+ are serving me significantly better than XBL right now.

I also think Bethesda builds up animosity from PC and PS3 users through this, and any marketing will either have to be done twice, or will only really impact with 360 users. They will actively lose some PC and PS3 revenue because of this.
