I just watched the trailer for the new show Cosmos: A Space Time Oddessy, and Neil deGrasse Tyson should and needs to be in a Mass Effect game. In the trailer, particularly from 1:36 min on ward, he looks like the Elusive Man.

I can see him as some oracle parked in an outpost poised at the edge of a black hole's event horizon. You pull up in the Normandy with Joker at the helm. You select your squad and make your way into the station to listen to Neil deGrasse talk science, the universe, and death by black holes.

Error Message On Start:

To fix the error message, you need to find your "X.exe" file in the directory that you installed the game. Once there you want to set the compatibility to "Windows 7."

Start by right-clicking on the "X.exe" file and selecting "Properties" from the pop-up menu. In the "Properties window, at the top select the "Compatibility" tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for", and select "Windows 7" from the drop down menu.

It's not required, but you can also check the box "Run this program as administrator." just in case this helps fix any other problems. I have this unchecked because my Steam is installed in a custom location.

Run X:Byeond the Frontier and see if this fixes the error message that appearing when starting the game.

Screen Clipping at Top and Bottom:

This tip is not a fix, but a heads-up about the game. I have a 1920x1080 resolution monitor, so when I started the game I set the resolution from the starting 640x480 to my monitor's native resolution. I quickly noticed that a good portion of the top and bottom of the screen was being clipped off screen.

The sad part about this is that it's not an easy fix. X:Beyond the Frontier was designed for a 4:3 ratio screen and it cannot adapter to other screen ratios. The oly way to fix this is to use a 4:3 resolution.

I bought the X-series while is was on sale a little while back on HumbeBundle. I'm still playing though X:Beyond the Frontier at the moment. I hope these tips help other quickly get the game up and running. :)

I feel as though I've lost a best friend. A friend that many of us have not had the privilege to have met, but through knowing him from his time at Gamespot to his unforgettable work at Giant Bomb, have ultimately grown close to. There is a hole in my heart that I will do my best to fill with all the wonderful memories Ryan has left us.

@kinggiddra: Thanks for setting things up. I started back in '05 but dropped off. Now I've booted things back up with a new character. I'm looking forward to having fun with some fellow duders. I'm going to hit up the "giantbomb" chat channel tonight and see if I can find the Kite Co. Space Truckers information.

See ya in the game.

There is way to much boo-hoo-ing at the head of all of these comments. I'm excited to see the Homeworld license going to Gearbox. I want to see a re-release of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 on Steam or GOG.com. If Gearbox can take the first step and bring the games to modern distribution platforms, they will have already done a great service to Homeworld.

I don't know what Gearbox will do next with it, but this time Homeworld and Homeworld 2 are not half-finished games with no hope like Aliens: Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever.

I just bought Mass Effect 3 for the first time during the Origin anniversary sale in Japan. I really don't know how to feel that my experience will never involve the original ending possibly.

It is like the episode in ST:Voyager where all of the crew's memory was erased except the doctors. Then the crew starts to see clues that lead them to discovering that their memories have been tampered with.

That's the best way i can sum how i feel up.

There is no arrogance in this. This is the Japanese market. It's not shocking that Japan's and the US's markets are different. Japanese gamers just accept the cost. Patrick mention before, in the bombcast, how games are A LOT more expensive here in Japan. He is right.

The game market and gamers in Japan are happy to just get the same game with its janky controls and marginal improvements

Earlier this year I was saddened to see that Monster Hunter is destined for the 3DS, not the Vita. They are not adding anything worth paying the price for buying. In many cases is a downgrade from the previous PSP game.

Japanese gamers will still pay. The real question is if Sony will expect the same from the US and European markets, the ones that matter

Well it hasn't come out here in Japan on steam till Dec. 8th, so I have some time to see if they fix those bugs.
