Error Message On Start:
To fix the error message, you need to find your "X.exe" file in the directory that you installed the game. Once there you want to set the compatibility to "Windows 7."
Start by right-clicking on the "X.exe" file and selecting "Properties" from the pop-up menu. In the "Properties window, at the top select the "Compatibility" tab, check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for", and select "Windows 7" from the drop down menu.
It's not required, but you can also check the box "Run this program as administrator." just in case this helps fix any other problems. I have this unchecked because my Steam is installed in a custom location.
Run X:Byeond the Frontier and see if this fixes the error message that appearing when starting the game.
Screen Clipping at Top and Bottom:
This tip is not a fix, but a heads-up about the game. I have a 1920x1080 resolution monitor, so when I started the game I set the resolution from the starting 640x480 to my monitor's native resolution. I quickly noticed that a good portion of the top and bottom of the screen was being clipped off screen.
The sad part about this is that it's not an easy fix. X:Beyond the Frontier was designed for a 4:3 ratio screen and it cannot adapter to other screen ratios. The oly way to fix this is to use a 4:3 resolution.
I bought the X-series while is was on sale a little while back on HumbeBundle. I'm still playing though X:Beyond the Frontier at the moment. I hope these tips help other quickly get the game up and running. :)
