Played over 200 hours of the multiplayer but the single player is not very good compared to the average 90s FPS game, it's difficult for me to understand why everyone is so completely wrong about this game.

I dislike quite a few things about Doom 4's singleplayer, but I can't understand how multiplayer is anything but adequate. It's like someone took multiplayer of original Doom (nothing really to write home about in the first place) and then put it through Halo filter, it's not appealing.

Hell, Doom 3 had better multiplayer than this.

I felt that Doom's campaign was such a bore and I struggled to find the motivation to get through it around release. I think I finished it over a couple months of on and off playing. Earlier this year I decided to try it again because there are aspects to like, but the main thing that turned me off in the first place, and the thing everyone seemed to love was the shooting. So, I played it through on Nightmare and I thought it was superb.

Maybe it's not the best shooter ever made, or in the past ten years (that's hard to say), but just about everything it does it does well. Every little detail works well together. The biggest issue I ended up finding was that there are some no points of return, so you might not be able to get every collectible on the first go. Fortunately, if you really want them (which I didn't after I finished the game because I finished the game), you can jump back into any stage and get them with all your stuff.

Expected from the quick look. I'm going to start the campaign (which is the only thing I'll play from the game unless I play splitscreen online with my brother). I hope I enjoy it even if it is uninspired. If it does turn out to not be great, that'll be disappointing considering the two lead guys made Dead Space (which I just found out earlier this year honestly), which is one of my favorite games ever made. Lastly, is there anyone here that actually got the game and is enjoying it, and not just for the multiplayer?

Edit - Never mind. I played through six levels. The game is a bore and fails to impress on any level really other than perhaps visuals which is pretty good. COD has had its ups and downs to me with its campaigns and I'll finish this one, but it's the first COD campaign that I am actually thinking to myself 'Nah, I think I'm okay if I don't finish this one.' Well, okay, I didn't finish three.

This game has no emotional attachment to the events or characters; they just plop you into a battle and go from one fight to another for the most part. There's a lot of archaic feeling aspects too. For instance, I'm kind of tired of seeing NPC's just stand there gesturing as if they're conversing, and yet their faces are expressionless; there's a lot of that in this.

As for gameplay, it just plays like old COD. The characters are generic archetypes and moments and dialogue make me roll my eyes and shake my head. The soundtrack is also not very exciting. It's very plain, unfortunately. Maybe something will change in the last several levels to go, but it doesn't really matter at this point.

Super Mario Odyssey was good. Probably not going to be in my top five of the year though. Also, the co-op works just fine if you're working with someone that wants to help, and in some cases is beneficial, like the volleyball match. I wouldn't want to be the hat myself though. Wolfenstein is fantastic. It has one of the best stories I've experienced in a while with characters I feel for, and I think the gameplay is great.

The arcade thing in this reminds me of what's in Wolfenstein, which is super cool and fitting for that world. Also, the big Normandy mission was from Frontline.

I think Alex may have gotten Rogue and Liberation mixed up? I went back to Assassin's Creed 3 and Unity earlier this year and actually enjoyed them more. I either discovered that I did very little in Unity aside from the story, or they put in a lot more content since I played it before.

For instance, something mentioned in this video by Abby was Syndicate's investigative missions where you seek out clues and talk to suspects to find a murderer; Unity had the same exact thing to my surprise and it was no different. The game ran more smoothly than I remember it, and I enjoyed exploring the world.

I didn't finish the story again but did a lot more of the side quests before moving on.

It's actually a bad time (although a great time to play games) for this to release. I am really invested in KOTOR now. I've had it on Steam but couldn't get into it, either because I wasn't into the mouse and keyboard controls despite them still being fine, and/or because the game took time to get it working at the best it can (which, wasn't that much time). Now on BC, I've gotten farther than I ever had and am into it, wanting to finish it.

After that, maybe getting two and going through that. I also kind of want to go through Prince of Persia, as the little I played of it on there felt great making me realize I may not have given it enough chance in the past (I also instantly realized how influential Super Mario 64 was, as there are quite a few similarities between the platforming). That compiled with the fact Odyssey, Wolfenstein and Assassin's Creed Origins is out, and me going out of town so I won't be playing any games for a few days kind of sucks.

Ah. I never listen to this podcast (sorry), but it's awesome to see a timestamp! I wish the other podcasts would do that too.

@humanity: Not sure if that's sarcasm or not, but just in case, to be clear, it's the video (or Ben playing the game with a much lower brightness setting than necessary, or suggested.)
