@retris: Holm can appeal the loss all she wants but she doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell at winning. I'm not a big fan of shots after the bell, especially when they are clearly some of the biggest shots the offending fighter lands, but unfortunately there is no actual rule against hitting your opponent after the bell. The bell is actually only an signal to the referee to call a stop to the action. Any strike that lands after the bell but prior to the ref stopping the round is technically still legal. It's why the have the 10 second warning. When you hear that the real pro refs immediately move into position to stop the fight and are seriously on top of that shit.

Big John has actually been talking about this on twitter a lot recently and he explains that the whole reason he sticks his arm right between the fighters is that he can visually tell if a shot is truly late. For him if his elbow is not fully straightened out when a punch goes over it then he lets it go. If it is straight he uses his judgement to determine if a warning, point deduction, or disqualification is warranted.

It's a bummer that poor referee skill clearly contributed to Holm's loss but if I was her I wouldn't even waste my time with an appeal, I'd just be campaigning like crazy to get an immediate rematch.

I've always been a big rum and coke fan but in the middle of university I went on a pretty big Sprite/7up and spiced rum kick.

I started with spear and dual swords. I dropped the swords pretty quickly and picked up the kusarigama. I eventually realized that I was basically always using the kusarigama against standard enemies, then always using the spear for bosses. I wound up using a respec and went hard into the sword with a bit of spears and now I almost exclusively use a the single sword. It just feels, right.

After 3 days I'd go:

  1. Scorch
  2. Tone
  3. Ronin
  4. Legion
  5. Ion
  6. Northstar

I found myself immediately drawn to Scorch and Tone, they are easily my 2 most played. The crazy thing is I still barely use shield based abilities so I feel like Scorch has way more potential that I'm going to start trying to take advantage of.

I could see myself swapping Ronin and Legion at some point, I bet I;m probably riding high on Ronin right now cause I had 2 or 3 games of Attrition where I just crushed using Ronin. I really dig the mobility but I do generally lean toward durability over mobility.

Also Ion and Northstar are placed where they are based off of less than 5 matches of use each. I liked Ion against pilots and AI but I wasn't fond of it vs other Titans. Northstar was kind of cool but I must be missing something because outside of the primary weapon I didn't really dig anything about the other abilities. If I happened to be at a distance it was fun but generally I prefer being mid range and I found using the long range version of Legion to be a little more efficient since I didn't feel screwed when someone got closer.

I do really feel like I need to give those two a better chance. Also I need to get a better grasp on the energy system for Ion.

@starvinggamer:

(I could totally understand how you could interpret what I wrote here as sarcasm, especially since we can't hear each others tones but please do know that I don't intend this to be read like I have a snarky, sarcastic tone)

Boy this sure seems like a good old fashioned clash of opinions. One of those things where you state an opinion on something, someone feels the need to respond in an attempt to negate your opinion, which doesn't really work, and then you wind up in some huge cycle of posting back and forth trying to change each others minds which will never happen. I posted my opinion, unwisely decided to explain myself further when questioned (a key step in this whole process), and now I will be stepping away from this.

Luckily I'm allowed to dislike their practices and you're allowed to have no issue with them.

If you want to read a small article about this whole backfire effect check it out: Why you can't win an argument on the internet

I hope you have a nice night!

@starvinggamer: I don't have a problem with some cosmetic DLC in games but this seems excessive. Especially when they set a precedent with costume and stage prices and then blow those out of the water. It was $2 for skin swapped stages and $4 for new stages, now it's $10 for this new one. It was $4 for the costumes that you couldn't unlock with fight money, now these new ones are $6.

Also I have way less of a problem with a game with a $0 entry fee charging for cosmetic stuff than one that costs $70 up front.

Oh and to compare this game to MKX in Mortal Kombat you pay $2 for the individual costumes that supported their tournament scene. They had skin packs where you got 3 skins for $4 and most of those packs were bundled with Kombat Packs anyways, not changing the price.

I know I don't have to buy cosmetic stuff, and in fact I don't believe I've ever spent real money on a cosmetic item unless it's been bundling with something bigger, but sometimes it just feels slimey to me when I look at prices and this is one of those times.

On top of all of that I dislike a lot of the way they've been handling things in general when it comes to issues with the game (DLC coming late, being more worried about banning people for cheating to get colours than they are about fixing rage quitting/frame delay) and I am definitely not the only one.

Don't get me wrong I am enjoying the game so far but I do have some big problems with the way they have been prioritizing things.

edit: another issue I have is that this is a company that released a $15 pack that included 5 characters and 4 stages for AE. As time goes on they are steadily decreasing what they give you while increasing the price.

Yeah the "micro"transactions in SF5 are kind of disgusting. There is no way to justify the price of some of this stuff. Also there's something about having a "mystery costume" included in a pack that expensive that I dislike.

@tobbrobb: Canada/PS4 here.

I've been treating hit confirms kind of like I do in MK, and that part has been working out decently for me. Thanks for the clarification though.
