Mini reviews of every game i've played

What i liked and hated the most about the games i beat. Excluding games i've dropped. Compilations not counting as games (except for those which collect smaller games, like Metal Slug Anthology, or drastically change their games, like Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls). It's more or less in the order that i played them, but sometimes there's games i forgot about that i add later on. Not going in depth on games i played a long time ago and can't remember well.

  • -This is the first game i've ever played. I have no memories with any other games before this, so that must be true. This was so much fun back then, even though i was 3/4 and didn't know the controls very well.

    PLATFORM:SNES

  • -I have never been a fan of this game, almost didn't play it, because i prefered Donkey Kong. Have no memories with this one.

    PLATFORM:SNES

  • -Beat it. Remember it being amazing, very nostalgic, and damn do i miss this game.

    SCORE: 8/10

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -This was MY game when i was a kid. I loved everything about it, and i played it all the time, it was basically my Crash Bandicoot. Beaten.

    SCORE: 7.5/10

    PLATFORM:PS

  • A very solid and fluid action game; one of the main examples of a pixel art game in which the artistic design is perfectly in tune with the gameplay and tone, which are both amazing as well. Very memorable characters, moments, and witty humor that's missing in games nowadays.

    PROS:

    -Stellar sprite animation

    -ROCK SOLID shooting mechanics

    -Great characters and style

    CONS:

    -Outdated difficulty balance

-(PS version)Too easy with infinite continues

    SCORE: 7/10

    PLATFORM:PS

  • Functions as a good remake and still feels kind of fresh.

    PROS:

    -Fleshed out sprite animations

    CONS:

    -Same difficulty spikes

    SCORE: 7/10

    PLATFORM:PS

  • A stellar action platformer, that while not having the best combat system in the world -let alone in the series- , it makes up for it with inventiviness in the level and boss design, with stealth mechanics that blend effortlessly with the action.

    PROS:

    -Great level and enemy design

    -Varied gameplay that encourages creativity

    -Way ahead of its time

    CONS:

    -Corny voice acting

    -A little too short

    SCORE: 8/10

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Damn, one boss at a time, man. I have fond memories of this, even though i found it hard as hell and have never been good at it.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Played very little of it, was too much for me at the time. Plan to replay it!

    PLATFORM:PS(Final Fantasy Chronicles)

  • This game is perfect. Everything about this game just works, and it needs no changes. The graphics, the story, the gameplay, the characters, the presentation, the soundtrack, the post game content with its revolutionary New Game+, the replay value with its 13 endings. Few, if not any other game has achieved such perfection in game design. I played the PS version with the huge loadtimes, but the game is just so good it wasn't even a problem.

    PROS:

-Overarching narrative that makes you feel like you're in the world's biggest epic

    -All-around likeable cast

-The best and simplest turn-based combat system in games

    -Akira Toriyama's artstyle

-Great sidequests with cues for worldbulding and character development

-A complete masterpiece of a soundtrack

    -Replay factor(12 endings and a New Game+)

    CONS: None.

    SCORE: Easiest 10/10

    PLATFORM: PS(Final Fantasy Chronicles)/PS3(Psone classics)

  • -Don't remember there even being a 'story' mode which you can beat, actually. It was pretty fun, remember it as the best bomberman interation i've ever played.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Don't remember getting even close to beating this, but remember it being fun as hell.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Same as IV. Still cried at the touching moment, though.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • Mechanically flawed to its core, it's stil enjoyable for the characters and soundtrack alone, despite of the sllipery controls and uninteresting combat. Charming and full of fanservice and fun game modes.

    PROS:

    -A treat for the fans

-Great presentation, with art design decent for the time

    -Fun game modes

    -Nice voice acting and soundtrack

    CONS:

    -Mediocre combat gameplay

    -Difficulty issues

    SCORE: 6/10

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Remember it being really hard, but not impossible. Also very charmful, with a great soundtrack.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -I had a save from my cousin's memory card which was in the last stage, so i never actually had the chance to get to learn the controls, and kept trying to "beat" the game that way. Still, it was fun.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -I never beat it because it's godamn hard, but it's excellent anyways, great soundtrack. Really important to me, as it was one of the first RPG games i ever played.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • -Yeah, i didn't beat it. I had fun with these Mega Man games back then, but i never commited myself to beat them. Such a shame.

    PLATFORM:PS

  • A terrible fighting game with confusing controls and bland, sometimes boring combat, yet with the big name of Dragon Ball to sell it.

    PROS:

    -Badass opening

    -Fanservice

    CONS:

    -Terrible controls

    -Boring and uncreative gameplay

    -Ugly even for the time

    -HORRIBLE AI

    -Strong difficulty issues

-I do have fond memories playing this, beating the game was a real joy back then, but most of these memories are imbued to the fact that i loved everything DB back then.

    SCORE: 3/10

  • Ah the LEGO games. These games, while not very interesting mechanicaly, have so much charm and craft it's unresistable. The Indiana Jones feel of adventure is well replicated on this one.

    PROS:

    -Very addicting collectathon

    -Perfect presentation

    -Really funny at times

    -Great level design

    -Excellent multiplayer

-All the great stuff about Indiana Jones (Great characters, stories, soundtrack by John Williams, etc.)

    CONS:

    -Really easy

    SCORE: 8/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • I'm not sure if i'm qualified to criticize this game properly, because in my head it has always been amazing. It follows the anime's storyline perfectly, with incredible presentation, and it's always a feast for the eyes and ears of a Dragon Ball Z fan. As a game, it doesn't have much more to offer than other fighting games, but as a DBZ title, it reigns supreme.

    PROS:

    -Impressive roster of characters

    -Surprisingly deep combat

-Great soundtrack, very memorable and energetic

    -Excellent voice acting

    -Fluid and fast-paced gameplay

    -Great use of scenary

-Very expansive game for its time, with many game modes.

    CONS:

-Unbalanced game(but that's not really a surprise, is it?)

-Virtually inaccessible for non-fans of the canon

    SCORE: 8.5/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • -Not so sure i bet this legit, i used to use a lot of cheats in emulators back then.

    PLARFORM:"GBA"

  • How well this game holds up is still a controversy, but in my opinion is one of the best Action RPGs ever made. The tight RPG mechanics are very well done and in sync with the fluid combat system; the battles are always exciting. While the story is heavily criticized for its confusing and sometimes pretentious twists, it still has enough charm to keep you invested, not to mention the feature of reliving the great plots of Disney movies. Yet, what really sets this game apart for me is its presentation; the levels, music, characters and graphics are so heart warming and nostalgic that playing the game feels like going through a big journey, where emotional attachment and nostalgia play a big role; a feeling very hard to replicate in video games. Truly a gem, despite all the flaws.

    PROS:

    -A masterpiece of presentation

-A chance to re-experience some of the best animated movies of all time

    -Almost perfect gameplay; always fun

    -Great progression

    -Lots of features and side-quests

    -Engaging story

    CONS:

    -Confusing plot

    -Pretentiousness

-Some of the fanservice is kinda forced

    -Annoying characters

    SCORE: 10/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • A huge improvement and a huge step down at the same time. While it improved a lot the presentation of the first game, establishing the visual identity that would appear in later entries of the series, it is also way more pompous and pretentious, really embracing the JRPG/Final Fantasy vibe. The gameplay is also way better, with a variety of new features and movesets, yet new annoyingly bad characters and character arcs have also been introduced. Basically for every single thing that got better, another got worse, so that makes the game fairly even with the original.

    PROS:

-Even better presentation, with a distinct visual identity.

    -Tighter and more exciting gameplay

    -Lots and lots of content

    -Very interesting Roxas storyline

    CONS:

-Some of the "family friendly" vibe is lost

    -Some terrible character development

    -Soap opera feel(oh so epic)

    -Way too easy

    SCORE: 9.5/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • Still a great series, with still awesome level design and everything else. The great atmosphere of the Tim Burton Batman movie is well replicated.

    PROS:

    -Very addicting collectathon

    -Excellent multiplayer

    -Great atmosphere

-Very true to the source material

    -Great fanservice for Batman fans

    -The classic Danny Elfman soundtrack

    CONS:

    -Almost too easy

-The controls in the vehicle levels are terrible

    SCORE: 8/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • -Remember it being pretty fun to build your own car and drive around the city. The controls were awful, but damn, did the idea have potential. Retro charm is all over the place in this one.

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • LEGO games gameplay, always good. Excellent SW game, the soundtrack is as good as always, and the cutscenes are funny retellings of the original movies with some twists.

    PROS:

    -Some great level design

    -Excellent multiplayer

-All the great stuff from Star Wars(Great characters, style, soundtrack by John Williams, etc.)

    CONS:

-Too many collectibles, it kinda feels overwhelming

    -Obviously too easy

    SCORE: 7/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • One of the best fighting games i've ever played, its psychedelic graphics and fast pacing make the fights exciting even while playing alone. Sometimes it gets a little on the unbalanced side -specially in the story mode- when you can make an overpowered team and destroy everyone with their specials, but it is an enjoyable ride altogether.

    PROS:

    -Gorgeous pixelated graphics

    -Excellent and addicting gameplay

-Perfect presentation, with awesome stages, cameos and audio cues to give a nod to each of the universes in the game

    -Amazing soundtrack

    CONS:

    -Maybe a little unbalanced

    SCORE:8.5/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • -Infinite continues. Didn't beat them all, i guess.

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • It is enjoyable altogether, with the notoriously excelellent Mega Man gameplay, some variation in the gameplay that is completely welcome, and a story so damn cheesy it's laughable.

    PROS:

    -Solid gameplay

-Variety; all the 3 characters have a different feel

    -Some great level design

    -Very challenging

    CONS:

    -Laughable story and dialog

-The X gameplay is kinda clunky, it makes the game harder

    -Kinda dated graphics

    SCORE:7/10

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • -Gotta beat this again. So, so good. Have no idea why this is so underrated.

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • -Mediocre movie tie-in. Kinda began my aversion to all 3D platformers not made by Nintendo or Sega.

    PLATFORM:PS2

  • Decent fighting game, excellent adventure game. Its Zelda-esque open world, with many places to explore, characters to unlock, techniques to learn, and dungeon crawling, is fantastic. The fighting mechanics are very interesting, specially the ones combining two characters's techniques. Really underrated gem.

    PROS:

-A sprawling open world with a lot of Naruto-related quests

-A lot of collectibles; and ways to make them WORTH GETTING

-All the great stuff Naruto is famous for (Great soundtrack, interesting characters, themes...)

    CONS:

-Doesn't have much going on as a fighting game in terms of replayability, specially compared to others in the genre (SF, MK, or even Dragon Ball Budokai)

    PROS:

-Some really great level design, fun tracks to go through

    CONS:

    -Pathetic story

    -Awful characters

    -Cringeworthy voice acting

-Clunky and glitchy gameplay that kinda breaks the game sometimes

    SCORE: 6/10

  • The zero gravity mechanic was really nice, great for a change of pace. Yet, the rest is complete garbage, specially the bland level design.

    PROS:

    -Nice zero gravity gimmick

    CONS:

    -Offensively bad story

    -Annoyingly awful characters

    -STILL cringeworthy acting

    -EVEN WORSE gameplay

    -Terrible level design

-An overall bland feel to it

    SCORE: 4/10

    PROS:

-A masterpiece of presentation; everything to the sound effects, to the characters, to the graphics transmit an unmistakable lighthearted feel that's very cozy and comfortable.

    -Really addicting minigames

-Great progression and pacing in the adventure mode

    -Endlessly replayable

-Complete with a nice interation of the classic Bomberman game; which includes local and online play

    CONS:

    -Maybe too short?

  • -I should have beaten this, i was so damn close! Fantastic game, this one may be the best version.

    PLATFORM:DS

  • Somehow not as memorable as other Zelda games, but with the same quality. The presentation is remarkable, and the gameplay has some interesting uses of the touch screen. Overall a decent action-adventure game with a lot of charm and character, and some very memorable moments.

    PROS:

    -Great combat and dungeons

    -Decent story

    -Amazing sea exploration aspect

-Good use of the touch screen, makes for a good change of pace

    CONS:

    -Not very memorable

    PROS:

    -Excellent creative minigames

    -Great party game(obviously)

    -Very well made story mode

    -Lots of collectibles and content

    CONS:

-Somewhat unpractical for a party game

-The game may become boring after beating the story mode

    SCORE:7/10

    PLATFORM:DS

  • It actually works. Great minigames, excellent representations of each sport. A nice passtime.

    PROS:

-The novelty of the concept actually working

-It's a fun little minigame collection game

    CONS:

-Plays too safe; game is too simple

-Sometimes the controls don't work very well

    SCORE:6.5/10

  • -It was great, but for some reason i didn't beat it. The babies were annoying indeed.

    PLATFORM:DS

  • I was surprised with how great the concept is. Very addicting, unique and fun. The story mode and the characters are hilarious. Excellent use of the touch screen. There should be much more games like this.

    PROS:

    -Very interesting characters and style

    -Addictingly fun microgames gameplay

-Gets really challenging after a while

    CONS:

    -Very short

-Obviously not very deep in the gameplay aspect

    SCORE:8/10

    PLATFORM:DS

  • The whole concept and style of parodying old school horror movies is already charmful and hilarious, but when it's packed with stellar tower defense gameplay, a sea of post game content, and memorable 'characters', it becomes a true strategy game classic.

    PROS:

    -Excellent presentation

    -Stellar gameplay

    -Very intuitive and accessible

    -Very memorable experience altogether

    -Lots of content

    CONS:

    -Sometimes a bit too simplistic

    SCORE:8.5/10

    PROS:

    -Fun story

    -Decent level design

    -Classic Sonic Advance gameplay

    CONS:

    -Overly linear level design

    -Pointless Jet-Ski sections

    SCORE:7.5/10

    PLATFORM:DS

  • Not much different from the first, and that's fine. The concept is stil novel, and there's a whole new park to explore, new minigames, and still a nice experience, with a nice feel-good vibe.

    PROS:

-All the same ones as the first(Presentation, minigames, battle mode)

    -More Bomberman Land Touch!

    CONS:

    -Too boring on singleplayer mode

    PLATFORM:DS

  • -Played Rush Adventure first, this one felt kinda bland in comparison, so i never finished it.

    PLATFORM:DS

  • Damn, it's Pokémon! The fun aspects of all the previous games are kept here, the Pokémon catch em' all feel of collection, the excellent and complex battle system, the great characters and visual style, and the amazing feel of adventure and wonder. Yet, this game introduces so many new things to the franchise, you might as well call it the best Pokémon game ever made. All the new stuff is very welcome and bring novelty and brighten the experience, specially the online aspect.

    PROS:

-Refined battle system, with double/triple battles and balancing to make it work competitively

-Essentially perfect presentation, with the game changing along with the seasons and the fact that it has some 3D here and there, but keeps its charmful 2D sprites with the new animations; the music is great as always

-Amazing social aspect, with pokémon trades and battles being able to be made at any time with anyone in the world, a dream come true for Pokémon fans

-Actually compelling story, easily the best plot in a pokémon game, the final boss battle is very personal.

    CONS:

    -Kinda bland new pokémon designs

-Too linear for a pokémon game

    SCORE:9/10

    PLATFORM:DS

  • -I want to beat this, it's so good! But it sucks to play it in a keyboard, so i'm either buying an SNES or one of those xbox controllers.

    PLATFORM:"SNES"

  • -Well, i never actually beat it, not sure if i'm qualified to talk about it.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS:Essentially perfect game. Great characters, great story, great atmosphere, great graphics, great soundtrack, great sound effects, great gameplay, great everything. And it's free!! Aside from the technical perfection of the game, it's also made with a lot of love and heart, which makes a big difference in the details, the little things, like the credits of a game made just by a single person. Truly a masterpiece, one of the best indie games of all time.

CONS: Some mechanics of the game are very unclear, leaving you to using guides and such to discover the interactions and their consequences. It's punishingly hard sometimes.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS: Nice little platforming game, with interesting characters and powerups, and great gameplay.

CONS: Yeah, the game is really simple, short, and easy. But what would you expect from a freeware indie game that isn't Cave Story?

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS: The concept. The game is just so original, the idea of the portal gun puzzles was novel, and the execution was perfect. The few characters that it has are memorable, and the narrative is one of the best in any game ever. But what really stands out about this game is its atmosphere and level design. This is one of the great kind of games that really makes you feel inside it, that makes you feel for the charaters, that puts you in that situation, that immerses you in its bizarre setting as if it was an actual place. A masterpiece that will be remembered years to come.

CONS: It's too short. When it's over, you're left wanting more, even though what you had was excellent.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS: If this can actually be called a game, then it's one of my favorites. It has hands down the best story i've ever experienced in a video game, everything is so well put together and clever, the characters are incredible, the dialog is excellent, and the soundtrack is just beautiful. It's one of the most emotional, touching, heart-warming and brilliant stories i've experienced in any form of media.

CONS: A story this brilliant deserves much more attention. This form of interactive storytelling does work, but it restricts the game only to, well, gamers. The plot's strongest point is its accessiblity and universality, and puting it in a video game does hurt it a little, as it would be ignored by most audiences. It would work perfectly as a PG-13 movie, for example, or maybe a TV series.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS: The game is compelling, has nice graphics, good gameplay and great interactivity with other players. Like Minecraft before it, it allows you to be creative and build stuff around any way you like. It has a more linear approach, with actual objectives and directions, with many boss battles.

CONS: The game, unlike Minecraft, doesn't allow much freedom. The game tried to please the audiences that thought Minecraft was too redundant, and even questioned if it was actually a game. Then it introduces half-assed boss battles (not that Minecraft didn't have half-assed boss battles already, you're just not compelled to fight them) and made them your objective. There's no actual storyline or explanation as to why you have to defeat the beasts in the game, they're just your objective. The thing about having to build a place to house the NPCs hurts a lot the feeling of building whatever you want and the whole "sanbox" concept, instead it just feels like being a hired architect. As much as the game tries to be its own thing, it feels too much like a Minecraft clone.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • PROS: Really addicting game, plays like an RPG, yet feels like a cookie clicker. The whole idea of playing an actual table RPG game inside a virtual RPG game is great, and it creates very good humor. The D&D style is lovely, it just feels so good to be playing an RPG with such classic and totally cliché RPG elements. Kudos for a brazillian game to have actually won the market, showing that my country is ready to embrace the industry.

CONS: The game is very short indeed, and it leaves you wanting more. The portuguese text has some problems. The post game is basically more clicking, no real challenge.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -Think i'm close to beating this, just lost interest in some point, i guess.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -This seems interesting, very Portal-ish, i'll beat it sometime.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -Didn't do all the endings, so that means i didn't beat it.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -I only beat the first camapign, and it was already hard enough.

    PLATFORM:PC(Megaton edition)

  • -Just like PBG, i got to the civilization stage and totally ran out of gas, the game became just too overwhelming, it's not fun anymore. Maybe i'll get to the space stage one day, but that would take patience.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -Damn, this game's hard. It's hard to conciliate creative design with profitable design, that being the reason people resort to cheat coasters, like those that just go back and forth and make you lots of money.

    PLATFORM:PC(Deluxe)

  • -Once i fix my PC, i'll beat this.

    PLATFORM:PC

  • -Somehow, this didn't click with me, maybe i'll get to it later on.

    PLATFORM:PC(Special Edition)

  • Stellar platforming game, easily one of the best from last gen. Its unique artstyle and characters, mixed with some very creative level design and crisp mechanics make for a modern 2D platforming classic, whose oddball position amongst other modern titles made for a welcome change of pace on the industry in the time it was released. No flashy pre-rendered cutscenes, no overarching story arc, no cutting edge 3D graphics, just an all-around fun time.

    PROS:

    -Inventive and fun level design

    -Distinctive style and characters

    -Simple but effective gameplay mechanics

-Lots of content in the form of characters and stages

    -Downright brilliant musical stages

    CONS:

  • There's something about this game that makes it irresistable. Something about its very concept; a full fledged open fantasy world that just screams ADVENTURE, or the music; a masterpiece by Jeremy Soule, or the sheer amount of content and things to do, make all the flaws(which are not few) seem excusable, when at times they're not. At times one of the most broken and laughably unimmersive open world games, and(i believe) most times a magically immersive and memorable experience. A true landmark in western RPGs, despite the glaring flaws.

    PROS:

-The sheer sense(or illusion) of freedom in the well written and surprisingly cohesive fantasy world

-Meticulously written lore, bringing welcome depth to the experience

-Some very memorable story moments, specially in sidequests or secondary questlines

-A very interesting way the presentation is handled, close to realism but at the same time with a unique visual style ressembling Tolkien-esque elements.

    -Masterpiece score by Jeremy Soule

    -Brimming with content

-Legitimately fun combat, if only a little repetitive and limited

    CONS:

-Countless bugs, even game breaking ones that ruin the entire experience

-Laughably thin characters, one has to really use their imagination to get attached to any of them

-Main questline is the least interesting of the few

-NPC interactions are limited at best; easily the most unimmersive aspect of the game

-Many badly implemented mechanics and systems, like pickpocket, magic, and the whole skilltree element.

-Sacrificed complexity and difficulty for accessibility, making the game thinner and easier than it could have been

  • Everything the first one did that was great, was kept here; the graphics and the gameplay are still excellent, with lots of tweaks. The open world map is amazing, with all its bright colors and its details, ready to be explored. Sacrificing scale for details was a smart move. This one also had all the fanservice that its predecessor didn't have, with lots more characters from the Batman lore. A top-notch action-adventure title, with a well realized and self contained map, even though the plot has its comic book-esque problems.

    PROS:

-Great Arkham City map, it's small but very interesting and detailed, envisioning focus on combat and exploration at the same time

-This has became a meme by now, but it's very impressive how the game immerses the player in the role of Batman; it's one of the best versions of the character and the presentation and gameplay are perfectly in line with what it represents

-The iconic characters everybody has grown to love

-Lots of content in the form of side missions, collectables and, in the case of DLCs, other playable characters

-The plot, while having glaring issues, still has very memorable moments.

    CONS:

-Overwhelming amount of collectables, and the way they're handled, specially the riddler trophies, makes them feel like a chore

-Overly pretentious and convoluted plot, tried to fit in as many character and plot points but didn't end up too great

  • This is one of the best action games of all time. It manages to do in video games what the Dollars trilogy has done in cinema, crafting an iconic and immersive wild west experience with a great plot, excellent characters, beautiful landscapes and a perfect score. The only thing i feel holds this back a little is the padding the story has at some points, with some downright pointless missions and some sloppy dialog. Still, no one can argue it has one of the best endings in gaming, and it's only that powerful because it's done in a video game.

    PROS:

-Incredible presentation, the deserts, hills and towns scream western, and so does the amazing Morricone inspired soundtrack

-Great three-dimensional characters; even the ones that don't appear much are interesting and memorable

-Crisp GTA-like shooting mechanics; i'm yet to find a rockstar game with bad or boring gameplay

-Iconic plotline and ending; the John Marston tale of redemption is one the greatest character arcs told through the medium

    CONS:

-Has some really boring parts, such as the horse taming and sheparding minigames.

-Padding at some points, specially in the middle of the game

  • Powerful character drama. The story really is the game's strongest point, the characters' relationship and how they deal with the situation, with very deep and humane characterization, reminds me of well written TV dramas like Breaking Bad. Contrary to what many people think, this game is not a movie in a PS3 disc, and watching gameplay on Youtube doesn't replace the feel of playing it; otherwise one would be missing out on the tight Uncharted-esque gameplay and astounding setpieces, with really tense moments and a very distinctive atmosphere. Easily one of the best games of 7th gen, a true modern classic.

    PROS:

-Some of the best written characters in gaming; it's already hard to find such human and complex characters in any medium, let alone videogames

-An unforgetable narrative, that while relatively short, is so rich in memorable moments and setpieces it feels very complete, leaving few noticeable holes

-Very immersive world; the beautifully crafted wasteland is consistently interesting and is very believable

-Solid shooting and stealth mechanics, in a way that perfectly lines up with the theme of the game: survival

    CONS:

-Maybe not much of a replay factor

    -Poorly handled collectibles

  • This game is fantastic. Other than the brilliant psychological aspect that brings depth to both the world and the characters, it's the characters themselves that make this so incredible, few other games make you feel like close friends to the cast like this one does(and even fewer make that a main game mechanic!). That and the wonderful presentation, with the amazing soundtrack, makes this one of the most welcoming games i've ever played. It also doesn't hurt that it's also a great dungeon crawler, with just the right amount of challenge, and has an excellent take on the murder mystery trope, with a story that spans over 60 hours and lots of twists. Like most great books and TV series, it's hard to say goodbye when it's over.

    PROS:

-One of the best casts of characters in any game i've played

    -Brilliant social link mechanic

-THE PRESENTATION; every dungeon is memorable and distinct from one another, while the town is always cozy and homelike

    -Excellent soundtrack

-Story full of twists and turns that keeps you invested

-Solid RPG mechanics with a hint of complexity and difficulty

    CONS:

-Sometimes the social aspect is boring, regarding some less interesting characters

-Difficulty spikes in the dungeons, sometimes they're too easy or too hard

    -Unpolished enemy and ally AI

-Very outdated animated cutscenes; downright ugly and unnecessary at some parts

  • First person shooters were never my cup of tea, let alone online competitive multiplayer ones, but this one had enough cool stuff for me to sink in a few hours into it. Nice for a little match or two, but i can't help but feel this kind of game had its time more than a decade ago, and the industry needs to move on. For what it's worth, it's one of the better ones i've played, despite not being really inventive.

    PROS:

-Just all-around solid gameplay, nothing to complain about if they were really going for a pseudorealistic approach

    -Nice class progression system

    CONS:

    -Story mode

    -Boring at long term

    -Sterile grey-ish art style

    -Overly competitive community

  • One of the big surprises of 2014, a great Paper Mario-esque RPG set in South Park! It would be entertaining enough if it was just a decent amount of fanservice for the ones who watch the show, but it's actually much more; the writing has the best features of the better SP episodes: godly toilet humor, razor-sharp social critique and an overwhelming sense of self awareness, while still retaining amazingly simplistic, but not ineffective, RPG progression systems that hide suprising layers of depth. A treat for anyone up for a fun time, set down only by its own lack of ambition.

    PROS:

-Downright HILARIOUS game, the writing really shows the best traits of Trey and Matt.

-Very approachable RPG mechanics, making the game welcoming for people not familiar with the genre

-Tight gameplay, with much more depth than it shows

-Amazing art direction, emulating perfectly the style of the show

-Nice details and quests that harkon back to some iconic moments of the show

    CONS:

-Not only too short, but almost underwhelming in how it ultimately turns out, leaves a feeling that the game could be much more

-For a 2014 RPG title, is strangely poor on content

  • Really a game everyone should play. Like the God character that names it, it can't get too much praise. A novel concept played out to its maximum potential, with delightful zelda-esque mechanics, a lot of creative ideas and twists, and much talent and heart involved in the making, makes this one of the most immersive, fun, affecting, and tremendously gorgeous games i've ever played.

    PROS:

-Absolutely incredible presentation, with the brush painted theme tying in with the story and mechanics perfectly

-A masterpiece of a soundtrack, simply beautiful

-Memorable characters within a very well written storyline

-Some of the best sidequests and extra content in gaming

-Magical creativity in the level design and how it interacts with the mechanics

-A battle system some action games only wish they had

    CONS:

-The story may lose some momentum at times for being too long

    -Annoying collectibles(kind of a nitpick)

  • I'm a sucker for Indiana Jones-esque action/adventure flicks, so the Uncharted series has a soft spot in my heart when it comes to gaming spectacle. And this is basically the pinnacle of it, corrects every single problem with the first game and still retains the same feel and expands on it. I know a lot of people talk about Kojima and MGS when it comes to games "feeling like a movie" or being "cinematic experiences", but i think Naughty Dog is where it's at; playing this game feels like experiencing the perfect adventure film, with its characters, writing, pacing, level design, it all feels really tight and well made. Despite a few missteps, it's one of the most charming, witty, and downright fun games to play.

    PROS:

-Graphically, it still holds up pretty well, some of the stages look stunning, and the environments are all memorable

-Perfect cast of characters, instantly likable and with great voice acting

-Some amazing writing; while not thought provoking or epic, it retains the feel of the better 80's action/adventure flicks, with some fun dialog and nice twists.

-Gameplay better described as "cinematically realistic", allowing you to do impossible feats, but still making it feel kinda grounded, allowing for an incredibly immersive experience

-Cool collectable system, a nice way to diverge from the game's linearity.

    CONS:

-Underwhelming final boss fight, felt so "gamey" in a game which whole point is to emulate a cinematic experience

    -Less than stellar multiplayer

  • PROS: Memorable story, better than many GTA games. Stellar combat system, with all the techniques and combos. The city is very detailed and rich, very fun to explore, and it fits in perfectly with every element in the plot. Has great characters and dialog, with excellent voice acting. A gem that deserved a lot more praise.

CONS: Kinda underwhelming shooting. Not much post-game content, which is a disappointment. Open world, but it's incoherent with the plot to have full freedom between missions, would have worked a bit better if it were more linear.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: Easily my favorite game from last gen. The gameplay mechanics, while simple, are really addicting, and the shooting is far superior than most shooter-RPGs like Fallout 3. The adam "spell" system is amazing, an RPG mechanic that stayed true to the plot and the atmosphere of the game. And what an atmosphere! The city of rapture is one of the most interesting game maps of all time, full of details and many thing to get your attention. The game really sucks you into its world, where everything is messed up and destroyed by ambition. Despite all that, what actually makes the game a masterpiece is its story. Without spoilers, i can say Bioshock is one of the most brilliant and clever games of all time. Everything about the plot is thoroughly built up to one minblowing moment, that divides the story in two. While it says a lot about socialism and anarchy, what makes Bioshock a real masterwork is its commentary on free will and video games themselves. Truly a classic.

CONS: While the game has a lot of qualities, it actually does have some problems. The graphics are really outdated by today's standards (the remaster came out last week), the two endings don't add much to the game, and the last boss fight was kinda underwhelming and weird, and maybe a bit too easy.

    PLATFORM:PS3(Bundled with infinite)

  • PROS: Really good follow-up. The shooting mechanics are refined, so the game actually is way more of a shooter than it was in the first game. The graphics are outstanding, and the floating Columbia manages to be even more interesting than its predecessor Rapture. The city looks alive, with much going on at the same time, it is such a pretty sight. All the characters are great, from the strange Lutece twins to your sidekick Elizabeth, each of them are memorable. The plot twist was incredible, and truly redeems for all the flaws in the plot.

CONS: Like mentioned earlier, the plot had potential, but all the flaws kinda ruined it. It just doesn't do justice to the brilliant plot of its predecessor. The shooting mechanics are too clunky, the game tries too hard to be a full fledged FPS instead of just a first person RPG with shooting mechanics.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: The presentation is really what sets this game apart, the characters are excellent, the story is clever and funny, and the stylized graphics with its different environments are amazing. The shooting is great, every gun has a different feel to it, and rarely do the battles get boring. The game overflows with content, many weapons and countless side quests. Multiplayer is stellar.

CONS: The game does get a bit unfair sometimes, specially when it requires grinding. Like many similar games. this one gets a lot overwhelming with the sheer amount of content. While the story is really funny with all its quirky characters, it lacks something to actually make you care for what you're doing; there's no real motivation other than the so called loot.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: The style of adventure presented in Indiana Jones makes a comeback, with fast paced action and a great protagonist in Nathan Drake, backed up by also great Victor Sullivan and Elena Fisher. The gameplay in this game is too good, the shooting, the platforming, the puzzle solving, it's all great. The way the gameplay is streamlined, looking similar to an action movie, is amazing.

CONS: It's the first game in the franchise, and it sure looks like it. The graphics are dated, the story is generic and the villain characters are forgetable. The final boss battle is really lame, doesn't even seem like a boss battle. The jet ski levels are terrible, the controls don't work well on these. The AI glitches many times. Feels relatively short, specially compared to other games in the franchise.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: This was the most recent game in the franchise when i bought it, and it showed it in its face. The graphics are beautiful, specially in the desert sections. The gameplay is still just as good, and it even added some really good features, like the granade counter-throwing and batman arkham-like melee combat, while also refining the shooting. The set pieces in this one are still incredible, maybe even better than 2.

CONS: In my opinion, the developers took the series to a terrible direction with this game. There was absolutely NO NEED to add an overly pompous and dramatic story to Uncharted, they just needed to keep doing excellent self-contained games like Uncharted 2! That's what the premise of the franchise has always been, just pure fun, not a pretentious storyline involving the characters's backstories. The new characters introduced are very unlikeable, specially the villains, and the dialog is excruciatingly bad. Not to mention that the new ideas introduced in the story don't make much sense, and in the end you're left with too many questions unanswered.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: The game gives back the feeling the old RPGs used to give us, with a simple but effective story and great characters. The battle system, while criticized by many, is very unique and complex, once you get the hang of it. The familiars are very diverse and interesting, alluding to the Pokémon catch 'em all feel. The game is overflowing with charm and personality, it really immerses you in its world with the excellent cutscenes made by Studio Ghibli and the astounding visuals, not to mention the great soundtrack by long time Ghibli collaborator Joe Hisashi.

CONS: The battle system is not very accessible, it takes a real learning curve, and that makes the game boring in the first few hours. The game progresses really slow, yet that might not be a problem for those used to long rpgs. The storyline, while engaging, is really cliché and childish. And while the game has that childish feel, it is actually really challenging, making it inaccessible by people not used to rpgs. The game's final act involving the White Witch(which wasn't in the DS version) felt really rushed and out of place, which kinda hurt the game's enjoyment.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: The brilliant way in that the game is fully player-commanded. Few games in that generation had this level of player choice, so it was amazing to have so many different playstyles to choose from, accompanied by the infamously excellent Deus Ex level design. The rpg mechanics are decent, and fit in well with the excellent political cyberpunk plot.

CONS: The graphics are really mediocre, even for the time. The shooting mechanics were very lacking, most times sorta forcing you in taking a stealth approach. While the plot is really good, it felt kinda pretentious at times, speacially near the end. The characters are not very likeable nor memorable, and the voice acting isn't very good too.

    PLATFORM:PS3

  • PROS: The game is just so much addicting and fun, it's a srangely good and rewarding feeling to roll the little ball until it gets huge. The soundtrack is great, and the quirky graphics and sounds, combined with its completely original gameplay makes this game very unique.

CONS: While the gameplay works most of the time, it has some problems too, like the camera twisting in very weird angles, and it requires a learning curve. The storyline doesn't make any sense, but that's not an actual problem in practice.
