While I obviously agree that people have been horrible to Fish, it's definitely a good thing that everyone doesn't quit when facing insults. Geez, at this point, if Fish is anything to go by, it's amazing that the entirety of Bioware hasn't committed suicide yet. Or Gearbox after Aliens: Colonial Marines. Or Ninja Theory for DmC. Or Capcom for Resident Evil. Or after anything negative that anybody has ever done ever. Seriously, Fish isn't some special unicorn that was insulted more than others. Everyone gets it, and everyone manages to keep it in check.

Yes, I absolutely think this behavior is abhorrent on the part of the "fans"/media, but it's all about how you react to it. Them being jerk-offs doesn't give you an excuse to be one, because then it just becomes a never ending cycle. Someone has to be the better man. I wish the world was a completely positive place, devoid of this type of criticism, but clearly people don't want it to go anywhere, so until they do, it won't. So while we live in this harsher world, that means we have to learn how to deflect the hate and be kind and compassionate despite what others say.

For me, they look way too time consuming, on top of seeming ridiculous boring. I don't really get into super addictive based games. It's why I can never stick with MMOs. They just can't maintain my interest, and I just don't have the time to mess with them.

This whole thing is just really dumb. Bunch of drama queens. Nut up and learn to move on.

Actually, one of the ironies of this thread is that Dragon Age II totally had an anti-Chosen One story, and it wasn't save the world stuff either, and people HATED that game. One of the primary reasons I saw(from a story standpoint, not counting the gameplay) was that it wasn't "epic" enough compared to the Darkspawn war stuff in Dragon Age Origins. Which was much more Chosen One-y. Also, people felt you didn't have enough agency in events, and that too many things happened outside of your actions that you couldn't control. Which is kind of most of what those that get so mad at this trope ask for. Heh.

Keep in mind I loved DAII, I just always found this aspect of the game's reception hilarious in retrospect.

Nah, not really. If it's done well, it can be fine. Also, it's not fair to relegate "the one" as just whoever the important character is in the story. Shepard, for example, is not a chosen one. He's only in that position because of actions that he has taken in the past. Just saying, "I'm tired of this character being the most important character" is ridiculous. Of course you're going to be important to the grand scheme of things. You're the main character. That's why they exist. Sure, there will always be stories where you're more of a schmo, and more low key, but for the most part, you'll always be the important one.

It's nowhere near even in the ballpark of what you're dealing with, but I've had some serious love issues(unrequited) the last couple of weeks as well. Yeah, it sucks. However, I'm kind of like you, despite the bad, I can't forget the good. Just try to use the situation as a way to build your own character, to grow as a person. It's hard to think of, but it's the only way out of it that can help. You just have to brave the worst, and figure out healthy ways to get through.
