Caught up on the current (12!) chapters of Ketchup Ninja, I think I can recommend it to anyone who like really crazy stories or anything that pokes fun at stereotypical american culture. I posted a page from it in the last thread but I'll repost it in this nice fresh one:

Also been reading Holyland, if you like fighting (specifically street fighting) and coming-of-age stories you'd probably like it. I really do. It's essentially about "beating depression by learning to beat the shit out of people" but that's really simplifying it.

Currently reading Ketchup Ninja, I can't even describe it. It's so fucking bonkers. Japan bans ninjas, high school girl/ninja moves to the US and enters school there. Only it's completely insane. And kinda entertaining?

Yessss. Features the newer announced characters and some game features. The President makes a stunning appearance. Some glimpses of alternate outfits, too, like Jonathan's striped shirt+ballcap outfit.

(Well shit, didn't mean to delete my post. Anywhoooo...)

Another dope episode of Uchouten Kazoku. I think it's finally safe to say Benten is probably one of my favorite characters in anything in recent memory. The entire cast of this show is pretty damn great, but her "I'm literally telling you how I feel without literally telling you how I feel" chat with Yasaburo was a beautiful scene to watch. Anyone else catch the latest episode? How ya liking it so far?

1 good first episode and 4 fantastic following it? Yeah I'm feeling pretty great about it. Any scene with Yasaburo and Benten interacting, even if it's completely without words like the fireworks scene last episode, is just really, really good. Benten is an incredibly hard character to figure out. Is she really just selfish? Are her interactions with Yasaburo a game to her? Is there genuine attaction? Definitely looking forward to the rest of this.

This weeks episode of Attack on Titan was pretty awesome, hopefully it keeps picking up some speed again. But quick question about the episode that is kind of spoilery: When Armin Shouts "Avenge the bastard who ran to their death..." to Jean what did Armin hope that would do? and why did the lady titan stop its attack when Armin yelled that. Was it just a latch ditch effort to psych Jean up or something?

Also Watamote continues to be surprisingly good

He was acting like Eren got killed to see if the titan would react. It worked, since he was thinking that Eren was the FemTitan's goal.

Anyone have any suggestions for anime in the same vein as Serial Experiments Lain?

If by "vein" you mean the cyberspace vs realspace themes and such, go for Dennou Coil. It's somewhat lighthearted but is really interesting and is just fantastically animated throughout.

The President of the United States, Funny Valentine, was confirmed and he'll be bringing along his Stand Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (aka D4C). Also confirmed was a non-DLC version of Kira, and fans will know the difference between the two, who is also bringing along Killer Queen but also the cat-turned-plant Stand Stray Cat.

I was actually re-watching Yu Yu Hakusho as well. Probably the best fighting anime shows ever. I haven't seen Hunter X Hunter or Rurouni Kenshin yet, though.

Fix that. HxH is probably the most consistently well written shonen manga and Madhouse started off kinda wonky but by episode 30 or so they have been doing an increasingly better job. And the current arc, which the old anime never animated, is truly one of the best arcs in anything I've read, and MH has been doing a great job adapting it.

RK is great but don't bother watching past like episode 60, just read the manga after that.

I know it's written by the same guy but is it a fighting anime? In the vein of Dragonball Z and Fist of the North Star. Y'know, there's a threatening bad guy and power levels and enough accidental homoeroticism to make Arnold Schwarzenegger jealous?

YYH falls apart after The Dark Tournament but man, up until that point (and mostly afterwards, too) it's a brilliant combination of cheesy stupid fun and dramatic character development. It really shouldn't work as well as it does.

HxH has fights, yes, but they're not always the focus. It has a really well planned out and in-depth power system that doesn't really allow for "power levels", since every character who knows it can use the basics, but their special abilities will be widely different and it will usually come down to who is smarter. And for bad guys, it's a bit more complicated than that. There's no overarching antagonist, some arcs don't even have one. Plus, the main characters are all interesting, even the main-main, who at first glance just looks like your typical shonen protag, but is always entertaining. Naive, but not stupid.
