@vibratingdonkey: They may think if your or my bro want to play a borrowed game anymore, that they can use your/my xbox. Perhaps since my brother has his own xbox and your brother probably does too, they are assuming our brothers could cough up the cash if the inconvenience is too high. I hope they aren't betting on this because as you said, dealbreaker. My brother lives ten feet away but we have separate lives and I don't want him and he doesn't want me "coming over" to play a game regularly if we are not playing multiplayer together. Even then, we usually play over the network on our separate boxes and TVs.
I am curious what deals existing rental places would make with publishers though. Redboxes are all over the place here and GameFly is big enough that they might strike a deal for their customers of some kind. They have done so in the past for content and modes locked behind pay walls. When the last Battlefield shipped the entire online part of the game was locked. A few days later GF had worked out a deal to get lots of codes for their customers so they could use the game at least for a few weeks without further purchase.
