Wow, and I thought Comic Vine was pessimistic

They've raised millions of dollars despite having no prototype or games to show for it yet. There is a lot of reasons to be skeptical of this thing.

There's a difference between being skeptical of the thing's potential to succeed and calling it a scam.

I prefer P2P honestly. $15 a month isn't that difficult for me to pay, and I would rather just do that than have a cash shop.(Knowing me I would probably spend far more than 15 bucks a month in a cash shop.)

Indeed you probably would spend more in some cash shops that a lot of F2P games use. I know I spent forty dollars on DCUO for a few of the expansion packs that it put out and if something else peaks my interest I may throw down the cash for it. There are a lot of folks who may go on a shopping spree in those shops and as a result the game manages to pull in a good sized profit.

False logic:-

  • Those expansion you purchased are one time costs and can be played and replayed with no ongoing fees. Their collective costs is still cheaper if you play the same game 3 months down the road.
  • DCUO did not make a profit while it was P2P which is why it went F2P.

The subscription model only works for games which can maintain a core audience and there are very few MMOs which have been able to do so; chiefly OU and WoW with a few others barely hanging on. The subscription model is dead.

I really think people here hating on the Chic-Fil-A founder are insane. I've heard the guy speak and he seemed pretty nice. America is pretty much split in terms of this view http://www.gallup.com/poll/154529/half-americans-support-legal-gay-marriage.aspx. So half of America is bigots? Personally I don't care how government defines marriage or anything else; I don't feel that government reflects on me personally. If I ever go down to the States I'll be sure to go to Chic-Fil-A for spite: I might buy a second one for the birds.

In other words you agree with his point of view concerning homosexuals and you're going to use one poll to justify your stance. In your opinion then the other half of America is insane. Yes, that sounds logical. You don't sound extremist at all.

@Jumbs: The company isn't bigotry. It is all blown out of porportion. This is from Chick-fil-A's own website

Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family.
The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our Restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect –regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena. Our mission is simple: to serve great food, provide genuine hospitality and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.

uh sorry dude, but their CEO has a very strong and well known anti-gay and anti-gay marriage position. He funds anti gay groups and back politicians with anti gay marriage policies. He even came out in the press recently saying that he was"guilty as charged" in regards to his anti-gay stance and funding. This has led to both Henson Inc. and the authors of the Berenstain Bears to pull their support from working with Chick-Fil-A. Don't take corporate wording as truth, because it's often a lie.

I think it will probably fail, considering the mountain it has to climb regarding its market opposition, not to mention the sort of self-loathing fucks that seem to hate anything Android related who are already hoping for it to fail for no real reason. I don't want it to fail, though, and would very much like it to be a success. It's also got to contend with a natural opposition from the lion's share of the gaming press, which exists in large part due to being dependent on the big three and various large publishers for coverage; a small little Android box with virtually no barrier to entry isn't going to have that same weight to force the press to care, which in turn means the press is much more likely to just be dismissive if not outright hostile to its existence. It has quite the unlikely road to success ahead of it, but I hope for the one-in-a-million chance that it makes it there.

That is the most reasoned response I think I've read so far. Thank you. I share the exact same sentiment.

I'm not even convinced that it is even going to come out. If it does it most certainly isn't going to cost $100. Have you ever looked at the price of Android smart phones? You are looking at like $300 and up off contract. At prices like that the Ouya is doomed for failure. Who is going to pay that kind of money to play cell phone/tablet games on their TV when you can get a PS3 or 360?

Most of the expense in a handset is the LCD sceen, the touch interface, the signal licensing and the minimalisation. Take away those things and you're left with a chipset, some RAM (sometimes even packaged directly into the chipset) and some storage of the flash variety. There are already single core Android set top boxes which are under $70 right now and there are dual core devices coming out at around the same price as the OUYA too.

Also, have you played some of the better Tegra games?

Some of them are very impressive.

@SeriouslyNow Ohh man did you miss the point or what. Im saying "the app store is a wasteland". Now you seem like a... Person, so im going to concede that there are gems on the app store sure, but theyre few and far between. Now put your samsung away and hope that donation to kickstarter didnt fall through. Oh, an fallacy for fallacy. Your ad hominum to my straw man.

Don't have a Samsung. Nice try, though!

Not sure what you could say was my ad hom was or how I missed the pont when you concede you did straw-man via assumption and that decent games exist in the App store. As is always the case, the better games are always in the minority. Almost every gaming system has a vast majority of shovelware, poorly executed titles and middle of the road fare. The only real exception to this might be the Neo Geo, but that's only if you particularly enjoy arcade game design because it's sorely lacking anything that goes beyond that (and I fucking love the Neo Geo, so I speak from experience).

I don't know why people seem so invested to see this fail. Oh wait, yes I do. People are arseholes.
