Considering Steam does the same shit.... Pirates are probably the only sane PC gamers left.

Steam's EULA is a lot more clear and most data they collect you can see. Steam collects info about services running (VAC), data that is already collected and made readily available by your OS. It is not a complete scan as Origin seems to do. Steam also collects info of how long you have been playing certain games. But only Steam intergrated games. It does not collect how long you have been running MS Excel, something that Origin might actually be able do - even though they probably won't, it's just that EA's EULAs are worded in such a way that it "legally" could.

Facebook is diffirent. It does not actively run a service that finds info about you that you are not readily giving up. On Facebook you are readily giving up information about yourself. You are uploading it to their site. Whilst Origin could possibly be actively searching for it without you wanting to give such information away. Facebook would be like that friend of yours that you tell everything who tells everyone else. Origin could potentially be like that stalker that follows you everywhere and takes pictures of you when you are sleeping or on the toilet - a stalker that might sell those pictures with your face pixelated but forgot to delete the address.

That's the Origin install EULA. Apparently there is another EULA when you create an EA account where it states that EA is allowed to record your MAC address along with lots other fun personal info. Yay!

Also, SWTOR will apparently not require you to install and run the Origin service to be able to play the game.

So, if you store your credit card information somewhere on your computer Origin might actually obtain that information? Heck, it might even get access to my bank information since here we will soon be using smartcard readers to access our online bank frontend thingy. Yay.

Wait, EA dislike making money all of a sudden?

They are all like: 'We could make tons of money but we decided not to'. That shareholder meeting is going to go well.

@Rockanomics: Yeah, it probably is. The game isn't far off though. It's a pretty looking game and frankly, I can't wait for From Dust 2 announcement :p

You know, that tsunami shot on the top of the page - having finished the game on the PC I have never seen the tsunamis look that good. Basically looking like it is a wave that is about to crash down. I guess that this must have been one lucky screengrab.

Why say something against violent videogames and not something against football which is probably played every school in the U.S.? Football is a lot more violent than videogames since real life violence beats digital violence hands down, has worse smacktalk (mostly done by parents) and cause a lot more RL deaths. I'm surprised that the ball hasn't become a spiked one by now.

Ubisoft - not run by gamers for gamers.

An important part of development is asking the question "What do I, as a gamer, want?" rather than "What do I, as a developer/publisher/lawyer, want?" - another important part, naturally, is to come up with the right answer.
