Guild Wars 2 is not F2P. It is B2P or Buy to Play. F2P or Free to Play indicates that it is completely free to access it. B2P is exactly what I was hoping for ESO. That would mean that they would get away with more micros for some things but still be a step up from F2P.

@patrickklepek

The tiny country is home to just 319,000 people, and more than 120,000 reside in Reykjavik itself.

Since I live here I would just like to offer a tiny correction. Population numbers were 321,857 as of January 1st this year. We've got all this statistics stuff (and more!) logged here, if anyone is interested.

Also, awesome travelouge :)

I have backed 26 projects on Kickstarter and of those 5 have been unsuccessful in their funding.

This project doesn't look very interesting to me to tell the truth. And I didn't know about it. That's part of the problem, there are way too many Kickstarter projects out there and you have no knowledge of who you can trust and who you can't.

@BPRJCTX: $20 is cheaper than the PC version. I also think that you don't understand how programming works and how Minecraft was programmed.

They are making the port from PC to XBox 360. This means that they want the most stable PC version they can get so they can make a stable 360 version. The PC version was programmed in Java and very likely the game had to be re-programmed in another programming language for the XBox 360. Doing that you do not want to work with an ever-evolving source code. If they had updated their project everytime the PC version got updated they would still be making the XBox 360 version. Once they have nailed down the base, got it stable and possibly released it you can start on a) improving it and/or b) adding new things to it. Do not forget either that the way that Minecraft has been programmed on the PC makes it use quite a bit of internal memory. XBox 360 Arcade only has 256mb of internal memory so that has to be the lowest common denominator. This might be one of the thing limiting them.

Playing on PC with an XBox360 controller. I was afraid that mouse and keyboard would not be the best control scheme.

Already had a few minor annoyances with the game:

  • when you create a character you will still need a keyboard to write the name
  • anywhere else in the game the keyboard is unresponsive, meaning that using a controller completely overwrites a secondary input device
  • you can write special characters when creating a character (such as ó, á, etc) but when the game displays the name again it doesn't recognise these special characters, why allow writing them if it isn't going to be able to show them? :/

Wait so this "game" is actually a "game" now? I kind of find it funny that they actually want people to review this game as if it actually is a "game."

Mojang wants people to review Minecraft? Since when have they put forth that requirement with the release?

Why are people making such a stink about this? The EULAs for Valve and iTunes, for example, are way more intrusive than the PSN's. And anyway, if millions of people's credit cards got stolen again, the company would be held responsible again. Simple as that.

And you made us a template? Articles like this are pure fear-mongering. I love GB, but Mr. Klepek brings down the whole site.

Are you telling us that the EULAs for Valve and iTunes hold a similar clause of waiving your rights to use them? Because that's what this is about - not 'intrusiveness' of the EULA.

EULAs and TOS's are however large pieces of legal documents that we take near to no notice of. Who knows, you might have agreed to some EULA that says that they can take your firstborn and put it in to slave labor in a slum factory in India. You'd be pretty livid if they enforced it - no matter the legality of it.

In this case, this.

Agreed. This kind of sensationalist approach to news of this nature feels very Fox News to me.

You pay for this, mind you. Maybe you guys should force the issue more vocally - customer is always right.

No, he is not. He should always feel he is right if you want to sell him something but this claim that the customer is always right is pure BS.

I'm definitely on the side of freedom of expression, but did he really think this app was going to stick around the store? You aren't going to walk into Walmart and buy a shirt with writing that says, "We underpay our workers at Walmart!"

This is a store curating their own materials, and whether or not you agree with that, it's their right as a private business.

It's not a freedom of expression if a corporation can control what is expressed.

Business's have a right to run their business as they so choose. You can't paint your next-door neighbor's house because you're expressing yourself. People still have rights on their private property.

I think Apple should be careful though, because they could be on a slippery slope in stifling the creativity to be found on the app store.

If you believe in freedom of expression then you believe in it, not just parts of it that are convenient to you at any given moment.

And you can paint the door of your neighbour. The option to do so is there. Your neighbour might not like it and he might call the police - he might even express his fist in your face.
