I like to keep my PC open for doing other things while I play games on my consoles, but if a game is PC-exclusive or if I can get it for real cheap (like via Steam) I'll get it there. I prefer long, in-depth games and competitive multiplayer games on consoles, but I'll gladly play more casual games or co-op games on PC.
I don't think Battlefield 3 means anything in particular for PC gaming, other than a lot of PC gamers having an awesome game to play. I think that over the next few years the disparity between PC and consoles will become irreconcilable. This will probably result in either games being skewed more towards one audience or the other, or in some seriously compromised ports on both platforms. I imagine it will be a mix of both. Then new consoles will come out and be better capable of coping with some of the advances made in the PC market, resulting in games made to be relatively comparable across platforms for awhile.
Hmm... I think they would have to give you the EA Pass code, but I don't know from experience. I, too, am interested to know the details of a situation like this.
I don't think it's unprofessional, I think it just lacks a bit of perspective. GDC is (or at least was) about developers, and therefore the "hows," as she puts it, are at least as interesting to the audience as are the "whys" she was looking for as a journalist.
" @Spoonman671: Its because its a DLC map. You need to manually choose a different map and then you will be able to vote for any map you want in the playlist... but if you get into a match of Salamun Market then it will just keep playing that continually - its NOT because people are choosing that map - all the other maps have full matches too. "
I don't think that's actually what's going on. I doubt the game is selecting Salamun Market over other maps simply because it is DLC. I think it is much more likely that players are purposefully choosing Salamun Market, and then being locked into it because it is DLC and has it's own playlist so as not to conflict with players that don't have it, thereby perpetuating the increasing number of lobbies for that particular map.
At least that's what makes sense to me. I could, of course, be completely wrong.
