@lazyimperial: So... You're not denying harassment of other groups exists, but your argument is that white men also deal with harassment and therefore that cannot be the reason for this cavalier stance on moderation? I'm not denying that occasionally white men have to deal with some shit too, but to suggest the levels (not only frequency, severity too) of abuse and harassment are at all comparable is bananas. If that were true (it's not, and it's dangerous to even suggest that it is) then that makes the decision to leave this service unmoderated even more negligent.
Regardless of who the developers are I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a base level of awareness of the multiple hate groups that are videogames adjacent, or the #meToo movement, or general human shittiness that existed long before any of them. There are nazis on TV now - ignorance of this shit is inexcusable. Optimism from the developers is fine, but to not have a plan B is at best irresponsible and at worst compliant.
Anyway, I've edited that paragraph to be less aggressive, and appreciate the discussion about it.
Please note; The Republic of Ireland (most people simply refer to it as Ireland) and Northern Ireland are two different countries, and The Republic Of Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom. It's still a pretty tense situation.
Other notes; Everyone hates England and if you mistakenly call a Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish/Irish person English by mistake, they will have something to say about that.
@kooldrmoney: hmmm, that's a good question actually. I don't think customization characters count, as you can kinda design and play them however you want. I think Ellie is being presented as a fully realized character, whereas shepherd is mostly just a vehicle for the intentions of the player. But that's open to debate, if others feel differently!
It's kinda bananas that so many people can watch all the footage and trailers of Day's Gone and still feel so underwhelmed. It looks great, the action looks fun, the characters and setting are interesting... Is it just the marketing that's getting people down? Do we collectively have Zombie Fatigue? Because I kinda feel the same way, I feel like I'm watching footage of what is potentially a really incredible game but I just don't have it in me to feel any sense of excitement.
We've decided to enforce our blanket ban on all gamergate related discussions and as a result a lot of comments in this thread have been removed.
This ban has been in effect for many years and is applied selectively based on the discretion of the mod team.
Regardless of your feelings on the matter, or your opinions on TotalBiscuit's involvement, we're not interested in hosting that discussion here. We can already see people falling back into the same arguments; they weren't productive before and they're not going to be productive now.
If you want to discuss gamergate or gamergate related topics then please do so on a different website. If you take issue with this then you're welcome to contact the mod team and/or support staff.
