It's all about the price of the software. It amazes me that Nintendo still doesn't get that.
No dedicated handheld will ever be successful again unless the games drop down to the neighborhood of 5-15 dollars to compete with not only the iPhone, but XBLA and PSN downloads as well.
So I find myself with a proper gaming PC for the first time in more than 10 years. So, what have I missed?
I'm looking for hidden gems mostly. Anything good really. No MMOs, and no RTS games unless they have a single player campaign on a Company of Heroes or Starcraft 2 level of quality.
Keep in mind I've remained a console gamer, so any big cross platform release that has interested me in the last ten years I have already played. PC exclusives are what I'm looking for, unless it is something so much better on the PC it's worth a possible double dip.
The difficulty wasn't balanced properly and the controls could not perform under certain situations the game would put you in. There was nothing worse than taking a shotgun blast that you knew was coming but couldn't dodge, all because the game made you put up your dukes to brawl someone in the middle of a gunfight.
So I bumped down the difficulty to keep the flank happy assholes at bay, and turn the game into a mindless shooting gallery. That fits the swashbuckling adventure feel of the story much better anyway.
I've only had one horse die in my 70 hours or so playing the game. I find them useful for exploring, especially since figuring out you can fast travel while over encumbered on a horse. That plus their speed and climbing ability, with no real negative qualities to speak of, at least makes them more than a "mockery".
To have the most fun in Skyrim you just have to let the chips fall where they may. When my horse died I wasn't thinking about reloading a save or about how much gold it cost me. I let out a savage war cry at the tv as I exacted my revenge on the bandits that killed her.
