@Ygg:

Why don't you just get it on a console or invest in one if you don't already own one? I dunno why you would use a pad on PC assuming you are intending to play games online, keyboard and mouse users will have such a big advantage... Just seems like the wrong platform if you want to sit back with a controller for all/most of your games, I enjoy putting games onto my TV and moving over to my sofa for racing games but for most games, especially FPS it has to be keyboard and mouse, even more so if it's online. Though that said I do tend to play third person shooters with a pad too but that's kinda game/online play dependant. Single player third person games I always use my 360 pad.

I might buy the console versions (I have both) but the pc version supports larger games so I'd like to play there if possible. Keyboard and mouse end up getting in the way for me playing games, gamepads just work better for me. BF games have never been very twitch based in my experience, it's a lot slower and more tactical so I don't find using the controller to slow me down or get in the way. BFBC2 doesn't feel any easier or faster on the pc with a mouse and keyboard and I really wish that supported the gamepad and could adjust the interface so that you could see everything easily from farther away. I'm hoping they can make this happen in bf3.

Decent rig, might have a minor upgrade during the year.

I'm on an AMD X2 5600+ (I think?) and a 9600GT. I picked up Borderlands GOTY on the steam sale and that has been awesome. Works beautifully with my wired 360 controller and everything about the game is designed to be played sitting in a chair farther away rather than at a desk very close to the monitor. I picked up BFBC2 as well and that is exactly the opposite. Doesn't support a controller and the perspective of the game is too small to enjoy sitting in a chair from farther away. Also picked up CoD4 on sale and that doesn't use the controller either but the game looked ok from farther away...but then it was a fucking mess getting it working. Server list won't refresh, sound drivers needed updating, mp game crashes unless you enable stereo mixer...

If BF3 on the pc can be played comfortably from my armchair with a gamepad I'll consider upgrading my pc to play it there, but I'm doubting they will based on bfbc2.

<asherkin> there are also a large number of tf2 servers aimed specifically at trading, the non-premium players can't start trades and therefore just end up in these servers taking up a slot and begging for items

<asherkin> (it's a trade server owner that originally asked me for the plugin)

So this is really just about hats? New players won't have any and you just don't want them slowing or affecting your access to your hats...good god I am so glad I don't play this game anymore.

I think Dice's/EA's solution with BFBC2's passcode was perfect. Everyone could still play online but with the code you gradually got more maps and modes that people without the code would want. I think many companies are simply trying to lock the entire mp side of the game up so that people have to pay them to get access. I'm a heavy used game trader and I don't think I've ever purchased one of these codes. I rarely see the point. I have picked up new copies of games that had the codes, homefront comes to mind, but when I get a used copy of something it feels like a scam to pay them to let me play the MP of a game they've already been paid for. I'm getting a copy of MK for the 360 soon and I might spend $10 on that pass...but again...is it really worth $10? I keep coming back with "NO" and moving to another game.

If they were to add content with that code then I'd feel differently but as long as they just want ppl to pay them for something they've already been paid for I think this just works against them. The person who bought the game and traded it to me isn't playing with that pass anymore...it's not like you have to suddenly support 2 ppl playing the game, there is only one copy of the game being played.

First thing I'd try is exercise. Go get on a treadmill and run. Run until you are too tired to run anymore. If that is too hard then just walk fast, again until you literally can't continue. Wear yourself out. Good luck staying up after that. And drink a SHIT LOAD of water. This cannot be stressed enough. You should be drinking so much water that you are going to the bathroom once an hour. If you bust your ass like this you need to drink like a fish.

Enjoy!

I wouldn't say disappointed. I had no expectations for the multiplayer and it failed to impress me. I've only spent an hour playing but if what we're seeing is basically the full product I think they should go back and add way more items to use. The gameplay isn't going to win me over alone so if they added way more stuff to customize then new gameplay might emerge and that might be something I want to play.

If this is just a hacked up game and missing most of the content I think this is a missed opportunity to get people into the mp game. It feels really shallow. And I can only assume that the graphics are noticeably turned down for mp because everyone I've heard talk about the SP game is amazed by how it looks and the MP game looks like it's 2 years old. Very rough.

The best part about the game so far is the download speed I had it come over at. Took 15 min to download 1.6 gb. That is amazing on psn in my experience and I have to assume it was a fluke, that was the most awesome part of the game.

FPS with Dinosaurs would be awesome. I wanna ride a T Rex around shooting fools on the ground and watch my T-Rex eat people. Calling in an air strike could be a stampede that tramples anyone in the area. Fucking Jurassic park mother fuckers! Lets Do This!

I don't think Duke is a good example of games we need more of. It takes the slower pacing, less combat, more scripted events style of gameplay and slaps a stupid story on top of it that just gets in the way of having fun. What we need is more games like serious sam HD that are $20 value titles that are good stupid fun to play. Games like Painkiller might be a good example. What we absolutely do not need is more duke. We do not need to develop stories and characters and immersive worlds around stuff like Serious Sam and Painkiller. The setting in those games serves only to make the experience feel connected to the enemies. All those crazy knights in painkiller hunting you wouldn't make much sense inside an army barracks, but putting the battle in a big graveyard makes the experience more fun. Trying to connect that via a coherent story to the next area would be ridiculous.

The worst thing duke did was ask gamers to pay $60. That is an unforgivable act on the part of Gearbox and 2k and I will carefully review my possible purchases from them in the future.

You might look into Goozex.com for older games like this. I'm grabbing a copy of Darksiders in the near future, it's been a @#$%@% gold mine for playing older games. Highly recommend the site. In the beginning there can be a lot of waiting but the key is to give yourself a lot of options. (IE get in line for many games)

I look forward to a quick look from Giant Bomb.

I don't think a quicklook will be very helpful on a gigantic open world RPG like that.

Sure it will, they've done Quick Looks that are more than an hour and take place a good way into the game so you can get a feel for this kind of thing. I think the Quick Looks are more valuable for determining if a game is worth a purchase than any other measure. I need to see the game for myself. If not Quick Look's then perhaps and "Let's Play" off youtube, possibly muted if the son of a bitch won't shut up, but I need to see gameplay. Video reviews can be helpful as well but uninterrupted gameplay for about 30 min or more is normally the most valuable thing for me to see.

For example the quick look on Witcher 2 had me hooked after about 20 min, it's an hour and twenty two minutes long.
