I'm glad I'm not so insecure that I need to fancy up my hobby to make me seem more cooler and get concerned enough with what people think of me to affect my enjoyment of a thing i enjoy.
All this reminds me of the term "graphic novel" made up by weird hipsters who wanted to sound more profound reading superman punch a nazi during the mid-00s, what a load of hogwash.
Here's a secret that everyone should realize when they are adults: No one cares about what you like. No one cares how smart you are. No one cares what insight you got from "interacting" with your favorite "experience". No one cares how profound or valuable your hobby is. If people shaft you and make fun of you for enjoying something, you probably don't want to be friends with them anyway, they sound like vapid monster people who will always shaft you on your shortcomings in their mind regardless of video games.
If you honestly get so hung up on what people think of you having a good time then maybe having a hobby isn't for you. People will hate you anyway regardless of how "Mature" or "Intellectual" your hobby sounds because they are specifically looking for reasons to judge you negatively. When you start wanting to change yourself and what you like for that, you let them get the better of you.
As for whether they are "games", Iunno man even the most non-gamey games like Gone Home & Dear Esther have a win state, which is pretty much all it takes on a baseline to make a game.
tl;dr Like what you like, live your life, there's no need to re-brand your hobby based on what other people think. Video Games is a fine term.
I leave you with the wisdom of modern day poet, Kanye West: "There'll Always Be Haters"
