" @girdz: @theWarren: No, there is nothing wrong. Games that run at 720p, will make the PS3 switch the TVs resolution to 720p. Thats why you see the screen flash and the box appear. When you quit back to the XMB, the screen will again have the box say 1080p on it. For games that are 1080p, the screen will stay the same and you can check using the INFO button on your samsung remote.
If you have 1080p checked on the resolution part of the options in the XMB, it will still do this swtich.
WHY? It is because unlike the 360, the PS3 does not include an upscaler, so games will only run at their native resolutions. Check your game boxes and it will tell you the native resolution. The 360 boxes dont help because they just list the resolutions the Xbox supports, not the game. "
You're TV doesn't actually change resolutions. If it's a 1080p tv, it will always display a 1080p image. What the little box in the corner actually means is the resolution of the signal it's receiving. If the signal isn't the same resolution it will process the image accordingly to display it, I.E. upscale 720p to 1080p, deinterlace 1080i to 1080p.
