So bizarre, and out of left field. Were there even any rumors about this? I'm impressed they were able to keep it under the radar so long.

That said, I'm shocked that Nvidia is suddenly looking at the market and saying, "Yes, now is clearly the best time for us to enter the handheld hardware market!"

I don't think I've ever cried at a video game... Then again, the same could be said for books and movies. Don't get me wrong, I think video games, books, and movies can all be extremely emotionally effective, I just... I dunno. There are like, maybe two movies that have ever made me cry, maybe like one book, and... I can't think of a video game. I got a little bit choked up at the end of Mass Effect 3, but that was because it was ending, not because of the ending (which was garbage). The Walking Dead kind of just made me want to go lie in bed for a while, but not actually cry.

Man, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "The Body" though? That sure did wreck me. That's probably the most emotional I've ever gotten over a piece of media.

Also, the comics are still running, and continuing the story, even if they do range from kind of silly to outright terrible (with the occasional good moment thrown in to keep you on your toes).

No snark intended with this: do you mean exactly like how the last two seasons were?

Not at all. I love the last two seasons. They aren't as good as the show at it's peak, no, but they complimented the series well, and had a lot of really great episodes ("Once More, With Feeling" or "Normal Again", for example.)

Joss Whedon, much as I love his writing, kind of needs a budget to restrain his storytelling. It can be a big budget, as evidenced by The Avengers, but when he's actually told sky's the limit, you can write any story beat you want into this, and we'll make it happen, then things get... Kind of silly.

As in, Buffy and Angel screw a new universe into existence. That happened.

For what it's worth, there are some quality arcs in the comics. I've read all the season 8 ones, and I plan to continue into the season 9 ones, but... Wow, that ending for season 8 was duuuuuuumb.

I watched the first two episodes of six and skipped around with the rest. I was really not impressed. I laughed, I cried, I learned a bit about myself during my time with Buffy. But I just could not *do* anything I saw past season 5.

If you haven't seen either "Once More With Feeling" or "Normal Again", you should really track down both of those episodes. The rest of season six is, in my opinion, good, both those two episodes are among the best of the series.

Once More With Feeling is arguably the best episode of the series. But yes, those two episodes are absolutely worth watching, even if you're not down with the rest. Tabula Rasa is fun too.

I tried to muscle my way through six to get to Once More With Feeling because I keep hearing how wonderful it is. Is it watchable out of context?

Yeah. The "previously on" bit kind of tells you everything you need to know, IIRC. You should be just fine jumping straight into it, as far as I remember.

It might be my favorite of the series. "Hush" is really good though, even if that did come smack dab in the middle of the worst season of the show.

@Zuldim: I just have to say that while I'm with you on preferring Buffy to Angel, I think season 5 of Angel is up there with the best of Buffy. Also, "Not Fade Away" Is one of the best episodes of anything ever.

@EquitasInvictus: That article is actually pretty good. I question some things, but I get it's for humor.

I absolutely agree that Season 5 is up there with the best of Buffy, but season 1-4, while good, are not.

Also, like I said, it felt like a very different show. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely loved Angel as well, and it's up there with my favorite shows ever, I think I just loved Buffy a little bit more.

That said, sure, I'd take a Buffy game that had a chance of being actually good. It's my favorite show. Ever.

Oh man, I had to stop getting them. I adored the hell out of that show, I've never found anything to replace it, even Angel. It became pretty apparent the point Joss Whedon was having nothing to do with the comic. Season 8 was just INSANE (caps needed) and I didn't even finish the next season after magic was wiped out. I found the killing off of Giles to be a huge slap in the face to people that were fans of the show, especially as it is some kind of canonical progression. They seemed to be total fanwank at some point... hey remember this girl, no? how about this side character... and this dude. Oh, and everyone that is dead can be alive again... just because!

I just wish they'd done more Fray.

As for the topic, I think it would be cool, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a thing of the past... well, until the inevitable reboot/film/whatever.

And I played the second game... it was shit.

Oh man, I too really wish they'd just make Fray an ongoing. I actually kind of liked the comics (with a few caveats), but Fray was way, waaaay better than the season 8 comics were.

I actually didn't mind them killing Giles. I mean, it sucked, but it's based on Buffy. It wouldn't be Buffy without random, senseless character death. I mean, the comics are intended to be canonical progression of the story... And I think that up until around the last five issues, they did that just fine. Although it might be because I went from watching every episode of the show off Netflix straight into reading the comics, so I actually got most of the character references and jokes.

Angel was good, especially season 5, but yeah, it wasn't Buffy. It was great in it's own right, but it was really a quite different show.

@Branthog: Why a decade ago? New buffy-movie being made right now...

Hasn't been any news about it in over a year, and it seemed to have an extremely troubled production. We can only hope that movie never gets made.
