For me it's a hell yes.
I'm still somewhere on my second run and called it quits for a bit due to the insanity of difficulty spike. Very few games compare to RoF, and it's still fun.
Anyone make it past a second run, and tips on how to play in the next 8 difficulties?
So, six months later...what are your second opinions?

A "gun battle" RPG developed at tri-Ace in collaboration with SEGA.
Half A Year Later, Still Your Best JRPG of 2010?
It still definitely is. Has some sour spots (like the required fights against large mobs of low level enemies during story missions that ends up as a bore), but is for the most part a game with an incredibly unique combat system that's far more intuitive than an initial look would suggest.

" @trophyhunter said:You're honestly not missing out on much imo... Horrible story pacing, a new battlefield layout that makes capturing and holding camps a giant nuisance, and the same old broken mission ranking system means the second game retained the busted portions of the first and made some other parts worse." Valkyrie chronicles 2 replaced it for me "That's a solid choice, completely forgot it came out. Damn, I need to pick it up now. x.x "
I'm going to say yes, RoF is my favorite of 2010 and I haven't even played it yet. I want it THAT bad (and, let's face it, 2010 didn't offer much in the JRPG category either).

I'd say even better than the VC1 and VC1 is just about my favorite game ever.
I've played both. And I adored the first one." @Turambar said:

" JRPG of the year = Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. "I keep seeing this all over /v/, what is it?
so? just because something's not as complicated doesn't mean it's worse then something more complicated." @Laketown said:
" JRPG of the year = Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. "It's got a lot of charm (the dialogue on top of Obsidian Tower is epic), but let's not kid ourselves. The game mechanics are ultimately pretty shallow. "
and I got bored of RoF halfway through, so
@Noodlearms: it is half dungeon crawler, half economic sim. There's a demo on steam if you want to check it out.
Basically an RPG where you are the store owner and you have to manage your inventory, what you sell to people, how you display stuff, etc. Its certainly one of the most unique games this year." @Laketown said:

I think DQIX is probably my JRPG of the year. So deliciously good.

" @Laketown said:fair enough, but I forgot that strange journey was this year :P so recettear is the PC JRPG of the year, undoubtedly." @Turambar said:"Complicated" and "depth" rather different things. Other than Zephyr's voice getting so grating that I chose to mute the game at times, RoF is fantastic and definitely my top RPG this year.

" Nier "I dunno if you're being serious or not... "
I play games and rpgs especially because of the story, and Nier has a story worthy of a novel. Granted that it can be sometimes rough at spots, still it is the deepest, more imaginative and more engrossing i've played all year long.

I'll take Infinite Space for 1000, thanks.
" ...which version should I get? Both have the same game but Nier is younger in the JP and is with his sister, but in the NA he's a man with his daughter...they just swapped the script around but it ends the same way. "Depends... If you are looking for the game that follows more faithfully the vision of its developers - Cavia - then go with the Replicant. For accessibility and if the theme of the parent trying to save his little daughter choose Gestalt.
For me personally it is probably shin megami tensei: Strange Journey with Y's Seven coming in second. Resonance of Fate was just sort of.... boring for me. The combat system was ok but most of the fights required no strategy at all then you get a boss fight where making even one mistake equaled death. Sort of cheesy. This hasn't been a strong year for JRPG's in all honesty. Recettear is a fun little way to kill time though, it is unrealistic though. 30% mark up is normal? Where do you buy things? I worked retail in the past and 50% was fairly normal and higher was not unusual. 30% or less was only for things that were just plain expensive to begin with.
I think a better question though is what is the best RPG period so far of 2010? I am still leaning to ME2 myself despite all the doom and gloom it got for people calling that early.
