... well sorta.  Just noticed this post on the Atari forums asking for ideas for RCT4 (I know it's from August).  I'm sure it's still in very early development, if even if development at all.  But who else is pumped that this franchise is still alive?!

We are thinking hard about the next Rollercoaster Tycoon game on PC. We have a question for you, our loyal fanbase. How ready are you for the next Rollercoaster Tycoon? In the years since the last version, what are the key features you’ve dreamed about for the next release? What would make you rush out, buy it, and keep playing it? We’d like to know!

I played RCT a lot when I was younger. I have all of the games and expansions to date, but haven't played 3 much. I'd buy a new RCT game as long as they don't make the characters and scenery really cartoon-like. Other than that, all I'd really want is more scenery and rides.

Roller Coaster Tycoon was certainly a staple of my childhood, although I wasn't very good at it. A new one... really doesn't interest me.

This is the only way that I will have even a grain of interest in another sequel. And I think this is honestly the least likely scenario, even though it will be the most common feedback.

Somehow they got it in their mind during the development of 3 that a first-person view while riding virtual rides was thrilling or something, and the basic idea of owning & designing your own theme park (that made the first two so great) took a backseat. Seriously, vicarious thrills only work when you're doing something that is unattainable, but one can easily go to a theme park and experience something much more gratifying than what you see in RCT3.

Yeah, and that wasn't even an original idea, they just stole it from all the games that tried to be RCT.

I feel the most important feature for me would be the ability to make incomplete track designs, so I can then send park patrons to their screaming, horrible deaths.

Imagine if they took the graphical update that sc2 has and applied it to rct. :O Isometric but modern unf unf unf.

I, like many others, enjoyed the original immensely and had 1-3 but didn't play a lot of 3. I did like the ride cam in 3 however.

I played RCT when I was a kid, ALL THE TIME! Man it was so good. Those childhood memories, I think want to stay as those though. Not sure I could replicate that enjoyment in a new RCT now.

Make it isometric. (like most people are saying)
    Update the graphics.
Get rid of all those stupid themed roller coasters. All those things do is clutter up the roller coaster lists. They should put them in the area where you decide how many trains you want on the ride when you are done building it.
Make the scenery feel like it does something. I like to add scenery to my parks and give it a theme, but they never felt like they impacted the rides or park status.
Add some kind of online feature. They should do something like Minecraft. People can log on and build roller coasters on a public park. To make sure no one messes up other peoples' rides they should make it so it is password protected. So if someone else tries to click the edit button it would ask for a password. There could be a mod to delete any unwanted rides.

    Yeah...that is what I want.

RCT4 Online could be really cool. It could just always run in real-time, and someone would have to show up every now and then to manage it and build shit. Still, there would have to be a lot of changes from the classic RCT formula for this to work, but if that happened I would be all for it.

@mjk0104: Honestly, if it wasn't for the shitty social/microtransaction hooks they're shoving in there, I would be pretty excited about a mobile version of RCT.

@banefirelord: I was stoked when I first heard about it, as long as the UI was good it'd be great for a mobile game. But this looks like farmville with roller coasters slapped in.

It's good that mobile sequels are here to resurrect franchises in the worst and most unappealing way possible. What a way to keep that legacy alive: in the disappointed hearts of all the fans.

@random45: But that was a pretty simple detour of a franchise, as opposed to a long-awaited sequel and consequent return of a series. It's also really not the mobile part that's the element that taints the game, it's the nature of the mobile business model that it'll invariably be a part of (I could be wrong here, but we all saw what happened to Dungeon Keeper).

Apparently this type of revival is where all the dormant PC franchises about building things wind up, even Evil Genius was turned into a Facebook game.

It's interesting that I've seen multiple people complain that it's another money-grabbing EA mobile game when EA have absolutely nothing to do with it.
